A Quarterfinal: Chisago Lakes vs. #3 New Prague
CHISAGO LAKES VS. #3 NEW PRAGUE
-This isn’t a game that features any big names, but it is a Class A purist’s dream, featuring two small towns with little history of hockey success.
Chisago Lakes (20-8, unranked, 1-seed in 5A)
State appearances: 2 (first since 1995)
Key section win: 5-4 over 2-seed Princeton
-New Prague is a favorable draw for the Wildcats, who came out of a depleted Section 5A. Brandon Gillespie (14), Trevor Lushanko (7), and Blake Lizotte (28) form a productive top line, and while their depth isn’t great, they aren’t the thinnest team in the field, either. Goaltender Jake Dubose (31) has good numbers. They played reasonably well against some mid-level AA teams, so they shouldn’t be blown out, but it’s hard to identify an obvious strength they might ride to an upset.
New Prague (21-4-3, #6, 1-seed in 1A)
First State appearance
Key section win: 3-2 over #7 Mankato West
-The Trojans put together their strongest season in school history this year, and while they lacked the star power of fellow 1A frontrunner Mankato West, they’re into their first Tourney with a gritty, grinding squad that managed to nab the 3-seed. Augie Isaacson (26), Seth Kriha (24), Alex Grigor (10), and Austin Kilian (18) lead the attack. Goaltender Conner Wagner (1) will be key to their hopes, especially if they wind up with a semifinal against Hermantown. They have decent depth and a strong power play, though the penalty kill has been a concern, and they’re going to need to lock down to handle some of the tougher offenses in this field.

outshot, yes... outplayed, no..... and possibly becasue they seeded based on the whole body of work, not just one game. Only one loss by more than a goal, all four losses to section finalists (Farmington, Cathedral, Hermantown and Eagan) I was surprised they got the three seed over Cathedral, but felt sure they would be no lower than four.
New Prague vs. Chisago
New Prague too big and too strong and too deep
New Prague - 4
Chisago Lakes - 1
New Prague - 4
Chisago Lakes - 1

If you were at the game you would know they weren't outplayed at all. They took that 3-0 lead and played clamp down defense for the rest of the majority of the game. Most of Mankato's shots came from wide angles, tho they did have some nice chances that Wagner stonewalled them on. NP missed a early wide open net and a breakaway or they could of been up 5-0 by the second period. MW had a missed opportunity wide open net to tie with about 30 sec left in game.HockeyStorm wrote:How does a team that gets outplayed that bad in the section final get the 3 seed???

New Ulm?SouthernMinnFan wrote:New Prague's back pressure is what won them the section final game. They take away time and space well and force teams to move up the ice quicker than they would like and dump pucks as opposed to carrying it in the zone. I like New Ulm barring too many penalties given up. 4-2

What is a Green Wave anyway?
New Prague has had great coaching with Chris Lonke. As for on ice talent, in the section final, NP goalie Wagner was beyond stellar - as Lonke said afterwards, talking about NP making it to state, "without Wagner, we aren't having this conversation". Anything like that level of performance in nets by Wagner today, and I don't see how Chisago Lakes can get a win.
Best guess:
NP 3
Chisago Lakes 1
Best guess:
NP 3
Chisago Lakes 1

That was the most blatant kick I have ever seen. How does the ref standing right there not see it? How do the officials award the goal to someone who never touches it? The CL players all knew who "scored" when they rushed to him. Nobody else can figure it out?ER17 wrote:Nice kick in on the goal, announcers didnt even mention it after 4 or 5 replays.
