YHH: Letter to the Editor "North Means North"
Received a great note today from a guy from Bemidji (no, not elliot) who spoke out against a previous Letter from a guy who wrote in recently about the screwy MNH AA regional system.
It is a great viewpoint about Metro vs. OutState

Very interesting. I always thought the purpose of the split was to give smaller associations (a category I would put most northern associations in) their own A tourney. Now the implementation was terrible, and the big metro associations destroyed that concept. I find it interesting that the north is fed up with AA and not A, that has been corrupted by the big associations.
Out state
I have always hated the term "out state" what does that mean? Dist 16 15 ETC are still "IN" the state of Minnesota they are not located in North Dakota or Wisconsin.. Totally agree with the rant from Bemidji guy..Some Joe Schmoe from The "cities" believes that his program is more important than the northern teams..Northern teams in the last 5-6 yrs at both Bantam A and PWA level have had Champion Roseau PWA in '09 i believe and Bantam "A" EGF runner up last yr.. Also I know EGF wanted to opt up to AA this yr but was told that they couldn't for reasons unknown.

Not entirely true.Flin Flon wrote:I have always hated the term "out state" what does that mean? At the 11th hour (or later) they wanted to opt up.
They were moved up.
But when we found out that they (whoever they are) wanted two metro teams in the 'north regoinal'; EGF decided to go back to A. We got thta done and then continued to argue to get District 11 3 spots.
If we would have had a north region (made up of D11, 12 & 16 - per the Minnesota Handbook) it would have been 8 of the larger north associations.

north should be north for sure....the boundries are good
but as always some crybaby city slicker figures out how to get his little pumpkin to someplace he ought not a be.
maybe da north dont have the depth, but we aint got the people or the money either...so bring on slick rick and the boys...if they pull it off good for them...a game is a game
maybe north can have a flannel rebellion.....them slick ricks cant stand that stuff

I think the answer is simple...create 8 regions based on geography and each region gets one representative to the State Tournament. Some Regions would have more teams then others, some teams will have to travel more then others. A "State Tournament" by definition suggest that it is not about having the best teams in the state but rather the best teams from around the state. If the two best teams square off in the region final instead of the state final does it really make a difference? People need to stop trying to manufacture story book endings and just let the natural course of things happen. The MSHSL Tournament that all of Minnesota Hockey is based around doesn't guarantee the best teams every year that tournament represents the entire state.

Pretty sure not one person outside of the great metropolis is crying with you....crw wrote:and the only reason D5 got an extra seed is because they agreed to send their other teams (Not AA) out to D4 sites to play games..
ex.. to Luverne, Redwood Falls, etc., do you think those parents appreciated that drive back and forth on a Saturday afternoon... NOT
Not crying about it.. just stating the facts...defense wrote:Pretty sure not one person outside of the great metropolis is crying with you....crw wrote:and the only reason D5 got an extra seed is because they agreed to send their other teams (Not AA) out to D4 sites to play games..
