The only way that happens is if Minnetonka moves to 2AA because it is the furthest south.MNHockeyFan wrote:I'll take that bet and "McDouble" it!36Guy wrote:I'll take that bet...we're on! They haven't been to the tournament since the last coachings staff class went thru.

Interesting comment. I guess losing to the state champ every year in the section finals is disappointing (and according to some Tonka fans losing to the best team to ever play girls hockey) but if BSM is underachieving, what about the rest of the state? Tonka is 18-0 over the last 3 years in "win or go home games". Ok, I suppose if they lose their first one at state, you can keep playing but you get the point. That means 15 other teams "under achieved" as welll. And if you acknowledge that the other 60 or so teams didn't win enough games to even get a chance to lose to Tonka, the entire state underachieved. Or maybe you are saying BSM is actually the best team to ever play the game and they should have saved their wins over Tonka the last couple years for the Section Finals? How about if we just acknowledge Tonka is a damn good team/program with arguably the best coach in the state? And if you want to get your daughter into BSM pipeline, have her enroll and then wait for tryouts to see if she can make the team like the rest of the girls have to do every year. Or maybe you alredy tried that and it didn't go so well.
Or just put BSM in a different section for 2013-2014 and let Tonka and BSM duke it out at State. Tonka has won the equivalent of about 5 state championships the last 3 seasons by also winning the toughest section in the state the last 2 seasons. Time to give both BSM and Tonka a break and let them meet on the big stage. Or, is that being too kind to BSM?

...the funny thing is, it's reasonable to suggest that both BSM and Tonka will have slightly weaker teams next year than they did this. And it's also reasonable to think that Eden Prairie, Hill-Murray, Mounds View, Hopkins and Edina will all be improved. Any way to get all those schools in different sections next year?
I would agree with your assessment except Tonka obviously takes the biggest hit. I don't think that they have 5 D1 players in the wings to replace the seniors they lost. Some of the role players and others will need to step up for them. BSM loses some defense, but their offense is so strong. I think their goalie is back, too, right? All of the others you mentioned will be improved. It would be great to split them up as it wouold be the most balanced state tournament in years, but MSHSL will let intertia rule the day, I'm sure. Whoever is hot at the end (with perhaps a hot netminder) will carry the day. I still give the edge to BSM at this point.
i'd take ssp in a heartbeat over tonka.
most dominant team during its reign...
if you think ssp was all about the big three you really are missing the other 10+ d-1 players that played during this time frame... and to be honest, you have no idea what you are talking about.... the big three was the talk their sr year, which was the team that may have been the weakest of the championship teams.
ssp had a center on its fourth line. she was a sr and the next year she is playing d-1.... big three only? most quality depth of any teams in history....

Would Lakeville South or Dodge County rather play a district 6 team next year instead of North to increase their chances to go to state? Pretty reasonable to believe they would be the state champs absent a key injury.D6 Girls Fan wrote:...the funny thing is, it's reasonable to suggest that both BSM and Tonka will have slightly weaker teams next year than they did this. Maybe you don't want to move next year.
Why do you think mounds view is going to be so much improved? They lost like 3-4 key seniors. Didn't they?
And why do you think benilde will not be as good. The only player they lose is halverson. Almost all their forwards are back and their goalie.
My prediction next year...
Dodge county
Eden prairie
Don't care
Hill Murray
Blaine
Benilde
Andover
Roseau

The quality of hockey is much higher today than years ago, so that these are not apples-to-apples comparisons. Yes, the old Boston Celtics dynasty teams were dominant for 10 years, but they'd be lucky to win one championship in today's era. So, assuming these facts are correct, SSP certainly sounds like they were more dominant during their era than Tonka, but it would be a much different argument to determine which team was "better". The overall quality of play is so much better today, that I don't think any team in AA will be as dominant, unless recruiting is stepped up another notch for some teams. Tonka will have 11-12 D1 players from this group over the past 3 years, which is unheard of. No other recent team is even close. Yes, there are more D1 programs now than 10-20 years ago, but the competition from US and abroad is now much more fierce, too.
