Rick O'Shay wrote:So what did Coach "L" have to say in his post game wrap up? "Well I have to thank the Hill Murray Youth Hockey Association for giving me such a talented group of players to work with!" or was it "Our community is very proud of their boys and how they put their hearts on the line day in and day out!"

Well all I know for sure is after Maple Grove's first trip to State I think it's safe to add their players, parents, fans, and pretty much their entire city to the WE HATE PRIVATE SCHOOLS FAN CLUB!!!

Might I make one suggestion. Why doesn't HM have all their players wear the logo of the youth association they came from on their shoulder so some of these associations (Mahtomedi, Princeton, North St Paul, Woodbury, White Bear Lake, etc, etc, etc...) could get some props for developing these kids. I mean WHAT the NHL All Stars wear their teams logo on their jerseys. Just thinking out loud!!!!!!!!!
LOL.

I love it when the rich western burbs go down; they always throw the biggest "Teh Catholic Schoolz Sukz" pissy fits.

Sadueche4. Never said they had to go to public school. Just pointing out the facts. Many kids grow up playing together in their respective associations with the dream of making it to the State Tourney with their childhood friends (ie Maple Grove) others migrate to private schools (for the education) and make new friends that also love to play hockey and typically are very talented (ie HM). Apparently you are over sensative to the subject so lets just leave the obvious alone.

What about private school kids that never went to public schools with their friends, but they just played association hockey together? No player ever grows up dreaming to play for a private school? Ever??

Really great point. I live on a decent sized pond and several of the young kids that live around the pond create rinks and play almost every day. I've gone out and skated a few times with them. Almost all of them, and I mean 8 out of 10, are decked out in Hill Murray gear. These kids range from 5 to 13. By the way, this is in WBL. I'm sure a couple of these kids will end up playing for HM and I'm sure someone 10 years from now is going to be complaining that these kids were 'stolen' from the community, their association, etc etc etc blah blah blah

Let's go by your system and take Koop, Steman, and Aspinwall off of Maple Grove's roster. Even in your own "association" there are kids that didn't play youth for MG but play high school hockey for MG. Let's take away those three and see how well Maple Grove does. Youth hockey is about 10% of a players development. 90% of the work is done in the off season, so regardless of the association, if a player has the skills and puts in the work in the offseason, they will be good regardless of the association.

Anyone know what was said or anything about it that was there?
Some profanity, but nothing you don't hear out of 216 every single game here. Maybe I'm used to it, but I didn't think it was awful.

BlueLineSpecial I guess the big question is are they any good? Otherwise this should be a non issue in 10 years!

Relax Private Schoolers - just trying to ruffle your feathers. If the little traders want to run off to something bigger and better have at it.

Some are great, yeah. Very impressive skaters, but I'm probably not a great judge of talent when it comes to kids that age. I just know they skate circles around me

I can see both sides of the debate. I just enjoy this whole time of the year. This is my March Madness

Damn even this thread turned into people bitching about private schools. I do feel bad for all those underprivileged kids in the west metro though...

Well first of I'd like to congratulate the Hill Murray Hockey team for a great win against a very good team. It's too bad it had to end this way for all the hardcore MG fans.

I'd also want to put a shout out to all the MG players and coaches. Thanks for the great year so far!!!! :D :D :D

Keep your heads held high because MG finally made it to the state tourney. It wasn't the best outcome but it is what it is. Your done yet so go to Mariucci and play hard!!!

As for all the people whining about private schools get over it already. Nobody likes a sore loser...

Go Crimson!!!

Exactly. Hill has just as much of a community, possibly more, than these newer suburbs like MG and Lakeville. I'd say about half the students at Hill are second generation Pioneers. Some kids are coming in third generation now. Many of my classmates' parents were friends with my parents when they went there. Obviously not all privates schools are like this, but Hill (and Cretin) certainly are.

Best of luck to Maple Grove next year. I wish them nothing but the best in continuing to build their program.

I would love to know where this pond is. I live in WBL and have never seen a pond of HM clothes on any of the young kids. I have seen St. Mary's, St. Pius, and other private grade school clothing on kids, but its a rare site to see young kids (under grade 9) with HM clothes on.
