Disagree on the walk on not being rostered. If we are actually talking about the number of locker stalls relating to "ice time" then I have really been wasting my time. I would submit that the competition for "ice time" is determined by the number of available players, and not the number of locker stalls. If one player is redshirted and another is not, how are they competing for roster spot with each other? I also just checked 5 players that I know to be recruited walk ons. They are all on the roster for their particular team. I have to concede to you that I have never counted the number of stalls in a locker room. I also can't imagine why I would.

This discussion has tuned belligerent..locker room stalls are generally filled with players, so no I was not literally talking stalls. Your "walk ons" are playing that is why they are rostered. Other walk ons, redshirts and Olympians are still a part of team, just not rostered. So the number of girls competing for roster spots is generally around 26!
Here is a formula to remember:
Rostered = scholarship, walk-on..good enough to dress.
Non Rostered = walk-on(not good enough), redshirt, Olympic Team
The 2 together = Team
My promise to the rest...Done..good, bad or indifferent. Peace, sorry bout the rant!

Actually think this morphed into a better topic. One of the knocks on Minnesota players by the college coaches (per presentation from Brad Frost last summer) is that the aim is to play D1 not to star or win at D1. Often the Minnesota elite players get there but don't excel, in fact at an alarming rate they dont make it at the original school and transfer to D3 or quit. Some discover as freshman that they are no longer the star, some figure out just how much work it is, some learn that committing early means they didnt get to really know the coach/program/school, and some have parents who cant accept their daughter not dressing or playing first line. Thats on top of all the reasons regular students dont all make it.SECoach wrote:I'll just take the last two words then.....phooey and hogwash36Guy wrote:This discussion has tuned belligerent..locker room stalls are generally filled with players, so no I was not literally talking stalls. But back to the statement I would say that I agree for a High School Hockey forum the term "elite" player being defined as any player that has the option to play D1 (scholarship or not). There have been a number of "elite" players that have chosen local D3 over eastern D1 because it was a better personal fit.
As far as the kids in Lakeville, I keep wondering why people want to know what she is doing or what her college thinks? She is a teenager, leave it be. If you really need to know ask your daughter to check twitter they can tell you in about 30 seconds.

I appreciate your get to D1 vs play D1 vs be good at D1 discussion. Bottom line is almost all of these kids will be done actively playing hockey at 22 or 23. At that point their academic creds matter a lot more than their hockey ones. I imagine there are lots of kids, hockey or no, that pick the wrong school for the wrong reasons. Thanks for bringing that up.
But... My 5th grade daughter doesn't follow twitter much. So many of the threads on all these boards ask about transfers, recruits, who is going where and why. From mites to JHL. Still think that who is playing where is relevant.

Don't say you don't care about hockey or else you wouldn't have moved to Minnetonka
Also walk-on's are always "rostered" players. They are getting any scholarship but are still on the roster. In fact I think redshirted players are typically on the roster too. They just can't play.
The only ones that I would assume are not officially rostered would only be practice players...extras, 4th goalies, etc...
Most girls in general don't have the drive to actually make it through 4 years of D-1. Half the time daddy pushed them so fast throughout the process some never got to enjoy things. Then they realize there is more to life then just hockey.
Parents...enjoy it! It won't always be there.

We did not move for hockey. The fact you assume you know our family's business is irresponsible and pathetic. You are the narrow minded parent who thinks every family that relocates is a gung ho jock family. You only know who I am because I choose to not hide behind my moniker like yourself. Fyi, the reason don't hide behind my moniker is because not everything I write is positive. If I have something to say that is not positive I am not going to hide behind the curtain. Mnhockeyfan is a good example: Always positive, so he does not need cast stones and hide.
Last, I did not say I did not care about hockey. I said I would not care about hockey if my daughter had emotional or physical problems so GFY!
You obviously know me..come say hi to me at the arena sometime..we'll chat! There is a difference between pointing out a negative and irresponsible.
