Fodder really! I'm not sure you know the definition of the word but I have a feeling it will be more of a thorn.

The expression cannon fodder means the expendable troops used at the front of an army. It is pretty clear that Hopkins is not the biggest program in the lake conference, so he is saying that someone needs to get beat up through a conference schedule. In truth if he can do a good job, get a good reputation, and maybe hold on to a few more of the top players then he should do alright. Yes we are a bit surrounded by the biggest meat grinder programs in the state (take 120 kids in a birth year and grind out 6 varsity kids on the other end) but the track record of HYHA alums the last few years is pretty good. Glover and Boyd to NTP, Skalbek and Fonz in WCHA, as well as Kruger (G Tonka) and Qualy (G BSM). Also top current players at Tonka and Wayzata. With the right coach hopefully they can hold on to top kids and maybe even pick up some mid level kids who are not going to get a chance at the bigger Lake programs.

High hopes that we have a coach who will be here for a long time and will get the kids to be competing every game.

Heard this afternoon that Waseca has hired Chris Storey, a former assistant coach at Faribault, to replace Jim Ferch.

I heard someone say the other day that Kevin Smalley at Duluth Denfeld was stepping down...is this just a rumor or is there any truth to this? Anyone heard anything?

Glad to hear smalley is staying at Denfeld. Thought he has helped bring Denfeld into the conversation for section championship talk. It might be a tougher year coming with the graduates. Hope he can keep them competitive in section 7. Denfeld grad of 1993. Tower power baby.

Thanks for the info. I was surprised, i guess. I had heard Belisle was well liked. With Rajanen the wingers will still be in good hands. tough upcoming season though, for any coach.

Assistant Michael Weiss from Moorhead takes over the Marshall HC position in 3A.
Also in 3A, Ammerman has left the Windom HC job and returned to Moorhead as an assistant.

Jason Fairman, formerly the HC at Buffalo interviewed at Rogers yesterday. Down to two candidates, so should have a new coach next week.

A little bit more news now up on GRHS Hockey Online: he's resigned for "general health and family" reasons.

A rather abrupt move, it seems. It'll be interesting to see who takes the reins in Rapids.

I am sorry to see him go; I felt he represented the community well, based on what I saw from him during the games.

I don't know much about these things, but I infer this might be a tough time of year for such a change. Can those more in-the-know offer some thoughts, please?

Also, any ideas out there on potential candidates and whether they could bring much of a charge to the program?

An article from a GR paper:

Makes it sound like stress was the "health concern."

Also of note in this article is that Avery Peterson sure doesn't sound like someone who's about to leave for the USHL.

Have to agree on Peterson. I would bet he stays.
