Roster for MN Seniors NIT now up; still waiting for HP-18 team to be posted. Is this list decided by scouts or coaches, anyone know?

I know they've allowed college committed seniors in the Great 8 for a while now, but I thought they only picked uncommitted players for the NIT. Josh French proved me incorrect. I wouldn't fault a kid for wanting to play in front of NHL scouts, but I guess I'd have preferred to see an uncommitted player fill that roster spot.

Agreed about letting others in the tournament.
That was the (unofficial) rule for the team they picked when they used to play in the Chicago tournament. They've taken kids with commitments ever since they started doing this NIT thing. The Exiled One wrote:I know they've allowed college committed seniors in the Great 8 for a while now, but I thought they only picked uncommitted players for the NIT. As with the great 8, there is at least one name on this list (Borgen), who didn't play all three games from what I hear (injured early in the second game).

Re: 18s
To link this with another active thread...these kids are 96's, right? Aged out of U17, but not graduating seniors...a lot of them will be 18 this fall when they start their senior year of high school. So, if they're 18, are they mature enough to handle venturing out to play junior hockey (according to Russo), or do they still need to gain the benefits of playing their senior year for Russo and/or their hometown high school (according to Russo)?Tenoverpar wrote:CCM NIT 18's

HP 18 roster

Where's Jack?
Where were the Poehlings?
On Friday Jack and Nick picked up where they left off in the state championship game; hacking, taking cheap shots and drawing penalties and limiting their effectiveness.
The Saturday game the Poehlings missed
Sunday - I think they picked up a point between them.
Better question: Where's are the players that shined in the games? Lutz, Foley, Giller, Welch? Brodzinski? The Edina team lost all games? Yet all 3 Edina forwards and Roo made it to the CCM NIT phase?
Even Better Question: Where are the stats that were once on the Hockey Hub? Why were they removed? A kid like Mishmash, Roo or Dingmann - maybe got a point all weekend.
To tie in another post, maybe kids would stay in HS hockey if things like HP tourney were run legitimately and kids were chosen on their effort/results.

Re: HP 18 roster
You can safely blame the lack of hub stats on nothing more nefarious than the same lack of budget/scaled back scope that severely hampered the hub during the high school season. Besides, from your comments you're probably already in the camp that believes that players are chosen irrespective of how they actually played that weekend. While having stats to support an argument over which kid got slighted or which got a pass might make that argument stronger (or make you feel better), the end result is the same...they pick who they want to pick. Of course, they're far less discriminating when it comes to accepting tryout fees from anyone and everyone with a (seemingly futile) dream and/or a belief that their performance actually is relevant.Bob Anderson wrote:Tenoverpar wrote:

Doesn't appear to be much difference these days, between these programs and the Advanced stuff, in terms of politics, etc.almostashappy wrote:You can safely blame the lack of hub stats on nothing more nefarious than the same lack of budget/scaled back scope that severely hampered the hub during the high school season. Does anyone know which kids declined participation at the beginning of the tournament?
They are asked if they can play. And those that cannot/ do not wish to are not even evaluated.
Has anyone on here seen the evaluation form that is used to critique the players?
The spreadsheet used to determine which players within the bubble group should be asked?
Has anyone ever participated in the process?
Or are we all a bunch of whiners because our friends second cousin did not get asked?

When kids that aren't even at an event, the entire weekend (and with the Advanced stuff, sometimes not at all....) get picked.........if you want to call that whining, sign me up.
And that's just for starters.
But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see something that doesn't pass the smell test.
p.s. none of my friends have second cousins

Kid got invited to Phase 1...by email and follow-up phone call from coordinator. Declined because of spring sports conflicts and a sour attitude after going through the HP16s sideshow two years previous.elliott70 wrote:Does anyone know which kids declined participation at the beginning of the tournament?
