Switching to goalie

Post by flpucknut »

Any one have any tips about switching to goalie? My son is a 1st year squirt and has expressed some interest. Don't even know where to start. Are there any beginner clinics or something he could try on the side?? Hes an athletic kid and I think he would be good at it but am at a total lost.....

Start bringing him to the Wed. night goalie clinics. Perfect age to start. Forest Lake Web has the clinic times under the goalie tab.

OG - I emailed the committee, but do you know if they have equipment to use? Id hate to go and drop 600 bucks and not know if he likes it.

Isn't most association subsidizing goalie training and equipment? Most even provide loaner goalie equipment.

Having an athletic kid playing goalie is a bless to a association!

If you have a practice that will work have your current goalie(s) skate out and borrow his pads if the kids are close in size. Work in plenty of shooting but not so much that it scares him. Good way to see if he likes it before you invest $$ or more time taking him to a clinic. If that works see if there is a game on your schedule that makes sense for him to play in.
