This game will come down to whether this ER Team can overcome the mental demons past teams have fallen victim to in 7AA Finals. On paper ER is a much stronger team. DE lacks a Trapp or Belieav type of D who can bail U out in yourr end when you get pinned on the forecheck...along with logging massively minutes throughout the game. BUT...Howg...and the overall team D has been very solid since Anoka & Blaine dropped 5 goals & 7 goals on them. They shut-out a solid Andover team and defeated a talented but inconsistent GR team in the playoffs, both good tests, while ER has blown out St Fran and Cloquet. Will not playing in a close semifinal actually hurt ER...having to wait 5 days to play in the Final? And the TV timeouts will help DE too, as they lack the depth of ER. If ER gets off to a fast start, they win. Going away. But if DE can keep this a 1 goal game going into the 3rd period...then past demons may re-appear for ER.alcloseshaver wrote:I may as well pipe in on this one although not big on predicting scores. ER has had a great season, Their best player returned for his senior year and passed up other opportunities to play his senior season with his buddies and is in the final 2 for Mr. Hockey. Kierstad has really stepped up his play since the last 10 minutes of the first East game and will need to limit the retaliation penalties he is so fond of. ER has lot's of secondary scoring and Lutz has 39 goals. Their at full strength on D and the Soph goalie has played well after a slow start. East has had an average season and Howg appears to have stolen the game from Rapids. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG? I would ride Jaremko to the win. Is the game on local TV? If so take advantage of the TV timeouts and get Asst. Coach Bruce a trip to the state tournament, he deserves to go ever since Necklacegate, ER/Armstrong. The roads should be good and the locals have no excuse to not get up to Amsoil and support the club. These players have played all over the country and in some cases the World, the rink or location should be of no advantage, just get it done.

I will interpret for you. "Elk River will no longer be in section 7AA starting next year. Will they go out with a win against Duluth East. I think not. The boys from the north will move on. It was nice knowing you "Elk River". Good luck in whatever section you end up inBayside Tigers wrote:I lol at a lot of you. lol
Listen, right. I have been paid a visit by the Hockey Gods, and though I cannot interpret their message in words any of you will understand, rest assured good things are on the horizon for everybody.

Unlike dizlutheastt218's, that's a very reasonable prediction. Maybe an empty net goal to seal it.mnhockey47 wrote:It's hard to pick Duluth East when their record barely being above .500. That being said, they have had a tough schedule and recently tied Elk River 1-1 and lost to Lakeville North just 2-1. But, Elk is the stronger team and I'm taking them for a 4-2 win over East.

And I (nor the other lesser deities and or demigods) take the time to 'visit' hockey dads, fans, groupies and other such imbeciles. If you would like, PM me and I will provide you with a smidgen of knowledge and intelligence.
It has worked wonders for Lee, Karl, northwoods oldtimer, and others.
HSHW and fastandcrash are still a work in progress.

As stated before, until last year East has had the best team in most years. The players are kids and who knows how they will respond?hockey59 wrote:This game will come down to whether this ER Team can overcome the mental demons past teams have fallen victim to in 7AA Finals. Um. ER won't be in 7AA next year. Again I'll say, ER will NOT be in 7AA next year. They ER won't will not wont be in 7AA next year. That's next year they ER won't will not be in 7AA next year. That's next hockey season they won't be in section 7 AAhockey59 wrote:And as I've stated previously...this ER team is really good...and if this ER team doesn't advance to State out of 7AA...I doubt any ER team ever will.
Thanks, kniven. That clears it up for me. I think you need a few more sentences to clear it up for others.kniven wrote:Um. ER won't be in 7AA next year. A few keys to the game:
1. Special teams. There was only one penalty called in the first meeting, and Elk River scored on it. As was the case on Saturday against Rapids, East needs to stay out of the box to have a chance, while at the same time throwing their weight around some, which they did very effectively in the regular season game. They need to strike that balance again.
2. Elk River's secondary scoring. In the first meeting, the Elks' offense pretty much ran through Jaremko. The 2nd and 3rd lines generated little to nothing. That surprised me, and if Murray, Zerban, or someone else can get them an even strength goal or two, they're in great shape. On a similar note, I disagree that TV timeouts help DE more than ER. If ER can double-shift Jaremko some, that's a huge advantage, and DE doesn't have anyone who can make as big of a difference. East is actually playing a deeper lineup than in recent years.
3. East's steadiness. In a surprising number of East's losses this year, they've actually played 2 pretty good periods, but the crap has hit the fan in one of the other ones, and that was enough to do them in. That happened again on Saturday, but Howg bailed them out. They need to get to the system in all 3 periods, because they can't depend on that happening again.
4. Of course, the mental side of things for Elk River.
