9th grade changes

Post by Ssm87 »

Are there a lot of soon to be 9th graders changing schools? Which Bantam programs are going to be hurt with kids leaving to play high school or play for a different association that is located within the boundaries of their new school?

Per the rumor mill, Edina is losing two high-end bantams to SSM, along with their dads who were the bantam A coaches. Also, at least two others are skating with the high school players this summer and may end up on varsity for the Hornets. This coming after the PWA team was a disappointment last season. Edina's Bantam AA team could be the weakest in years.

Not sure who you're talking about other than 23. Dornbach will still be the head coach.

Bad rumor then. I heard from a usually unreliable source that Dornbach was leaving too.

Right - and I have heard of no ninth graders making an impact at the HS skates. There is no Malmquist or Walker in this group.

C-dad: The Edina Pee-Wee A team was a disappointment? 16 losses out of 55 games? #5 ranked team virtually all season. Aside from the "politics" that likely allowed some of undersized guys on the squad, I'd say your expectations have become unrealistic.

Edina folks wonder why everyone hates them. I mean a NOT disappointing season could only be an undefeated State Championship season? Cake-Eater!

They don't need to be undefeated, they just need to win State!

Back to back state titles and a handful of Fire guys added and they only ranked 5th? One man's successful season is a Cake Eater's disappointment.

I thought they had a top notch crop of whacked out parents though? Gotta be the best at something.

And I think was pretty clear the Fire was far overrated!

The Fire kids were very skilled and talented, and IMO a notch above most of the others on the Edina A squad. I think the Edina PW A were disappointing because they never really jelled and played up to their potential. A lot of their play left me scratching my head... a lot of risky, selfish plays that left them wide open to transition chances. I thought the young goalies were so-so. They are both returning this year, and should be improved.

With tryouts over, who left or is expected to leave Bantams for HS? Any 8th graders?

High school tryouts start on Nov. 12 so it's still a bit premature to know who all will be moving to high school. However, several bantam eligible players apparently chose not to tryout for their local associations. Based on rumors, I've heard that the following associations have kids moving onto high school programs: Farmington, Burnsville, Blaine, Roseville, Spring Lake Park, Shakopee, Wayzata, Mounds View, and Maple Grove. I'm guessing that there will be others who leave after high school tryouts are complete.

Looks like the following bantam teams lost eligible kids,

Roseville - 2 (Hill Murray)
Wayzata - 1 (Wayzata)
Burnsville - 1 (Benilde)
Rosemount -1 (Burnsville)
Maple Grove - 1 (Benilde)
Spring Lake Park - 2 (Breck and SLP)
Rogers - 1 (Rogers)
Minnetonka - 1 (Blake)
Minneapolis Storm - 1 (Blake)
Looks like Blake moved up a few kids from their Bantam program
Farmington - 3 (Farmington)

Edina did not lose any to HS this year.

Chisago lost 4 or 5 that's why their A team folded--Blaine also lost 3-4

Woodbury lost 7...2 to each to Woodbury, East Ridge and Hill, 1 to SPA; an 8th went to Shattuck prior to last season. That said, they still have teams at AA, A and B1.

Does anyone have a sense if the amount of players playing HS with Bantam eligibility is higher this year than in past years? or is this about normal?
