Thanks for the vote of confidence, but all kidding aside I think that with one possible exception the games today are all pretty much tossups...so anything could happen!sinbin wrote:I'm sure your 2 point lead is perfectly safe and there is no need to worry about choking.

Maybe not so much for Tonka? I don't see either of their A teams at U14 or U12 being ranked in LPH's Top 10, so maybe the pipeline is not as deep as it has been in recent years?Sparlimb wrote:JV Appetizer
HM 2-0 over Tonka. Shots 34-14 for HM
Hill had a 7th grader in goal for jv game. Evidently they have a 7th grader on varsity as well (plus another on jv). Future looks bright.

Of course, things could change a lot between now and next season - OR - the youth rankings do not reflect reality!

Three of our final five games for the week are reported as final:
Minnetonka 3, Hill-Murray 2 (OT)
Sydney Baldwin got the overtime game winner for Minnetonka in a game featuring the No. 1 and No. 3 ranked Class 2A teams in the State. Baldwin, who will play for the Gophers starting next fall, figured in all three of Tonka’s scores by adding two assists. In goal, Hannah Ehresmann needed to make 37 saves, including 14 in the 3rd Period, to secure the win for the Skippers.
Those participating in our contest this week were very evenly divided as to which of these two teams would come out on top, and it certainly proved to be a very competitive game that could have gone either way. In the end there were 16 who did make the correct call, vs. 13 who came up just short. We also had 5 contestants who guessed the 3-2 score: hockeyfan87, 36Guy, Nordic, blondegirlsdad…..and me. So far it’s just been my week.
Armstrong/Cooper 4, East Grand Forks 5 (OT)
Riley Koberinski’s goal at 1:16 into overtime propelled the Green Wave to victory over the visiting Falcons. It was Koberinski’s second goal of the game, having also scored the tying goal with 5 minutes to go in the 3rd period. Emma Terres had two goals and an assist, while Mari Verbeten contributed three assists for Armstrong/Cooper. For the game East Grand Forks doubled up the Falcons in the shots on goal department, 39-19.
Another “hotly contested” game in our contest. A slim majority – 15 to 13 – correctly picked the Green Wave to win. There were no correct scores in this higher-than-expected scoring game.
Totino-Grace 4, Irondale 3
Laura Minkoff netted the winning goal with 4:31 left to play, and the Eagles held on from there to upset No. 17AA Irondale at the Schwan Super Rink. Maddy Javorina scored two goals for Totino-Grace, while for the Knights Alex Toupal and Samantha Donovan each had a goal and an assist. For the game Irondale outshot the Eagles by a wide 40-21 margin.
A big upset according to our group, as just two – D16Dad and mrleft – picked Totino-Grace to win.
Still waiting on the Orono/Blake and Eden Prairie/Dodge County games, after which I’ll post the final standings for the week.

In yet another game that was decided in overtime – that makes 3 of 4 reported as final so far this evening, it was:
Orono 1, Blake 2 (OT)
Carly Bullock shorthanded goal with just 1:04 left in the overtime period gave No. 3A Blake a 2-1 win over No. 8A Orono in a non-conference matchup at The Blake School Ice Arena. After the two teams battled to a scoreless tie through two, Karlie Lund scored the Bears’ first goal early in the 3rd period, and then assisted on Bullock’s game winner in overtime. Orono’s Sophia Sterling kept the game close up until the very end, making 45 saves on 47 Bears’ shots.
20 of 29 Big Games participants this week correctly picked Blake as the winner in this one. There was just one correct score, submitted by Antagonist, in this defensive battle between two very talented Class A teams.

No score reported just yet for the last game of this week's contest, Eden Prairie vs. Dodge County. Look for the score of this game and the final standings for Week 4 to be posted tomorrow AM!
In the meantime, I am posting the schedule for Week 5 in a separate thread...note the Monday deadline if you want to be "all in" for the entire slate of games!

Final score from Kasson last night:
Eden Prairie 3, Dodge County 2
Game stats are not yet available on either the Hub or MGHCA, but the 3-2 score makes it all five (out of five) games on Week 4's final day that were decided by a single goal, and three of those went to OT. Doesn't get much closer than that!
And speaking of closer, your's truly had a tremendous collapse on the final day, managing to pick just one winner in those final five games.
But fortunately that one winner (Tonka) won by the score I had guessed so that one extra point did enable me to at least get on the podium with two others, Orange_Wisent and blondegirlsdad and we ended up in a three-way tie for 1st.
In this final reported game slightly less than half (13 of 29) thought EP would win, and four of those got the score right: hockeyfan87, Nordic, D6 Girls Fan and.....blondegirlsdad who used that extra point to climb into that tie for 1st. So here are the final totals for Week 4:
1. Orange_Wisent - 10
MNHockeyFan - 10 (choke emoticon would go here lol)
blondegirlsdad - 10
4. wolfman - 9
hockeyfan87 - 9
D6 Girls Fan - 9
7. hockeybozo - 8
Nordic - 8
sinbin - 8
10. clutterbucket - 7
RailingWizardofOZ - 7
capitalpride - 7
D16Dad - 7
spars46 - 7
FlyingWarrior - 7
Misterright - 7
17. Silent But Deadly - 6
Knight7 - 6
mnhockey3535 - 6
Maverick2000 - 6
rascalbrock - 6
36Guy - 6
MIYY4U - 6
(CW also finished with 6)
24. Five with 5
29. One with 4
Time to move on to Week 5 - note that Monday PM deadline!
