Involved Parents

Post by puckhead63 »

I was talking to a coach/parent the other day when we started talking about how certain fathers seem to think they have just as much to do with their players advancement opportunities as the player himself does with his own skills.

I started to think about how many times a parent/s (usually fathers, but sometimes moms) that try to schmooze various coaches, scouts, etc... to better their players chances of making a team or advance to the next level. Better known as politicking

I have been on the receiving end of this a number of times and it is quite frustrating. Yes, I remember the player because of the parent/s schmoozing, but in many cases, it turns me off too so much more to the point that it could have caused more damage then good.

It is always easy to say "ignore it", but it is not always that easy to do.

I see a couple of players at the HS level that seem to show up every time Wayzata plays or Hill Murray plays during the week in hopes to get a chance to bend Don or Mike's ear.

Personally, that drives me crazy!

What do think about parents that schmooze someone to get their kid to the next level? Or do you know cases where the player did advance because of the parents.
