CLASS A STATE TOURNAMENT SEEDING
With 7 of the slots accounted for, what does everyone think the seeds will play out like?
I think a lot still depends on who ends up winning the TG-Mahtomedi game tonight.
If TG wins, I see it like this:
#1 EGF
#2 Hermantown
#3 Cathedral
#4 TG
#5 NP
If Mahtomedi wins, I see it like this:
#1 EGF
#2 Hermantown
#3 Cathedral
#4 NP
#5 Luverne
What do you think?

Toss all 8 in a bucket and pick pairs at random.Marty wrote:Regarding the bottom half seeds >>> Spots 5 and 6 would where you may want to be if you want the best chance of reach the semis.
Seedings are a nice "Carrot" to work for throughout the season to get a good Playoff spot, but in my opinion, STATE should be an clean slate and random draw for ALL 8.

I strongly disagree with this comment, do you really want an EGF and hermantown quarter final? no
You want the two best teams to have the chance to play eachother in the biggest possible game.
Thats like saying you want the Miami heat and Indiana pacers to play in the first round and walk through the rest of playoffs rather than playing in the eastern conference finals, that's absurd.
un bias opinions on 3A

So you would want to see EGF and Hermantown play in the quarters? The seedings are what gives us the best chance for the best 2 teams to play for the state championship.fastncrash wrote:Toss all 8 in a bucket and pick pairs at random.Marty wrote:Regarding the bottom half seeds >>> Spots 5 and 6 would where you may want to be if you want the best chance of reach the semis.

All in personal perception I guess. What I think is absurd is "Stacking" a system that helps to dictate the outcome...alumni52 wrote:fastncrash wrote:Toss all 8 in a bucket and pick pairs at random.Marty wrote:Regarding the bottom half seeds >>> Spots 5 and 6 would where you may want to be if you want the best chance of reach the semis.

I'm NOT against seeding for Playoff's, just think a random draw for the State Level would make it more interesting and WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY less Political.
Not as absurd as discussing the NBA in a hockey forum.alumni52 wrote:I strongly disagree with this comment, do you really want an EGF and hermantown quarter final? no

Sorry, I see no good reason for the continued existence of the NBA.

Give me an example of the last time the #1 and #2 regular season ranked teams in the NHL played for the Cup...?hshockeyfan53 wrote:So you would want to see EGF and Hermantown play in the quarters? I have a hard to believing Luverne will not get the #4 at the lowest no matter what happens tonight. IMO I would find it hard to believe that a team that is 27-0-1 no matter who you play would not be a top 4 seed. Yes I agree they do not play the toughest schedule however it is hard to not lose a game for an entire season.

Respectfully speaking, this point is invalid because the NHL doesn't seed their teams off of a voting system. They go strictly off of points. If we went off of only the record in high school hockey then Luverne would be the #1 seed. You can't really compare the two.fastncrash wrote:hshockeyfan53 wrote:So you would want to see EGF and Hermantown play in the quarters? The question is will the coaches see it the same way? I think Luverne can hang with any team at state this year, except for maybe EGF and Hermantown. But we'll see next week!Bleed Maroon and Gold wrote:I have a hard to believing Luverne will not get the #4 at the lowest no matter what happens tonight. And before you use the LA Kings example from 2 years ago when they were the #8 seed and won the Cup, the 8 seed in the NHL and the 8 seed in Class A high school hockey are so much different I don't even know how to explain it. In the NHL, the best 8 teams make it. In high school hockey, the best 8 teams in the state do not make the state tourney.hshockeyfan53 wrote:Respectfully speaking, this point is invalid because the NHL doesn't seed their teams off of a voting system. Cathedral beat New Prague and Totino Grace this year. They should get the 3 seed. It will be tough for Luverne to crack the top 5 even with a zero loss season (given their two biggest games were a win versus Kennedy and a tie vs St. Micheal Albertville).pekyman wrote:I see it like this.
If TG wins, then put them at 4 seed.
SEED LPH RANK
1........1......... EGF
2........2..........HERM
3........6..........NP
4........8..........MAHTOMEDI
5........12........ORONO

As others have said, I don't see how you don't give Luverne at least a 4 seed. It doesn't matter who you're playing, if you go 27-0-1, you should get a seed, because that's impressive.
Draw up your own seedings and put them where you think they belong! :)
1 Hermantown
2 EGF
3 NP
4 Luverne
5 TG/Maht
6 Orono
7 SCC

Who you play matters
1 Hermantown
2 EGF
3 SCC
4 NP
5 TG/Maht
6 Orono
7 Luverne
8 Chisago
Hard to not see SCC at 3.
They beat NP, TG, and tied Orono.
NP beat a team with 25 wins twice this year.
