The summer can be a big time for teams to see what numbers they have coming back with their seniors graduating and see what they have. I was in Red Wing today watching games and as I see it, arguably the best 3 teams in class A were there, Breck, South Saint Paul, and Red Wing. Red Wing beat South Saint Paul in the first game, it was 4 to 2 I believe. IMO, why wouldn't more teams be doing this? It is a great way for coaches and players to not only see what they have but what other teams have. With Breck winning state last year, it is obvious they will come back strong. South Saint Paul is always good and have some good fowards returning, and Red Wing has 3 girls on it who made the National Development team. What other teams have even potiential in class A this year, other than Warroad?

I think almost all teams do, but they don't feel the need to publicize it on a forum. It's summer hockey, you can't read too much into it, as you don't know who's who on the ice, and which team has any players there that will be playing for them in the winter. My guess is most of these summer scrimmages they don't call penalties or have special teams, and most coaches don't do much systems work, it's just skill development. With that said I don't see to many major changes to the Class A landscape, the teams that have been good the last couple years will still be good. Warroad, Breck, Blake, SSP.

The organization of summer scrimmages consist of the coach sending out an email (sometimes an urgent email) to find out who can play in the scrimmage. Then the coaches scramble to put together lines minutes before the face-off. The teams consist of a combination of varsity and JV kids. I have a son and daughter playing high school hockey - this is true for both kids.

It is not realistic to base regular season predictions on summer hockey. I would guess this is true for most hockey programs.

This information is correct. I would also point out that Red Wing does not yet have any players on the National Development Team. They have 3 players that attended the National Development Camp, but have not been selected to any "team".
