Next up, Stars & Stripes

Spent a good chunk of the day at BIG watching some portion of several games. Some lopsided scores and some good hockey. I thought the refereeing was pretty weak all day. One game this morning the refs didn't call a couple of hits that could have been boarding and then the last game I saw was the Bauer Selects against the Blades at the 02 level. Refs totally lost control. Two Selects kids should have been tossed. One kid was called for checking (should have been boarding) and as he skated to the box he waved his arms over his head ala Matt Kassian. Same kid later was called for another checking call and at least this time he received a 5 min major and a misconduct. To top it off, with less than 5 seconds left and down by three goals one of the Selects went Raffi Torres on a Blades kid and delivered a flying elbow to the Blades kids head. Totally classless. Refs were indifferent most of the game. Selects coach was a joke and the kids were as bad as their coach. Total embarrassment. Minnesota Made needs to upgrade the reffing and the Selects need to get a new coach. I would never let my kid play for a buffoon like that guy. If it rains again tomorrow, will be back for some more hockey. Hopefully the refs have a better day.
Watched the 02 Blades beat Euro American 7-3. Euro was up with 1:30 left in the 2nd period..but the Blades were just too big and strong. On the other hand, I heard from a parent that the 02 Euro team has 4 2003 players on it and were missing 3 of their players for the game. If that's the case, Euro is a definite team on the rise.

Wow. I wasn't too far off. Machine won 03, 01, 00 for sure. I thought the Blades would win the 02 but were stuck in a very strong pool which if you didn't win your division screwed you for the wildcard.Pylon wrote:For the most part Minnesota teams had a good showing in Chicago, now its time for the Stars & Stripes.
Whos your pick for all the ages.....
03 - I give the Machine the edge here (i think Manitoba may be strong as well)
02 - Blades have to be considered the favorites after a strong showing last wknd (some unknowns like BC, Sask etc)
01 - Machine
00 - Machine
99 - tough one..Machine maybe??
98 - Not familar with this group.

The JR Jets vs Blades game was pretty impressive. The Jets were the dominant team but the Blades played them hard. It was a very fast game. The boy from the North is a great player for sure and blends in well with the rest of the Jets team. it also goes to show you the quality of other players out there. It is very hard to stand out at this level!mnhockey2019 wrote:Agreed. No weak links with the Jr. Jets. I saw parts of two of their games, was surprised that their player from south of the 49th parallel wasn't more of an impact.HockeyDad41 wrote:the best team won the tournament

Call it whatever you want Bo, at least Bernie allows any team to enter his tourney. You can`t say that about the Blades. The Walleye Chop is hand picked and usually no Minnesota teams unless the Blades are able to beat them. Stars and Stripes is the only Minnesota tourney that brings in some of the top teams across North America, and allows local Minnesota teams to play them. Walleye Chop is a Kum Ba Yah weekend.

I'm just the messenger. Heard there were plenty of unhappy people at the 02' level that traveled a long ways.2112 wrote:MrBoDangles wrote:Home cooked was the word.Pylon wrote:Too bad there couldn't have been more pairity in the pools in the 02 division. You Gotta be kidding me.... you have not watched much 10 year old hockey if you think it is hard to stand out at this level. There are tons of kids that were like Gretter at this level taking a no name team to a chip by scoring tons of goals. It is very easy to stand out at this level!!!black sheep wrote:very very true. one of the best things about tournaments like these!!Pylon wrote: It is very hard to stand out at this level!

maybe in an open event but very rarely do you see a kid standout greatly above his level at the top AAA tournaments and certainly one kid is not taken the team to the "chip"
