Final from the Centennial Tourney:

Dodge County 0, Wayzata 6

Although just about everyone (28 of 31) predicted a Trojan victory, nobody thought they’d win by 6, in a shutout no less.

So with just one game (Elk River/Centennial) out of twelve still not reported as final, here is our Leaderboard:

1. Silent But Deadly – 11 points (9 of 11 winners + 2 bonus points)

2. wolfman – 10 (9 of 11 + 1)
36Guy – 10 (9 of 11 + 1)
clutterbucket – 10 (9 of 11 + 1)

It's still not closed out as "Final" on the Hub, and they haven't even started entering the score on the MGHCA site. But the Strib paper edition is showing it as 3-1 ER/Z, so I guess that makes it official!

Elk River/Zimmerman 3, Centennial 1

A bit of an upset as our panel was split 19-12 in favor of Centennial. The only person to get the score right was RailingWizardofOZ, which enabled him to move into a tie for 4th Place.

Here is the updated Leaderboard, heading into today's semi's:

1. Silent But Deadly – 12 points (10 of 12 winners + 2 bonus points)

2. wolfman – 11 (10 of 12 + 1)

Walser’s Big Breakaway

Stillwater 2, Hopkins 5

20 picked Hopkins to get to the Championship game from the Upper Bracket, while 9 had Lakeville South and 2 voted for Stillwater.

2013 Centennial Holiday Hockey Classic

More semifinal scores:

2013 Eagles Mid-Winter Meltdown

Lower Bracket Semifinal
Minnetonka 0, Eden Prairie 1

No. 12AA ranked and home team Eden Prairie knocks No. 1AA Minnetonka from the unbeaten ranks in the second semifinal of the Eagles Meltdown. In so doing they surprised most (23 of 31) of our prognosticators, so this was a big win for the other eight, all of whom picked the Eagles to advance. Should be a great match-up against Benilde, who earlier stormed past Chaska/Chanhassen 7-1.

Walser’s Big Breakaway

Lower Bracket Semifinal
Irondale 4, Warroad 1

Only three picked Irondale to get to the Championship game. Those three were Knight7 (no surprise there!), mrleft and hockeybozo. So they pick up 2 points on everyone else. The vast majority (27) picked Edina to emerge out of this bracket, while one had Warroad. Irondale will meet Hopkins in tomorrow’s Championship game. That should be a great final as well.

The final score in the lower bracket semi of the Centennial tourney is still not posted, but according to the MGHCA site White Bear Lake has a 4-2 lead in the 3rd period.

I hope to post this final and the updated standings soon!

Final semifinal score this evening:

2013 Centennial Holiday Hockey Classic

Lower Bracket Semifinal
White Bear Lake 5, Elk River/Zimmerman 2

In terms of teams advancing to the Championship Game of any of the three contest tournaments currently underway, White Bear Lake is definitely the biggest surprise. No disrespect to the Bears, because they are playing great hockey right now, but NOBODY out of 31 participating in this contest picked them to get there…a big congrats to the Bears for defying the odds and best of luck in your Championship game against Wayzata tomorrow!

An updated Leaderboard will be posted shortly…

One of our top veteran prognosticators, Silent But Deadly, - a guy who has many "Big Games" wins to his credit over the years - manages to hang on to a tie for 1st Place with relative upstart u12dad, who had a very good day jumping 8 points from his opening day total. RailingWizardofOZ also had a great day, jumping 8 points into a tie for 2nd Place.

It should be an interesting battle going forward, especially with the 3 points at stake in each of the Championship games tomorrow. Then a short break until the Kaposia Invitational gets underway on Monday.

1. Silent But Deadly – 18 points
u12dad – 18

3. wolfman – 17

Our first of three championship games this evening is now in the books:

Walser's Big Breakaway

Championship
Irondale 4, Hopkins 5

Jilliane DeYoung's goal with only 18 seconds remaining lifted the 3rd ranked Hopkins Royals to a 5-4 win over the No. 13AA Irondale Knights in the Championship Game of the Walser's Big Breakaway tournament in Edina. Irondale scored four of the first six goals to go up 4-2 in the second period, but Hopkins scored the last three goals of the game, including DeYoung's late winner. Samantha Donovan scored two goals and Alex Toupal had a goal and two assists for the Knights. For Hopkins Stella Haberman scored twice, Rachael St. Clair had a goal and two assists, and Corbin Boyd added a goal and an assist. For the game Irondale had a big edge in shots on goal, 45 to 27.

In our contest 8 prognosticators had Hopkins going all the way to claim the championship trophy, and they pick up three points each.

Our second championship game is now a final:

2013 Eagles Mid-Winter Meltdown

Championship

Benilde-St. Margaret's 3, Eden Prairie 2

Kaylee Druk scored what proved to be the winning goal at 2:10 of the 3rd Period for the Red Knights in the championship game of the 2013 Eagles Mid-Winter Meltdown. Also scoring for BSM was Ali Praus, who had a hat trick in yesterday's semifinal win over Chaska/Chanhassen, and team scoring leader Kelly Pannek. Praus and Pannek each also added an assist, while Caitlin Reilly contributed two assists. Angie Heppelmann opened the scoring early in the first period for the Eagles, and Josie Olson scored late in the 3rd Period to close the gap to one, but the Eagles could not get the equalizer. Shots on goal for the game were close, slightly favoring Eden Prairie 24-20.

13 of 31 picked BSM to win the championship as tournament favorite Minnetonka (16 votes) lost in the semi to tournament host Eden Prairie, which drew 2 votes.

And our third and final tournament champion today has been decided:

2013 Centennial Holiday Hockey Classic

Championship
Wayzata 4, White Bear Lake 1

After a scoreless first period Carly Noble got Wayzata on the board, scoring a power play goal early in the 2nd period. White Bear Lake's Peyton King tied it up in the middle of the second frame, but that was the only goal Wayzata's Sarah Stelter would give up, as she ended with 10 saves on 11 shots. The Trojan's Abby Croal scored what proved to be the game winning goal with about a minute left in the 2nd, and goals by Sophia Shaver and Kaitlyn Klein in the 3rd period cemented the victory and tournament championship for Wayzata. Congratulations must also go to the White Bear Lake Bears for getting to the championship game, something that not one of our 31 "experts" () thought they would accomplish!

Here's our Leaderboard after three tournaments. The next series of games will happen on Monday, when South St. Paul's Kaposia Classic gets underway at Wakota Arena.

1. u12dad – 27 points

2. MIYY4U – 25

The first score from today's 2:00pm game is now posted as a final:

19th Annual Kaposia Classic Invitational
December 30 – January 1 @Wakota Arena

Upper Bracket Quarterfinal
Hill-Murray 4, Lakeville North 2

Not a surprise to the 22 prognosticators who thought the Pioneers would win, but unfortunately I was among the other nine who picked the Panthers. There were three who got the score right: fishfreak11, hockeyfan87 and Hockeydad805. Our leader u12dad gained a point on our 2nd place holder MIYY4U, who slips into a tie with Silent But Deadly, both now 3 behind with 25 points.

From minn-scores.net, a final unless it proves to be wrong:

19th Annual Kaposia Classic Invitational
December 30 – January 1 @Wakota Arena

Upper Bracket Quarterfinal
Roseville 4, Mounds View 5

Just like the Hill-Murray/Lakeville North game, 22 of 31 picked the winner of this quarterfinal game, and this time (for a change) I was in the majority! :) It was a higher-than-expected scoring affair, so there were no correct scores. In fact only one - Hockeydad805 - came close to getting it right, having predicted 5-3 Mustangs.

In our scoring race u12dad maintains his 3 point lead over Silent But Deadly and MIYY4U, while Hockeydad805 is just a point back of them, in 4th.

Again, from minn-scores.net, subject to correction if wrong:

19th Annual Kaposia Classic Invitational
December 30 – January 1 @Wakota Arena

Lower Bracket Quarterfinal
Blake 5, Bloomington Jefferson/Kennedy 2

This one was a pretty big upset, at least according to the two-thirds (20 of 31) who picked the Jaguars to win. And of the 11 who predicted the Bears would prevail, nobody thought they would score five goals against the Bears' normally stingy defense.

I'll post a full leaderboard update when tonight's finale is official.

Final quarterfinal score from Kaposia:

19th Annual Kaposia Classic Invitational
December 30 – January 1 @Wakota Arena

Lower Bracket Quarterfinal
Hibbing/Chisholm 1, South St. Paul 3

Tournament host and No. 6A ranked South St. Paul's win over No. 10A Hibbing/Chisholm was widely expected by a margin of 28-3, and in fact the 3-1 score matched the average as predicted by the group (3.35-1.39), so "CW" gets 2 points. As did SIX of our contestants: mnhockey3535, Silent But Deadly, 36Guy, D6 Girls Fan, MNHockeyFan :) and - you guessed it - leader u12dad, who is starting to run away from the rest of us mere mortals! Based on his 4 point lead and correct picks in all of the Kaposia quarterfinals, it's going to be difficult for anyone to catch him:

1. u12dad – 32 points

2. Silent But Deadly – 28

3. MIYY4U – 27

4. hockeyfan87 – 26
Hockeydad805 – 26

6. mnhockey3535 – 25
RailingWizardofOZ – 25

8. wolfman – 24

The finalists have been determined and will play for the Championship tomorrow at 4:45pm:

19th Annual Kaposia Classic Invitational
December 30 – January 1 @Wakota Arena

Upper Bracket Semifinal
Mounds View 0, Hill-Murray 3

Not a surprise to the 22 who picked Hill-Murray to advance. The other 9 actually had Lakeville North winning this semifinal game and advancing, but of course they lost their quarterfinal game to the Pioneers. They did beat Roseville 4-2 earlier today and will play for the Consolation Championship tomorrow.

Lower Bracket Semifinal
Blake 2, South St. Paul 4

This one was a surprise to all but four in our group who did have the tournament host Packers advancing to tomorrow's championship game. Those four are Silent But Deadly, who with this pick moves "all alone" into 2nd Place, FlyingWarrior, sinbin and Hockeydad805, who takes the 3rd Place position.

Here's our updated standings headed into tomorrow's final game of the contest, which will be worth 3 points to those who correctly pick the 19th Annual Kaposia Classic Invitational Champion. I have a hunch who u12dad will be pulling for! ;)

1. u12dad – 34 points

2. Silent But Deadly – 32

3. Hockeydad805 – 30

In the final game from Wakota Arena:

19th Annual Kaposia Classic Invitational

Championship
Hill-Murray 3, South St. Paul 1

After a scoreless first period Hill-Murray got goals from Jac Kaasa and Kenzie Prater in the second, and Prater added another in the third to win the championship trophy of the 19th Annual Kaposia Classic Invitational. Brigette Miller got one back for the Packers with over 10 minutes left, but the Pioneers' Leah Patrick shut them out the rest of the way. Hill-Murray dominated in the shots-on-goal department, 43-12, with South St. Paul's Sydney Conley making 40 saves to keep her team within range.

The Pioneers were the heavy favorite to win this tournament as they were favored by 21 of 31 of our contestants. One of the 21 was Silent But Deadly, and in a close finish the 3 extra points enabled him to make a remarkable comeback to take home the prestigious Holiday Tournament Prognosticator Champion GRAND PRIZE (yet to be determined, but I'll come up with something! ;) ) Anyway, great showing there, Silent But Deadly, your win counts for two weeks in our season-long battle.

Also want to give a mention to u12dad who was ahead pretty much the whole way, until the very last game. u12dad picked the winners of the other three tournaments and did have Hill-Murray advancing to the final, but picked Blake to win it...Blake did beat Mounds View 4-3 to claim 3rd Place....so close.

Here's the final standings - again CONGRATS to Silent But Deadly!!!

1. Silent But Deadly – 35 points

2. u12dad – 34

3. Hockeydad805 – 33

4. hockeyfan87 – 31
