Sure everyone has taken a deep breath in GR,ER, and Andover after the quarters. Esse knew what he was doing in lining himself up to play ER, unfortunate penalty in OT. As expected Shepard is the wild card up in Rapids. Andover probably didn't see STMA coming? Good to be playing hockey and not bitching about East practicing at Amsoil. What type of crowd numbers do we expect Sat. For the semis? Will people stay for the second NW Sub. Conference game?
To put it frankly, nobody really cares about Elk River or Andover. So only reason people will stay is to see who they have to play Thursday... We just want a northern team representing at state.alcloseshaver wrote:Sure everyone has taken a deep breath in GR,ER, and Andover after the quarters. DE could've "easily" won state the last 5 years.

Really? He's not in the Top Ten, even. He does know how to rile you guys up, though. Not that this is difficult.My_Kid_Loves_Hockey wrote:Don't know that I have really ever seen 1 person that can be such a DB and make everyone that is not a DE fan root against them.......keep up the good work.![]()

I will stay and watch Elk River and Andover play. Not often get a chance to see these two section rival games. Anxious to see both teams play. Elk River and Andover are very good programs and as much deserving of a state trip as any 7AA team that was in the hunt and still are in the hunt for a section title.Slammer wrote:To put it frankly, nobody really cares about Elk River or Andover. DJ can have this effect also. But unlike DJ, sometimes I feel as though Slammer is stirring the pot just for fun. Jury's out for me...My_Kid_Loves_Hockey wrote:Don't know that I have really ever seen 1 person that can be such a DB and make everyone that is not a DE fan root against them.......keep up the good work.![]()

I'll stick around, too. Slammer, who is this "nobody" you speak of?northwoods oldtimer wrote:I will stay and watch Elk River and Andover play. Okay, I know it's not "nobody"...... I just really hope that a northern team wins this section. Whether that be Rapids or East it doesn't matter....east hockey wrote:I'll stick around, too. It's not Andover or Elk Rivers fault for being put in 7AA, and I'll be sticking around to watch the game too just because it will be a good one, but I just wouldn't be able to stand it if a metro team went to state from 7AA.
Apologies to ER and Andover, they do have great programs and just because they got forced to play in a certain section doesn't mean they don't deserve it.
Any more details on the Andover game? Have they dropped off some? Or did STMA play well? STMA does have some players to build on in the future and may be in the mix soon.
I think it was a combination of both. STMA played well especially defensivly which limited Andovers chances. Ryan Olson didn't look like he came to play. Gave up lots of bad rebounds and got lucky some shots hit him especially in the third. If he playes like that against Elk River, the Elks are going to have a hay day.
On STMA, yes they have a very bright future. Lots of sophomores that can play. A very solid freshman goaltender who also played well last night. Wouldn't be suprised to see them in the mix as soon as next year.

Good to hear, STMA is a very good sports school with lot's of kids participating and young families. Another school to try and challenge the old guard. Not sure they will stay in 7AA though in the next reclassification.Thehockeyman28 wrote:I think it was a combination of both. STMA played well especially defensivly which limited Andovers chances. At the mercy of the MSHSL. If they do you might end up with Centennial or Blaine. New teams to torment. These 2 would be closer to Amsoil to schedule practices though.Slammer wrote:Do you think elk river will be moved next reclassification?alcloseshaver wrote:Good to hear, STMA is a very good sports school with lot's of kids participating and young families. I'll stay for the late game too. It'll be a good match-up, even if the atmosphere isn't great. Expect a decent number of fans of the winner of the first game to stick around.alcloseshaver wrote:Sure everyone has taken a deep breath in GR,ER, and Andover after the quarters. Esse did indeed have a plan with his interesting seeding vote. When his teams run that trap well, they are very tough to crack, no matter their talent level. I don't think they'll be a front-line contender next season, but with another year of experience, they are going to be trouble for someone come sections. Makes me feel a little better about East's loss to the Jacks.
STMA definitely will be on the rise next year; when they played East, I could tell they had some young talent and were a step above the normal 7AA bottom-feeders. I thought Andover would have a somewhat easier time, but I'm not shocked that STMA gave them a good run. They'll at least be in the conversation for the top 4 next season.
East wasn't quite as crisp as they were last week over the first half of the St. Franny game, but they had a lot more margin for error than the other teams, and they clicked into gear as the game went along.
It's the playoffs, though. Lower seeds are going to give everything they have. I wouldn't read too much into any tighter-than-expected results.
Are the semifinal games going to be streamed anywhere? I checked www.ifan.tv among other places and didn't see them. I'm hoping I just haven't looked in the right spot yet.

Just wanted to share a few words that the GR facebook page received from the Forest Lake goalie's father:
We received this note from the dad of the Forest Lake goalie:
"My son is the Forest Lake goalie, Jesse Garcia. Last nights game was a great battle which one team would walk away on the short side.
I just wanted to thank the City of Grand Rapids for always being a gracious host during our hockey visits.
Best of luck against DE."
His son also had some good words about the arena and wishing them luck.
I thought these were very admirable and commendable actions given the magnitude and intensity of the game, tough thing to say to your opponent after a loss that ends your season. Very classy move.
