The U is easily more expensive. Benilde's website says high school tuition next year will be $12,600 (and 17% of Benilde students get some financial aid). According to this from the U (http://onestop.umn.edu/pdf/tuition_ugrad_2011-12.pdf), a semester's tuition if you carry 13 or more credits is $5,825; throw in program fees, books, and the cost of living on campus, and I'm guessing you're topping $20,000 a year.

I can tell you for sure that the U of M is much more expensive than BSM, if your kid lives on campus, as most choose to do. If that's the case, figure on close to double, or more if it's the Carlson School.Django wrote:Benilde tuition does not cover room and board, so don't add that into the estimate of the cost of the U.
I would be pretty sure that the UofM tuition is less than Benildes $12,000.

High school kids are presumably living with their parents and don't have to pay for lodging/food, but almost all U students live on campus now, so I don't know that you can really ignore that. And it's not a wash, as housing a student on campus costs more than housing your child in the house that you already have.Django wrote:Benilde tuition does not cover room and board, so don't add that into the estimate of the cost of the U.

And the website I gave earlier is an official U of M site which pretty clearly says tuition is $5,825 a semester, which gets you very close to Benilde's $12,600 for a full year; tuition is not all you pay at the U, though, as there are costs and fees (the student service fee includes $25 a semester, I think, to pay for TCF Bank Stadium), in addition to books, so even if you exclude housing the U still costs more.

I can confirm that the tuition for each semester is $5,825, so that would be $11,650 per year. But on top of that they charge a whole slew of fees, and you have to pay for textbooks and other supplies. On our most recent statement for the the Spring Semester these added up to $2,545.47 (times 2 = $5,091). So without any Room & Board the total cost comes to $16,741. Still cheaper than most private schools, but the gap is narrowing.
If Christian Horn is not getting any financial aid his first year hopefully he plays well enough to earn at least a partial the rest of the way.

And it depends on which school at the UMN. The General College might cost that much, but I assure you that the Carlson School of Management and other schools are more.xy wrote:High school kids are presumably living with their parents and don't have to pay for lodging/food, but almost all U students live on campus now, so I don't know that you can really ignore that. No need to apologize. As they say, the memory is the second thing to goJDUBBS1280 wrote:Sorry, I guess that dates meMNHockeyFan wrote:A long time ago!keepyourheadup wrote:If I'm not mistaken general college has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

But back to topic, I'm really looking forward to seeing Christian wearing the Maroon and Gold. Whatever the costs and however much scholarship he did or didn't get, you can't put a price tag on it whenever a young man is following his dream.
