How are they not the 3 cede is the real question here. Because they lost an OT road game to East, they can only be a 4 cede? What a joke. The strength of schedule is a BIT weaker than GR and East but what else do you have? I don't buy the "East beat them so they are automatically ahead of them" argument. If Andover beat ER would they have to get the 1 cede? It makes no sense. Those supposed 2 and 3 cedes are .500 clubs.

As for the "what line are you on?" question, really? Nice attempt at discrediting a valid argument. I'm a 42 year old man ( who isn't the parent of a hockey player) who see's through the attempted rubber stamping of these storied hockey programs! Yes, GR and East have done well in the past, congratulations! How about ceding on what a team is this season! The records speak volumes about the various programs THIS year.
Give STMA 2 and put Rapids at 3. Then Rapids can "upset" STMA at AMSOIL by four.
The problem with this idea is that if you put STMA at 2 they'll get upset by Forest Lake in the quarterfinals.

You have no clue man. STMA I think is a good club, but SOS plays a huge part, I mean who wouldn't be 14-3 with that pathetic schedule. Losing to Monticello is inexcusable
That schedule though, it's just too weak
Sorry oh toughest SOS teams of all time.

This program has been a first round and done for years. Teams did not want to play STMA because the were no good, DE use to beat them by 10+, others wouldn't waste a game on them.

This group has changed all that, as they progressed through Squirts/PW/Bantams they actually played Edina, EP, Wayzata and were invited to play in their tourny's and fared rather well, holding their own. As Bantams in the first BAA state tourny, Prior Lake sure thought it would be a cake walk and got beat, DE was a close game and Wayzata won in 2OT's. They would have been an 8 seed in that :D.

That tourny there were 3 7AA teams, DE 2nd, STMA 4th and GR 6th.

It took time for other programs to change their mind set on the STMA program, lets not go all Luverne on them.

Now the HS program is in the same situation, the HS coaches now understand STMA is not a 10+ goal win anymore and each year the programs schedule gets progressively better. Conference wise what do you do, can't help that you HAVE to play St. Francis, CI, Princton & North Branch sometimes even twice.

STMA has been an emerging sports power for some time now. It was only a matter of time until their hockey team emerged on the scene. Elk River followed this path in the 80's and stepped up their youth hockey competition. Follow the growth outside the suburbs and that is where the kids are. Not a traditional power but a new one. Still not any more than a 4 seed in 7AA though, SOS and provincialism won't allow it.

Ok, now we're getting somewhere.

First, Mazak55, although Traxler may have gone a little over the top, I too was finding the "cede" in place of seed a bit distracting. But, no big deal. Just don't let it happen again.

Although I am sipping my Orange Crush right now, I will suggest that if GR stinks up their remaining 5 games, and if East defeats Elk River, then it would seem conceivable that East earns the #2 seed. Given that scenario, regardless of strength-of-schedule, I think STMA could make an argument for the #3 seed. I am pleased GR upped their SoS this year, since we heard that argument in past years. However, you actually have to beat a better team or two to earn the benefit of a tougher schedule.

However, if GR actually puts together a good showing over these final 5 games, I think they warrant the #2 seed. Then it is between East and STMA for the #3, at which point the head-to-head and SoS weigh-in.

It will be interesting to see how STMA does in section play-offs. That will be the place to settle the argument of who deserves what seed.

Oh yeah, Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids...

Grand Rapids with a huge win over Wayzata 1-0. Gunnar Harris scores with 1.9 seconds to win it! Huge victory for Rapids taking down the #7 team in the state on their rink. The Mattson, Harris, Miller line was dominant all night!

Now onto tomorrow night to see if they can match it. Was hoping that they would win but have to admit that I did not figure it would end up as a 1 to 0 shut out for them. This should get some swagger going for Rapids now.

I've been patient knowing all along Rapids could play like this. The only surprise for me has been how well Sam Gerth has been in goal for Rapids down the stretch. This has been a young team with loads of skill that had some growing pains. Seems the forwards are really buying into the defensive system. Also, the bad play by the D-men is LAST YEAR. Rapids rolled 6 defensemen tonight and obviously they played very well. The 5-1 win over East was not a fluke.

Big win for Rapids. Should be ahead of East in 7AA. Likely 2 seed.

GR caught Wayzata at a good time. Hard to comeback with a good performance after a big win last night against Tonka.

Don't hate them, just pointing out the situation. In fact, I think GR is peaking at the right time.

Congratulations, you're over .500 now! It's a good win. Not sure who the haters are. I just deal with facts. One game over .500 doesn't lock up a 2 seed.

Nice win for Rapids. Asserts the 2 seed as East got shut down by the Trojans. Still, to me, it's a 3 team race for State. Sorry STMA

Go ahead and look at how the section seedings have shaken out the last 10 years. HockeyDJ, as well as several others on this board know very well how it will go. Throw records out the window when coaches are voting. STMA will not be two. Probably won't be three.

You are right about the records. The on ice play really doesn't matter. I may be wrong, but a couple of years ago didn't GR lose to St Francis and some other 7aa teams and receive a fairly high ranking? It seems like GR is playing for the rankings, and others are playing to win the section?

I bleed orange and black Mazak but I have to agree...to a point. It is a nice win. One nice win. I wanna see some momentum going and the recent GR play could be a nice start. Either way you slice it, its fun for the Rapids fans to see some good play.

STMA would have a final regular season record of 4-21 if they played Rapids schedule.
