Added a picture sent into me by a mom of a perfect check by one of their kids.
Editor's note: I went to MM to cover these games for a couple hours. I gotta admit two very honest feelings that went through my body while watching these kids play.
1. The body checking seemed weird and I never seemed to get use to it watching kids this young hitting each other.
2. The body checking that the kids displayed was done very well and and well coached...this one picture is not the only perfect check I saw.

Just curious why it seemed weird to see them checking? The 01's started checking last year in summer hockey and the 02's will start this summer. I know that a lot of the local summer tournaments stopped checking at the 01 level last year and will probably do the same with the 02's this summer, but a fair amount of the 01's in the super squirts were on teams that went to tournaments with checking.YouthHockeyHub wrote:

Most because I've watched 60 or so association squirt games this year without it. My AAA schedule is focused mostly on the prominent incoming squirt level (last year was '02) this year it will be the 03s.
So I don't see a lot of checking at this body size...I guess that is why it just seemed weird. Hope that makes sense.
Like I said. I left the rink more in favor of body contact than against. I've always been proponent of body contact to separate from the puck, but an opponent of open ice high hits.

Wild win Super Squirt Tournament @ Minnesota Made
As the parent of a player on one of the Minnesota Made "SS" teams, I really enjoyed the article. It was more informative than many of the Tournament propaganda articles I've read in LPH, which of course are submitted by the Team Managers or the Tournament Directors.
Like all tournament articles, the focus was on the players and the coaches. The "PR" structure of the article was helpful in explaining the format for the tournament, and the Develoment Model that is being used at MM.
The MM program has been a great experience for my son, and he was excited to see an article about his team winning the Squirt Tournament. Nice to see that MM stepped-up and posted the SS Tournament article.
On to read the post on the controversy with Hermantown & North Branch, and the Squirt A Tournament. It appears that the Social Engineers of USA Hockey/Minnesota Hockey are out in Full force, as they debate the rules that obstruct youth hockey. I hope Jack Blatherwick references that post in his next article, as an example of how the USA/Minnesota Hockey rules and bureaucracy continue to stifle the sport they profess to promote.

The guy uses his own name and writes a post of his personal feelings? HMMMMM. How dare he do that. Maybe all of us should use our own names as our monikers and see who safeguards it.

Nice shout out to the goalies. [TS from FL]. Yes I think that Forest Lakes Pee-wee AA team will in the end find more enjoyment playing 30 or more different teams/being able to go to school and talk about your team or game with classmates. Talking in the lockeroom about the teacher that you like/dislike [and everyone knowing him/her]. Talking about the girl every boy in school wants to know better, yada yada. How many Super squirts played on assc teams as well ??? Are these same kids going to have to pick or will they play both at pee-wee ??

OG - why do you have such a problem with families playing in the Choice league, but when people discuss kids attending online schools in order to play hockey you gush all over that thread and defend those families and call anyone who questions that decision a hater? I think to most non-hockey families, and maybe even a lot of hockey families, having your kid attending an online school in order to play hockey all day is a whole lot crazier than spending 120 hours at MM.old goalie85 wrote:Nice shout out to the goalies. Clearly, MM is not for your family. Your kid is getting whatever it is your family wants out of association hockey, that is great. But MM does work for the above parent so have the same respect for him you have for the Achiever families.

Response to the Professional Blogger - Re: Safeguard
Hey Mr. B or LT P...or whoever you are.
Sorry I'm late to respond to your childish shot about my intelligence. You see, I actually work for a living and have little time to follow your mindless challenges online.
Personal Insults are always the easiest form of response. Much easier than responding to the content, and having an intelligent opinion.
I said what I had to say about the MM Super Squirt Tournament Post. I signed my name, and I have nothing more to say on the topic. It's a great program and I felt the article was a nice summary. I guess to you the truth is a SAFEGUARD. You're right....always better to tell the truth, and sign your name.
By the way, I missed your big show a few days ago. When you came out of your Bunker, did you predict early spring or a longer winter?
Have fun in your "Little Kingdom" as an "Alias Blogger".

BDTR- The same points I make pertaining to "the made" , I love that one , are the same ones I makr about NEEHS , now I see we have another in Chan I should maybe apologize to any families I offended, not my intention. Just a guy giving it back to the constant "it's broken and we are the fix" attitude that is at work in certain minds in the for profit hockey culture. And before you start explaining capitalism to me I get it. The best parents ta hook are the mite/ squirts because we know they will be playing in the NHL. I just happen to type what my opinion is. I don't want to offend anyone. I enjoy hockey in our state. I want all kids to be the best possible. And maybe I'm a little old and set in my ways and am afraid of change?? I don't know. I didn't mean to offend you or your kid !!!!

I posted that the original post sounded like a paid advertisement. I'm sure that anybody would agree that it was pretty well scripted.
Your first post sounded like more of the same from the original, but liked your opinion on the Hermantown Tournament. Hence, I figured you mentioned the Hermantown tournament to safeguard me from calling your post an advertisement. It's the reason I put the good humored

This is simple when compared to the 50-100 work E-mails I need to resond to each day. Being the owner allows me time and why not talk a little Hockey? Hey, by the way, are you bringing the McRib back?
I've always been for options and have mentioned the Choice League as being a good one.
Now go back with the throngs of others that spend WAY more time just observing.

Surprised that Mr. Bo didn't get this one locked up with his current record. Being a business owner, please share, so many of us can offer you new opportunities to expand and grow without emoticons and enlighting us on your direction within hockey for everyone to despair on this site. BTW...no kids yet but you need a timeout. Go MN Made SS and I'm going back within the "throngs of others" observing MN hockey direction. This is simple when compared to the 50-100 work E-mails I need to resond to each day. Actually, my family decisions regarding hockey are probably closer to yours than you think, so you didn't offend me. My son played at MM (I also absolutely hate when anyone calls it "the made"), but this year he wanted to play with his friends from school. It has worked out great because he loves talking hockey with his team instead of paying attention to the teacher at school. But we also have friends who still play at MM and the better competition is more important to those kids and they love it for that reason. It depends on what is important to your kid/family.old goalie85 wrote:BDTR- The same points I make pertaining to "the made" , I love that one , are the same ones I makr about NEEHS , now I see we have another in Chan I should maybe apologize to any families I offended, not my intention. To me, it seems like you go out of your way to hate MM because you think they are marketing to parents who think their little one is the "next one" but you don't think NEEHS is worse than MM in that regard??? That's nonsense. If you hate MM for those reasons, then you really shouldn't be defending NEEHS with stuff like this:
old goalie85 wrote:Always will be haters. We [my family] have freinds that love it. I think everyone knows it's not for all. Seems to work out great for them. It's a good thing that they have a varsity this year. I remember when all Steve talked about was AAA this and AAA [Tier 1] that. Sounds like they[Yuro/Woodcroft] have realized that the metro has a huge market. And we have some very good non-AAA[winter] players. Happy new year and good luck NEEHS !!!!!
My point about MM is the same as yours right there - I think everyone knows MM is not for all. Seems to work out great for some. Good luck to families like MT's.

Was w/a guy that has a son in the SS last night at the oudoor rink /bar. We had same conversation. And I think it is the change that does not appeal to me. But for some maybe it is keeping them in hockey. I was thinking it [all programs like MM] would end up pushing kids out of hockey. But I guess for some they hate their assc so much they would have the kids play basketball before going back. If thats the case then good job Bernie. Do they really have to call it "The Made" ??

That is an excellent point. The change from my youth sports experience is ridiculous - and not just in hockey - baseball, soccer, everything seems to be trending away from community-based and informal playing (pond hockey, pick-up baseball/football/whatever at the local park), toward more and more organization and privatization. And then add on the pressure to play a sport year long...old goalie85 wrote: And I think it is the change that does not appeal to me. But for some maybe it is keeping them in hockey. Every time I hear someone call it "the made" I feel like slapping them.
For the record, I have not heard MT reference it as such - he's a good guy and his family is one of the ones that made playing at MM more enjoyable.
