Do some research before you open your mouth again. St Paul Academy's McCabe had 8 POINTS in one game an 11-0 trashing of Chisago Lakes. And he put 3 of those points up in the THIRD PERIOD!!! Where were you to scold them for RUNNING IT UP. Or its ok for them to do that ?? Or Do you eben have a logic behind your comments or I am guessing you will say McCabe is no good either then by your logic??

Don't be so sure about one committing before the other, both are fine young players but Olsen is getting some big time exposure. If this kid keeps growing to close to his fathers size (played at CC) his stock will sky rocket. I do know that the U has been down to watch him already.

Sorry Scout. The chum line of 3A must not be keeping you fed if you need to take a bite out of me. I will take the Mr Sportsmanship idea as a compliment coming from you although not sure you know what that means. I expect players to show some class, don't know why that offends you. With regard to McCabe I am lost? Never mentioned him. Ever. Maybe YOU should read the whole conversation? I commented on looking at percent as a way to compare impact for OLSEN. I am sure you will not 'eben' understand. I will try to..... type...... slower...s.o. you ..... ca..n ....follow. Get a GLUE stick from the dead horse you keep beating and use it to try to keep a coherent stream of thoughts in your posts.

For games through Monday, eh?

Luverne knocked off Willmar 7-3 in Willmar on Satuday with Jaxon Nelson scoring 2 goals and Nick Harder with a goal and 3 assists. So, Luverne -a small school in the SW- beats a larger school in the West Central. What a concept. They play a team that is on their schedule! Amazing. Bring on the Blackhawks!!

Jack Olsen scored 2 goals and assisted on 1 as Lakeville South beat Burnsville 6-1. The Lakeville schools used to get laughed at, but not anymore. They are more competitive these days.

(Games Played) G - A (% Involvement in Team Goals)

20 Points
Jack Olsen, Lakeville South (13) 9-11 (45%)
62 Points
Jaxon Nelson, Luverne (17) 31-31 (43%)
34 Points
Nick Harder, Luverne (17) 16-18 (24%)
29 Points
Kasyn Kruse, Luverne (17) 14-15 (20%)
25 Points
Devlin McCabe, St. Paul Academy (12) 6-19 (42%)
19 Points
Chad Nordean, North Shore (12) 13-6 (30%)
Jamie Warrick, Simley (16) 3-16 (31%)
18 Points
Jonah Bergstrom, PineCity/RushCity (15) 4-14 (28%)

.... Hey, Whiner33, how do you like my Metro math?

All right! Discussion time.

I have done a freshmen scoring thread for several years now, and don't really care how it turns out. In any sport, it is a BIG deal to be a varsity starter as a freshman. However, that doesn't mean that the best freshmen are playing varsity. Some of the best freshmen are still playing bantam because their high school squad is loaded with great seniors, juniors, and sophomores.

I still remember some names from the past. Travis Boyd played varsity as both an 8th and 9th grader at Hopkins. Look where he's at now. Hudson Fasching played varsity as a 9th grader at Apple Valley. But, Kyle Rao didn't play varsity until his 10th grade year because Eden Prairie was loaded during his frosh year.

Of course, it is easier for a 9th grader to make varsity in the outlying, rural areas. Kittson County Central, Red Lake Falls, Ely, Bagley-Fosston, etc. almost always have a slew of freshmen playing varsity. But when have any of these teams gone to state?

I don't live in or near Luverne. But you have to admit that Luverne is an outlier. They are producing good teams now, using youngsters, and doing well in the region of the state where they are located. Don't blame them.

They are smaller than their neighbors (Marshall, Worthington), but regularly beat up on them. You have to believe that the Luverne hockey program is trying to get better competition, and they have to travel LONG distances to do so.

Come on and give them credit for upgrading ice hockey in the SW. Let's hope the other schools down there do likewise.

Their coach sucks.

Their players dont work as hard as metro kids.

Their schedule is nothing but blind kids.

Who the #)($#) is Chaz Smedsrud?

They have Manure on their skates.

They lost once in a section Semi final at the GAC.

They arent in the cities.

Lord Owns them.

None of them will ever commit to a D1 College.

Lets clear up McCabe since I am an SPA fan (2 points for admitting bias) I was at the game, and McCabe had an amazing explosive night. Take a look at Chisago's schedule scout. Spa is their biggest loss by a respectable margin, 5 goals more than the next largest win by a team who is right now #4 in state (6-0 Mahtomedi). It may not be very visible looking at the score but McCabe deserved every goal he put up and every assist as well. In short, beating Chisago 11-0 was a much different game than illustrated.

Where's all the hate coming from anyway?? :-k

Olsen, McCabe and Nelson are all very good all will play D1 and are very talented. None work harder for points and each should be commended for having fine freshman years instead of always looking at ways to tear the kids down.

Agree. They are all great players. Never said they weren't. Your just digging now. Time to sack up and quit whinning33 about something that was never said. Scout get to bed earlier so you can think and read more clearly. Good luck the rest of the way!

Fortunately my son (future accountant ... not hockey player), has had the opportunity to share the ice with both McCabe and Nelson.

Both Phenoms ... different games. Nelson seems to be at his best when everyone is relying on him for points. McCabe, more so the opposite, incredible vision.

It will be fun watching both of these boys grow into men in the next few years.

I just wish Jax didn't play for an unknown in Luverne (had to take a shot).
Sorry, fresh out, Don't Really Give Any.

I was at the Mpls/SPA game and McCabe was very impressive. He did not play like a freshman. He also played well as an 8th grader on varsity last season.

Minneapolis also has a freshman, Jake Erickson, that hasn't been mentioned and has put up some respectable numbers.

I would like to know more about jack Olson. Don't know really anything about him except what I've seen on here and looking on the hub. Is he on the LS first line? I'm assuming he is. Looks like he is on their PP too? PK? Is he playing with a committed D1 player(swaney)? Looks like 3 players do most of the scoring. Does jack get shadowed on a nightly basis in their offensive zone? How big is jack? I noticed he has no penalty minutes, is he really smart or soft?

28 points as a freshman in the SSC. Pretty impressive if you ask me, but I realize the competition in South West Mn. is really stiff this year. So stiff it's hard to believe 3 players from Luverne make the list, and top 10! They must be incredible. Did they play on Hockey Day Minnesota? Its to bad you clowns make it easy to root against your boys!
