Inquiring minds want to know--why would Youth Hockey Hub and its correspondent preview this tournament in great detail, provide two posts with lengthy updates of pool play games, and then after the final four is set, completely ignore what happened in the championship round? The Hub posted stories on the PWA finals and the Bantam AA finals (which sandwiched the PW AA game), so the absence on any mention--even just a score posting--of the semis or championship game is conspicuous.

For the record, Edina nipped Centennial 4-3 to win the championship. The Cougars rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead early in the third period, before Edina managed a couple late goals. Centennial played really well in an exciting game--a fact that loyal readers of the Hub haven't yet heard, some three days after the tournament concluded.

I'm not advocating that all tournaments should be written up--to the contrary, it's maybe just a little silly to have such in-depth coverage of 12 / 13 year old games. But if you are going to cover the event, cover it all the way through. In other words, don't report on the Iowa caususes, the primaries, and the conventions, but then ignore the general electiion.

So you thought there was a D6 rule that prevented Edina or any other team from playing a Tier I team?

Sorry, but I think he must have just been trying to politely decline the offer.

Edina Bantams regularly play Shattuck and about two years ago played a team from Dallas to start their season. Also, Edina Pee Wees faced (and demolished) the Wisconsin Fire two years ago.

Maybe it is a new rule. ?
Ok, so here is what I have found out. Apparently there was a District 6 rule that prevented this in the last couple of seasons:
2009-2010 Changes
1) There is a minimum 3 game suspension for fighting when called in a game between District 6 teams whether in league, scrimmage or tournament.

2) Check your goalie pads. The rules changed and the grandfather period is over this year. Page 47 of the Ice Hockey rules outlines the requirements.

3) No Inter Level Play without Director approval. Tier I AAA teams are not allowed in Invitational Tournaments.

4) Participation Rule -- This rule changes player eligibility.
Based on those rules above you couldn't play AAA teams in tournaments (per rule change #3) nor could A teams play AAA teams without Director approval (per rule change #3). Also, in previous seasons the officials in Distirct 6 were given specific rules that they were NOT allowed to ref any games involving Tier 1 AAA team that were being played against MN assocation teams. However, apparently this season the rules have loosened and changed changed for tournaments once again and now the rules state:
AAA and/or Tier I teams maybe accepted into District 6 Association sponsored tournaments at the discretion of the tournament Director. District 6 Associations must advertise that AAA/Tier I teams are being accepted in their tournament ad.
The new rules regarding this in the District 6 Rule Book are actually "bolded", which may be the case ofr all new rule changes but it just seemed kind of funny in an ironic way to me since I didn't see any other bolded rules for this season. ..... Anyway, so basically you can invite AAA teams to your tourney but you have to advertise it so others are aware now but it can be done in tournament play. However, the language regarding "Interlevel Play" still seems to be nebulous and apparently is still up to District Director approval, so my interpretation is that AAA team could play AA team in MN District 6 BUT would need Director approval. However, it seems not everyone is aware of the "loosening" of the rules and some folks still believe they are under the same rules as previous seasons. Me not being from MN had no reason to doubt the person from MN that told me these things but they must still think last years rules are in place, a family member of mine that I asked about this helped me find the info and told me that this has "not been advertised" even though it clearly is in the new rule book stated this way. Info on this forum is only reason I have investigated further and found all of this info. So this is good news for me, now maybe the folks who actually live there wil find out about it too
