Richfield HS Hockey Folded?

That is very interesting, it couldn't have been closed for more than three years. Kind of outrageous, but thank you for correcting me.TheMayor wrote:Edina closed open enrollment for a very short time, it is no longer closed. Many may not like it, but the school board likes the additional money they get from the state.green4 wrote:since Edina closed off open enrollment a few years back.
I think what OldCoach said about Richfield is probably what it comes down to, and I totally agree with him on how it is a great community, fantastic place to live.

I heard Como had just enough kids tryout to make a varsity team this year. If they have any injuries, or suspensions, they could be in jeopardy of forfeiting games. (Aren't they a co-op with Johnson?)
I also heard numbers are way down in Roseville. Seems like the first ring of suburbs are experiencing difficulties.

Edina is a first-ring suburb.BodyShots wrote:I heard Como had just enough kids tryout to make a varsity team this year. If they have any injuries, or suspensions, they could be in jeopardy of forfeiting games. (Aren't they a co-op with Johnson?)

Yes, not sure how wide-spread it is yet (e.g. not sure if their opponents are aware yet) but it is confirmed.Sats81 wrote:So it is confirmed?Eagles93 wrote:I'll just say a reliable "inside" source. It's interesting. On the Hockey Hub Richfield looks as if they cancelled all the games until Dec. 15th. They were supposed to play Minneapolis on Nov 28th but now Minneapolis plays Kennedy on that date. Could they somehow just be delaying the start of the season until they got it together? On the other hand I'm guessing that the rest of their games will drop off the Hub as their opponents reschedule games with new teams if it truly is official.
I was pleased when I heard there was a glimmer of hope. I have a soft spot for Richfield for several reasons. I was told this past Monday that Shute was going to put something on the ice somehow. Looking at the numbers and what they've got I can't imagine it would even be safe. There is a handful of good players but the overall numbers are so small it would be hard to imagine.

If/when more fall, it will have far more to do with cost and concussions than with demographics.imlisteningtothefnsong wrote:Very true, but we must not say the reason!!! I went to Richfield before I went to Hermantown. I used to dream about a Spartans/Hawks
State Championship game matchup back in high school. How torn apart I would had over who to root for. But now that match will never happen! ! So sad about Richfield's situation. Hopefully they can co-op or something!!
