YHH Early Season Bantam and PeeWee Rankings

Post by YouthHockeyHub »

Until the data flushes itself out, here a stab at the Bantam and PW rankings this week. Bantams seemed harder to rank than PWs this week.

PeeWee: http://youthhockeyhub.com/the-hub/the-h ... ewees/#p33

Enjoy,

Tony, I seem to recall that you described what the ranking formula at YHH was going to be. It seems like this year you aren't making the same plea for rankers to join, um, the ranks. Is there some new formulae this year, or is it just a popularity contest? You should post your method somewhere at YHH, don't you think?

What can you tell us about how you reach your current set of rankings, and how teams with one or two games against unknown and unranked opponents are ending up in the top five this early in the season???

Sartell PWBs, for example. They've beat River Lakes once, tied them once, and beat Monticello. And they're ranked #1, 9 places above Edina, who have a monstruous 6+ AGD in 9 undefeated games against some of the best associations in the state?

I probably missed the early season disclaimer somewhere... Love the site, just want a peak behind the curtain here.

Thanks shin,

Yes, no RANKERS this year. By jan 1 last year the RANKERS threw the formula off to much. Guys would enter their team and 9 bad teams to drive their teams rankings up. Buh-bye RANKERS.

This years formula is very similar to a pair wise and rpi formula. Your winning pct, opponents win pct, opponents opponents win pct, head to head comp, and recency of games played (I.e. a game in February worth more than a game in October).

In hindsight we should not have published rankings for teams with less than 5 games played...those teams kill the rankings.

For now, please just use the database for team comparisons. The peewee and bantam teams will pretty well flushed out by dec 1.

Along with a great story I see your latest rankings scrolling the bottom of the video. Much more on par than the other sites out there so far!! Nice to see a more valid effort.

PWAA - Edina, South, Way, DE, Tonka, EV, GR, WBL, Prior, OMG

The real rankings are scrolling on the bottom of this video u12, bantam, and pw A.

Plenty of data for me and a few buds from all over MN to compile these rankings prior to our formula to kicking in. As most know, the northern teams are just starting to play games, once they hit 5 or so games, the formula is solid. We tested it with last years bantam data, week by week and it is spot on (I think more realistic than my hockey rankings formula - placing huge emphasis on the recent games versus one played in months passed).

Happy TG to everyone out there
