STMA to the section7AA finals?
Is anyone going as far as predicting the "little guy" rising up and challenging ER for the section birth yet?

No, final will be elk River and rapids.Mazak55 wrote:Is anyone going as far as predicting the "little guy" rising up and challenging ER for the section birth yet?
It should be a good game.
Rapids are 1-4-1 against A teams. We all know there are some excellent A teams every season but that record isn't from locking horns with the top tier A squads. You're more than entitled to think that they will be there against ER on pedigree alone but that's it. Yes, they've been tested by some powerhouse AA squads but they are by no means gliding to the section final. They are a .500 club with a lot of inconsistency.

Monticello loss was horrible.
East Ridge loss was uninspired.
Duluth East was a road, OT loss. Woulda, coulda, shoulda...they lost.
Given those well thought out inquiries, what about:
Warroad 3-2
Duluth Marshall 4-2
Cloquet 4-2
Mahtomedi 5-3
Hermantown 10 -2
Hibbing 3-3.
To argue a GR vs ER section final as a formality is amusing.

Mazak55 it would seem you are suggesting STMA going to the section finals. I guess that is as fair a speculation as any.
The one thing certain about Grand Rapids is they are utterly unpredictable...other than being unpredictable.
Until someone actually beats them in the sections, I am going with Duluth East...or Grand Rapids...or STMA...or CEC...or Andover...or Forest Lake... or St. Fr---no that isn't happening.

For what it's worth, their goalie is a sophomore and only their 1st and 3rd leading scorers of the 8 with double digits points right now are seniors. They have allowed 4 goals twice this season and one of them came in a win. The future is looking bright for this team and seeing the win over Andover and close game with East, I wouldn't count them out this year, although it's not a prediction I'd make.alcloseshaver wrote:I Like the fact that the Knights are relevant in 7AA. With Andover and Flake having down years it brings some intrigue to the section. Would be fun to see an ER V STMA regular season matchup next year. They play in almost all other sports and our neighboring school districts.

As parent of an STMA player I want to say to Mazak55...... R.E.L.A.X.
Remember as far as HS hockey, our program has to PROVE that they can play with the teams with winning histories.
This group of kids has been very successful in getting the STMA name out there, just let their play speak for itself.
Elliot as far as The losses, Monti was a game where STMA didn't finish and let a bad team hang around and I'm sure you've been on that end before. East Ridge the out of position ref missed a puck go in the net to tie, even though both teams stopped playing and kept it out of OT. DE is that really a bad road loss for early in the season?

Rapids will not be in the section finals. Take that to the bank. They are far too young and undisciplined. Plus, that coach.... Terrible formula for playoff games.
Cloquet, Mike Randolph, STMA, and Elk River will be section contenders with ER the slight favorite. I can't say they are too big of favorites with East dominating the section like it has the past five years. East can't bank on history repeating itself, but then again history does repeat itself...
I can't take ER very seriously until I see them get to the X. To be the best you have to beat the best.
Back to STMA, I think there is a very real chance they end up in the final. Definitely would root for them if they end up there. Unless of course East is there with them..
Those are my random biased thoughts.

Enough with the coach angle. Please. It isn't the coaching.Slammer wrote:Rapids will not be in the section finals. Take that to the bank. They are far too young and undisciplined. Plus, that coach.... Terrible formula for playoff games.

While STMA may have a good quarterfinal game and upset someone, I don't see them with two consecutive upsets. The finals are most likely going to be ER vs the GR-DE winner.
If STMA makes it to the semis then the final will be ER vs. whoever beats STMA. Unless STMA plays ER in the semis (very possible) then the finals will be ER vs. DE-GR winner.
