I saw that....very good story.

I saw most of this group of kids play as Squirts two years ago...they had some very nice players.

Does Johnson/Como "A" Pee Wee's have a good team?

Johnson has No A team.

Similar to North Metro they are fielding only B teams at Pee Wee and Bantam

Take out the A - Johnson has no team.
There is a minute of my life I can't get back.
What the heck is a guy from Forest Lake talking about Johnson for?

I used to live in the Phalen area before moving to Forest Lake 4 years ago and Johnson/Como had a "A" Pee Wee team. Do you know how many people used to live in the Johnson boundries myself included.

I think every person on here knows about the up hill walk thru the snow Johnson/Como/Mpls types have.

Great to see the city team having success. Hopefully Johnson Como can recruit some more kids and get back to fielding teams at an A level soon enough.

...great to see outdoor games too...

I agree with dlow but Johnson/Como keeps releasing players to other organizations. If MAHA would just make players stay in their areas it would benefit all. I know up here in Forest Lake we have at least one if not more players from Johnson/Como. Also Irondale has some as does Highland, The answer would be no releases. Good luck to the team from Johnson.

So let me get this straight...the kids rated #75-100 in Minnetonka's Pee
Wee ranks lost a game of hockey, outside, on a 7 degree day, to the kids rated #1-15 from the johnson/como coop (no A teams in Johnson)...

wow, that is breaking news...

Not quite. #31-45 Minnetonka PW's.

Kind of a bummer. Como/Johnson team would have done just fine in A. Hard to cheer for a team playing down two levels. I guess they really wanted their kids to win some trophies.

How many kids did they have for tryouts?

Looks like they are placed correctly with only 29 players total including goalies at the JC peewee level.

I am the ex president in the Johnson/Como association and this team is placed correctly. I am one of the assistance of the "B" squirts at Johnson/Como and we had 35 squirts total tryout and the Bantams had 36. If this team would have went "A" they would be toward the bottom in District 8. Two years ago we played "A" in district 8 and were bottom dwellers and won one game in the league of course then Rosemount, Farmington and Lakeville South made it to the state tournament all from our district. This weekend this team plays in the Edina tourney with the first game against Winnipeg second against Edina and then Wayzata. "Roll Devil"s"

This team is the top rated team in state for PW B1 (8-0 in district and 14-2 overall). In your opinion that is correct placement. In my opinion it is not.

They would have been a .500 team at A. In my opinion that would have been better for their long term development. But trophies are fun too. Roll Devils!

Barry, you make some good points and they probably could have gone A, but I can see how it would be difficult to figure out what the right top level should be when only 29 peewees try out.

When you and others call this "trophy chasing," you aren't helping your cause (which is?). There may be some of that going on sometimes with some teams but most misplacement of teams are not done on purpose. I'm guessing Johnson/Como is not taking bids to build a bigger trophy case.

On the other end of things, every district has a few 0-10, 1-11 teams that get constantly blown out, by even the mid-level teams. These teams are misplaced and many of their games are over by the mid first period.

There has been complaining about associations having too many or not enough A/AA teams this year. There are likely some real experienced association people out there who can just see kids skills level and figure out where they should be, but every year a given levels' overall skill will vary (and the AA/A pilot just complicates). Volunteer coaches, volunteer boards, etc, have to make quick decisions (mostly prior to tryouts), based primarily on numbers, to declare which teams they will field...which is why I'd like to see some guidelines from MN hockey on how they think the divisions (AA,A,B1,B2,C) should be divided up.

Too many complaints, not enough solutions.
