Questions about Youth Hockey Hub Rankings
I have a question about the YHH rankings. I give credit for YHH for making the attempt to provide this for all the teams. But do you find them to be accurate? I don't understand how/why some of the scores are entered and some are not. I see any examples of scores being entered, but games that took place before those scores are entered are no where to be found. IMO this greatly changes what the rankings should be. Again, I want to thank YHH for doing this and I like their website, just wondering what others think.

Become a "scorer" - self explanatory on the YHH website on how to do this, and enter the scores from the missing games. More games in the system, the better the data will become.hockeygirl2 wrote:I have a question about the YHH rankings. I give credit for YHH for making the attempt to provide this for all the teams. Has to be a massive task to enter all of this data. What is the reward other than having the best go to site out there? Every team out there should designate a manager or coach or parent to enter their own games. It seems like the rankings are starting to take some shape. Cudo's.

To set those at ease about my/our credibility I made a post with 5 levels (BA, PWA, SQA, U12A, and U10A). Manual rankings based on the data we've received.
http://youthhockeyhub.com/staff-ranking ... r-26-2012/
Each level we take our data and some experts at each level, and voila some solid rankings. Not perfect, but pretty close. The 8-10's at every level are the hardest. As I said earlier, the #1's are easy at these 5 levels.
Thanks Snyper12. The hard work sure paid off today. We had our second biggest day today (second only to the Monday after Fargo 2012).

Kinda hard to become a scorer when there is constantly an error when trying to add scores to your favorite team. Then you email them and they don't get added. Makes it difficult to be accurate when your north of the river. but if your south of the river dont worry it will be fixed.

Wow - some people. Do you think there is a reason they post manual rankings as well? They know the data is not in there yet - some teams get late starts, some teams don't enter scores, whatever... Who cares. It's a system in place that will likely eventually take shape and/or be adjusted accordingly. He already even explained the AA and A situation screwing up the formula. Take it for what its worth, use it as you see fit, and hopefully later in the year it will be right on the mark. Can tell you this, it's lights out better than the formula/data in myhockeyrankings, and it's not even close - and they are only entering Bantam and PeeWee A I think (and they are not even close to caught up with scores). I would suggest shut down the formula rankings until they do take shape (and just keep providing manual) - to stop the whinners out there. Or maybe those who appreciate it for what it's worth outrule the whinners and they will keep the sight going as is? Hope so.frozenponds wrote:Yep, all about having a big day!YouthHockeyHub wrote:

myhockeyrankings is actually pretty accurate...but yes I agree...I give Tony props for trying something new. To be honest...a few years ago we didn't even have anything other than let's play hockey so I'd say we have come along way.snyper12 wrote:Wow - some people. Not! Just checked. PeeWee A = Edina 9-0, South 6-1-2, Tonka 3-2-1, OMG 5-3-1, EP 1-4, EV not even listed? Could hardly say this is even a "pretty accurate" acount of teams compared to the YHH site and again they are doing ten times the local teams it seems.
Actually...myhockeyrankings shows Edina as 15-0-0...if you click on the far right button (details) it has the most up to date games and FYI they update them usually the same night as the game. Might want to try and use those computer skills we all learned back in elementary school. These are considered pending games that will be updated on the main page usually a few days later.TheJet wrote:Survey wrote:myhockeyrankings is actually pretty accurate...but yes I agree...I give Tony props for trying something new. www.myhockeyrankings.com is updated each Wednesday morning.
I too give YHH credit for offering their new rankings and they are ranking many more levels. But, I love myhockeyrankings.com for Bantam A and PeeWee A ranking as well as all the Tier 1 teams nationally. A much more interesting web visit in my opinion. Seems very accurate and complete which is based on users.

Just used those computer skills we learned in college - we didn't have them in elementary school youngster. Missing too many teams and games - check out EP, where is Duluth East? Just 2 of the premier MN powers overlooked. Worthless w/o them. Thx.
Yup...looks like they are missing games from both of those two teams. never said it was 100% accurate just said its pretty accurate. As of right now I look there before I go to YHH rankings. Plus if you'd like, you can just mix and match them if you really care that much of who you think should be in their exact spots.TheJet wrote:Survey wrote:Actually...myhockeyrankings shows Edina as 15-0-0...if you click on the far right button (details) it has the most up to date games and FYI they update them usually the same night as the game. If you actually click on the alphabetical list since they don't rank teams on myhockey until they have 5 games completed. You will see that EP has 6 pending games that will be updated Wednesday morning and will then be ranked and have them for a record of 5-3. Duluth East has 2 pending games and have a record of 4-1. This is all at the Pee Wee level so you just need to click on each team to confirm they are accurate and if they aren't and you know the games and scores that are missing you can submit them.

Spend a little more time on myhockeyrankings.com and a little less time on this forum or at least spend a little more time before fussing for no reason.
All rankings, on any site, are only as good as the team managers entering scores on time and correctly.
Wednesday morning is always interesting to see where teams move. Before Wednesday you can look at the scores yet to post and guess if the team is going up or down. All the tourney scores from last weekend will factor in tomorrow.

Better yet - I can just look at YHH and click on the team - they have the teams I noted missing as well as some other notables with 10+ games that are missing. To each his/hers own. I'll use YHH. Thx.

To each there own you have your preference others have a preference and I have my own preference. Just find it hard to fine credibility in YHH when I have submitted scores 3 or 4 different times to YHH and they still havent shown up on that site yet. I am guessing it is because a small association beat an bigger association from the south
I didn't "start" any fuss. As good as the team managers entering (and/or the host of the site tracking the scores down). I have no need as noted to look at myhockeyrankings and have found what I feel is a much more suitable accurate up to date source. Is there a problem offering an opinion and backing it up with a little proof/data? I don't think so. Thx. Like I said to each his/her own.observer wrote:TheJet

It was interesting to see all the comments. What I like about the YHH site is that they update the rankings all the time, whereas Myhockeyrankings does it once a week. I also like that YHH ranks more ages and levels. The thin I don't like is that it does not seem that their score recording is as accurate. I think in part this has to do with not being able to enter the scores from their website because it gives you an error message. I have also noticed when the score is recorded for one team it is not always recorded for the other team, and it is the same game. Sometimes Myhockeyrankings doesn't look as accurate because they hold the pending games for a week until they re-run the rankings on Wednesday. I think YHH has the better product if they figured out a way to get most of the scores recorded accurately. IMHO. I still want to thank YHH for having a good product for everyone.

Thanks HG.
For anyone who is having trouble entering scores (getting error message). Here is a private link that bypasses everything:
http://63.232.89.149/hh/YHH_login.aspx
I'll look into the no scores for some teams issue..that's the first I've heard. and trust me if there is an issue - I hear about it (this is youth hockey after all).
Best,
TS

I like when people get all excited over rankings - Just remember there is only one ranking that really matters and it won't be out until the season is over. If your child's team is not ranked or not ranked as high as you think they should be that should motivate the team. Don't whine - go play. The #1 team in College Football - The Fighting Irish - were not even in the top 25 in the AP poll and were #24 in the USA today poll to start the season. Just my opinion they won't finish number 1 either, but they are #1 right now.
