AA/A Feedback
How are the schedules working out? Is MNH still planning on having Elk River's AA team play their own A team and Chisago Lake's A team play Centennial's AA team?
How's it going outstate for scheduling? Sound like it's been tough in many of the districts.
Are the A teams able to get into the big AA tournaments.

What I've seen so far is our A team is in a great spot when playing other A teams in districts where they field both A and AA. We field both AA and A in our association. We have 9 1st yr guys so it is outstanding development for them. To be honest with you I'm sure there is apprehension on any AA's part to play A teams as they might lose and risk embarrassment or conversely beat that A team into the ice and that's not good either. So you're kind of left with this " figuring out who you can play and be successful". We are all in this mode at the moment. Who can we play and make sure that it's going to be a good close game...All good stuff, just need to gut it out and hope the boys develop throughout the season.

If I was a AA coach that is what I would want my A coach to do...then you have a more experienced AA team the following year. I guess you can look at it like Varsity/JV now.Toomuchtoosoon wrote:I am hearing some big associations are passing over a lot of 2nd years in favor of 1st years for the A team. Don't believe that was the intent, be a development tool for the AA team.
Did somebody say they needed a Towel ??

You're exposing the ugliness of the politics in association Hockey.Towelie wrote:If I was a AA coach that is what I would want my A coach to do...then you have a more experienced AA team the following year. I've also been hearing about Peewee A teams with 8-12 first years on them.
What are the tryouts for with this way of thinking?
Another one of those....should have thought about that before they went that direction. Same with Minnesota Hockey and the suspension issues with the checking from behind/boarding/head contact thing they just through out a month after tryouts.MrBoDangles wrote:You're exposing the ugliness of the politics in association Hockey.Towelie wrote:If I was a AA coach that is what I would want my A coach to do...then you have a more experienced AA team the following year. District 16 - mandated that AA plays A.MrBoDangles wrote:How are the schedules working out? Is MNH still planning on having Elk River's AA team play their own A team and Chisago Lake's A team play Centennial's AA team?

District Directors ONLY discussed this policy.Towelie wrote: Another one of those....should have thought about that before they went that direction. It is not a MH thing. If certain districts are using it, that is up to them.
District 16 does not use it, nor do many based on the conversations the directors have had.
Interesting...the top of the letter states Minnesota Hockey. Seems to me there is a lot of confusion going around about this and not everything is on the same page....go figure.elliott70 wrote:District Directors ONLY discussed this policy.Towelie wrote: Another one of those....should have thought about that before they went that direction. Bo
In answer to your question from what I understand all "A" Bantam and "A" Peewee teams will play each other once with a second game within their division(AA/A), as was the format last year.
I also believe that the suspension for Checking from Behind has not changed for Mn Hockey. There are at least 2 Districts that have tougher penalties. District 2 has for a number of years added 1 more game suspension for any District 2 player receiving a Game Misconduct and the new District 6 policy is on another thread. I also read somewhere that a any coach in District 10 receiving 2 Game Misconducts is suspended until a hearing is held. I believe that started last year.

Yes--D10 is doing the unbalanced schedule--AA and A play each other once.MrBoDangles wrote:How are the schedules working out? Is MNH still planning on having Elk River's AA team play their own A team and Chisago Lake's A team play Centennial's AA team?

A DQ is a high school hockey term,or in the Jr Gold classification.
Mn Hockey eliminated the 2 minute minor and a 10 minute misconduct. Leaving a 5 minute major and a game misconduct or a match, USA Hockey playing rule 608
If Mn Hockey changed the 2 minute minor to a 5 minute minor plus a 10 minute misconduct I have not viewed that part of their change.

Hockey guy
A game DQ and a Game Misconduct are 2 different items. In Mn Hockey a game DQ removes a player from just the remainder of that game and the player is eligible to play in the next game. The Jr Gold level has this and also a District or 2. If a Jr Gold player gets 3 penalties is also given a Game DQ or a Referee can just DQ a player at any time during a game.
A Game Misconduct the player is removed for the rest of the game and is also suspended for the next scheduled league game or tournament game.

Any Game Misconduct by USA Hockey rules is a 1 game suspension. Additional penalties can be assessed a player using rule 410. The above discussion was additional game suspensions for a game misconduct, this has been done on a District by District basis and was a proposal presented to Mn Hockey.
Can there be additional game suspensions for a Check from Behind and that will happen when a Match Penalty is called for a Check from Behind and a hearing is then held or if no hearing after 30 days the player is reinstated.

I'm hoping our association will add a BB level next season. Possibly BB1 and BB2 and maybe BB3. The goal is to make sure every game is completely balanced and hopefully a tie. Everyone loves ties.
AA - Elite

BB1
BB2

B3??
If everything goes according to plan:
- no kid will have to play C
- no kid will have to feel the humiliation of losing
- no kid will get bumped (from the front, side, or back)
Juice boxes for everyone!

I'm confused--last year checking from behind was a 5 and a 10--5 min major and 10 min misconduct. so the player was out for 15 min. Are you saying it is now a game misconduct?greybeard58 wrote:A DQ is a high school hockey term,or in the Jr Gold classification.
