#11 Prior Lake vs. #13 Duluth East

Post by Slammer »

The 11th ranked Prior Lake takes on the 13th ranked Duluth East at 12:30 in the Schwan Cup.

East is coming off a weird game vs Hill Murray in which they had twice the shots and lost by three, while Prior Lake is coming off of a loss against Minnetonka.

Who ya got? Should be a great one.

If you can't attend you can stream at this link once the game starts.

If the Lakers' D-men play like they did today, East in a walk.

Gotta love losers' bracket polls. DE is best first round loser. Could have "easily beat" HM."

But they did not!

Most teams that lost yesterday could say they "could have easily beat ??" but they did not. That is why there are two brackets.

I actually think both Breck and St. Thomas Academy are better than East this year. And, we get to find out in either the 5th or 7th place game!

I don't think you're ever going to live down the comment on the Elk River game.

Based on what I see on the stream, the score is 0-0 after 1 with shots in favor of the Hounds 8-5. Did anyone watch the first period that can give us an update on how the teams looked?

I missed the whole first because I thought it was at 12:30........ Sorry for the misinformation! I'm going to start watching the stream now!

Still 0-0 in the middle of the 2nd. Whoever that Bump kid is for Prior Lake he needs to be suspended. He has had two 5 minute major penalties in the last two games on some very nasty hits that sent players flying head first into the boards.

Now I'm watching the stream too. East scores twice on the 5 minute major although only one counted. Still a few minutes left on the major penalty.

Yep, 2-0 DE now. Bump just single handedly lost it for his team.

Jack Kolar (coming back from injury) scores his first of the year to put the score to 4-1 with a minute left. Nice to see him back.

End score- Duluth East- 4 Prior Lake- 1.

Shots in favor of East 33-14. Almost the same shot total against HM.

3 of the 4 goals for DE came off power play goals.

Nice win for the hounds, they really showed some skill on the power play and Howg had a nice day in net making some big saves throughout the game. He playing style reminds me so much of JoJo Jeanetta a couple years ago.

Are the shot totals down for opponents because East's defense is good? Or is it more that the teams they're playing just aren't creating shot opportunities?

And Prior Lake has some major issues with D-men who don't stay home and let pucks get behind them.

That alone was the difference between a good game and a blowout yesterday afternoon.

Some of both. East's D is good (especially now that Beaulieu has been moved back there) and they break out very effectively, making it hard for other teams to ever set much up in their offensive zone. They forecheck aggressively, and when they do have the puck they will try to set up in the other team's zone and take a lot of shots.

Randolph hockey in a nutshell, basically.

As for the game today, I only saw the second half of it, but it was an obvious improvement. Howg played well, and I agree with the Jeanetta comparison. He isn't conventional and has fought the puck occasionally, but he can make some big saves.

STA and Breck are 2-2 after 1...it'll be a tough game for East tomorrow no matter who wins.
