Seems to me they compiled the whole group of district teams and looked at their performance overall rather than within each three team competition... Not quite what I understood going into this past weekend???woodstick wrote:Obscurely is right. District 15 is #2 seed from seeding games last weekend but gets placed in red pool.skills_coach1 wrote:Brackets posted.... obscurely I might add....

Pretty cut and dry from the structure guidelines:skills_coach1 wrote:

Phase 3 Completed by April 21-22, 2012 Seeding Game Weekend
Four divisions of three teams each play a round robin preliminary two game schedule. The top two finishers in each division are seeded into an eight-team bracket with each team playing three games.
How can you look at performance overall and compare that to other districts?! Guidelines are guidelines and should be followed....wait, politics?

In reality though, does it really matter? The individual team performance(s) really shouldn't affect the status of the individual player "tryout". After all, the purpose is to evaluate the individuals... Yes I realize the level of competition is different to some extent, but, if the true purpose is to narrow down from 240 kids to 102, they want to see them play in a game environment. Maybe politics play a role.. No clue here... I was just saying that was how it looked as far as overall pool vs three team pools.. I dunno...

All the teams from the preliminary East group (5, 10, and 11) made it to bracket play. D11 split their two games beating D10 and losing to D5. D5 and D10 played noon Sunday and I don't know the results of that game.
For some reason, D15 was either placed in the 4 team pool or opted to play in the four team pool to avoid a Friday night game and its associated travel costs. Still, on the Minnesota Hockey site all participants knew in advance that there could be a Friday game.
Perhaps somebody involved in the seeding could explain the change and why a team from the East group was chosen to replace the D15 team?

Yes, it does matter when it is clearly stated the process. This really sends a bad message by Minnesota hockey. I think it is safe to say it is common knowledge that the scouts etc. don't watch the red pool as much.
Believe me, 15 did not opt to play in the 4 team pool.frederick61 wrote:

Associated travel costs, are you kidding me? The kids were told they need to attend a mandatory meeting Friday night.
Staying an extra night is nothing when you have to travel 1-2 hours for ice time during spring/summer.
Yes, an explanation would be nice.

If D15 did opt out, then somebody seeded them against the rules laid out by Minnesota Hockey and Reebok. That person needs to come forward and explain why? The only plausible excuse left is it is an error if D5 was the #3 seed in the East group and somebody transposed the "1" (changing D5 to D15). If it is an error, it needs to be corrected.
