PWAA: Elimination Tuesday in D6

Interesting final remarks on the District tournament format. The state tournament for Pee Wee and Bantam is just 8 teams, single elimination. The NCAA tournament is 16-teams, single elimination. High School Sectionals are single elimination.

I agree that it's tough to see teams lose heartbreakers, but part of the mystique is that it can all end in a hurry.

I love seeing teams play for all the marbles.

Was rooting for Chaska to win this one.. a certain team and their move in players are not a true community based team! It is like that at all the levels with the single game elim.. and yes it is heartbreaking.. live another day for some of these teams.

Waiting for the moderator to contemplate... and I really don't care if he allows it on his site anyway, but I like the "Realism" of this board, so I'll post it here.

Commentary: The single elimination format that D6 puts together for the PeeWee and Bantam AA teams is simply wrong. The two teams who lost tonight put in countless hours of practice and energy to have their season end in a one game elimination format. D6 prides itself as the “premier Minnesota Youth Hockey League…” It should have a premier playoff format, too.

Typical “Metro Mentality”… Something doesn’t work out in what’s (IN your OPINION correct) and “Let’s change the rules!”. Don’t want to waste our time playing certain teams, so “Let’s change the rule”. Don’t want to travel more than 20 minutes for a game, so let’s “Change the Districts”… A team that “Should” have won, didnt’, so “Let’s gather our Metro Bretherend and change it up”! Pathetic comment. By YOUR logic, teams that are .500 should just give up at Midseason because they “SHOULDN’T” advance, and the teams with better records should just coast because they “SHOULD” win and should be allowed a free pass to Regions/State. Where do you think you are, Rochester? That’s the most ignorant comment I’ve heard you make, and I’ve only been listening a short while. Win or done, is all over the Country this time of year… Oh, that’s right, MN (and especially the beloved “Premiere” D6) isn’t part of the rest of the Country, I keep forgetting. I’m glad I took my boys and left, because I had the unfortunate luck of growing up playing in a town that’s “NOT SUPPOSED TO WIN”…. Idiotic “Commentary”.

Sometimes the regular season counts for something. 1 and 2 seeds are gauranteed to move on to regions.

Last night's winners are also guaranteed to move on (I believe D6 is sending 4 to regions this year). That makes for a very tough first game in districts. Win and you are playing a bunch more, lose and you are done. A game 7 without the 6 game buildup!

There are many teams that have put in countless hours and energy that are finished for the season now. That's the way playoffs work. Much better than just selecting the teams, or giving everybody a trophy.

To save everyone the pain of going to our site. I did allow his comment. And I did respond. Proper context of my commentary is that D6 lost money this year...the numbers are public. To save money and probably a bunch of 'free' volunteer hours from their member associations they went with this format. Point A (not expounded on). There is no other district with 4 or more teams that puts it's #3 or #4 team on the griddle in the first round...D11 PWB is the only exception. Point B (not expounded on).

Thanks for your comments. Not sure they have merit though. D6 is the only metro district that compiles their District playoffs this way. And is the only district with more than 4 teams, besides District 11 PWB that has a single elimination format like this for it’s third and fourth place teams. That is the context of this commentary.

As for your other issues…I suggest a therapist.

YHH is all about the underdog and the team who comes out of nowhere. This year it’s Roseville in PWB, last year it was Duluth Denfeld in BB1. To suggest we cheer for favorites and want the teams that “Should” win to win is as you would say IDIOTIC.
