YHH: Letter to the Editor

Post by YouthHockeyHub »

Got a great letter today from a guy who pokes even more holes in AA seeding format. A few holes I hadn't even noticed. One of them is so wrong I had to look at three times to confirm he was correct (D10 related).

http://youthhockeyhub.com/letter-to-the ... -be-wrong/

Enjoy,

TS

PS On the same topic, D6 and D8 news forthcoming on their seeding process

Here is another thing pretty similiar to this if we are talking about sandbaggin....

Take D8 and D6 for exampl.e Usually if you end up being the worst seed it makes it difficult to advance....yet in this case being the 4th seed out of these two districts ends up actually being beneficial, because now you are put into a different region. No offense to districts 4, 5 and 9 but they are not as strong as 6, 8 and 2.

If it was a battle for the 3rd and 4th seed in districts 8 and 9...the thought of "4th" seed may not actually be all that bad.

There will be a change next year.

About the only thing the DD's agree on 100% regarding this.

So, there probably will not be a change. :D

Options for next year as to playoffs:

1 leave as is (not really being considered)

2 establish 4 leagues, geographically that will have a play-off.
balance to the extent possible (something like the girls leagues.

3 leave north, east, south, west regions as they are with various districts sending teams and figure out a method to balance them with some degree of logic.

4 Go to the old method of maroon, gold silver regions
allocation of teams to state would be something like 2 from gold, 1 from silver, 5 from maroon.

5. some hybrid of 3 & 4

As far as the set-up AA, A, B1 etc...

now gathering information, and looking at what options there are....

If you have a AA then no A;
AA the you will have an A;
if AA the local assn decides what to do....
and whatever alternative you can think of...

John Perry is gathering ideas and comments...
please send them off to him.

Again, can people just stop bitching about which region is easier than the other.. Yes the south and north are easier than the east and west... But the other districts wouldn't be having to send teams to the south and north if they had enough teams to fill the seeds for the AA regions.. The extra births are coming from the bigger districts and the are taking the spots that certain districts couldn't fill (example d4)...if we didn't have the whole AA/A thing this year we wouldn't be having this problem.. Should the teams from say D5 and D9 be penalized and have to play a D6 1 or 2 seed instead of. 4 seed.. No( but those 4 seeds will still have Very good shots at advancing)Does it screw up the district tourneys yes...

Did anyone from D6 complain last year when they were with D9 and D4 and D4 had no A teams for the bantam regions? No.. Did they come out and say maybe we should mix it up? No

What's done is done, leave it be and hopefully it's all fixed next year.. Have an independent person rank all the teams and do a 32 team pool..

I agree that maybe the 3rd place games in those districts should give the Winner choice of 3 or 4 seed but enough of the bitching... Nothing is going to change this year.

Some people could say they should send the higher Seeds to the north and south regions...doesn't that just benefit the districts outside that region... Now their 4 seed has the same chance winning in their own regions because top teams went to north and south and win those...

The original format (which obviously doesnt work today) was set up to get teams from all over to compete in tourney against each other not to have a state tourney with 4 teams from D6 (even if some say they should all be there).

Go ahead and start ripping me.... I know who are the better teams and who aren't and it doesn't matter who moves on or not.,

I'm just tired of all the bitching!!

Just be happy we have leadership that is leading us by the seat of their pants...? A few of us saw all this coming last spring and tried to warn about it before it went in to the season.

A little thinking would have avoided all this.

You sound as confused as them(maybe you are one of them  ) in your rambling post.

BB82 was the right one in all of this. "MNH will set us ten years back"

That statement that there were not enough teams is not true.

The north region had enough teams from D11, 12 & 16 to make up an 8 team format. Also, no more than 3 teams from a particular district would participate. But some wanted to allow 6 from D11, 12, & 16.
After much discussion one team was selected from the metro (originally not to be a D10 team - 1 D6 & 1 D8)
One district dropped a team and it was negotiated to allow one district to have 3 teams from the north and one metro area team.

Your correct on that point..

According to the original handbook... Before the AA/A change
D16 - 3 seeds
D11 - 3 seeds
D12 - 2 seeds

D16 - had 3 AA teams Bemidji, Roseau and EGF
D11 - had 3 AA teams Cloquet, Duluth East and Hermantown
D12 - had 2 AA teams Grand Rapids and Hibbing

So why change the North up? I. Agree..

D9 and D4 fell short in the South Region... Should they fill in with more teams from D5? No, that would be ridiculous... They gave their births to the bigger districts...again, does it screw up district tourneys? Yes, but why penalize the teams that were in the south region by putting top seeds in there...they gave the extra seeds to the right districts but may have made a mistake by putting what teams where...

However, it's too late in the year to change things now.....hopefully it all gets corrected for next year but I guarantee you no matter what happens not everyone's going to be happy so again..

Stop bitching people and play the cards your dealt....
