Benilde up 3-1 after 2, and shots are in their favor by a comfortable margin.
Tonka just looks a bit off in many facets of the game. The passing has been poor, they've been caught offsides many times, and they've struggled to establish their forecheck. That's allowing Benilde forwards to go up and down the ice and show off their prodigious talent. The big ice sheet seems to be helping the Red Knights out, too. I give them credit for coming in composed and with a game plan, and also think their defense is doing noticeably better than they were at the start of the year.
Time to see if Tonka can turn it around; right now it sure looks like #2 will go down. Ciaccio has played well but that is really the only bright spot.

Very impressive win by Benilde. They came to play tonight, and cleaned up the issues that plagued them earlier in the year--sloppy defense, bad penalties. Amazing what a little discipline will do, especially when a team has that much talent. It's been an emotional roller coaster of a season for the Red Knights, and they sure earned this--I'm glad the Jack Jablonski saga will include a trip to the X. They're a dangerous team and will be in contention to win it all.
Rough night for Tonka--I was underwhelmed. They came out flat and never really made any adjustments. They did come out with some fire to start the third, but a weak fourth goal by BSM just about sealed it. This team had a very impressive season, but there were a few too many nights like tonight scattered through it. Still, congrats to this senior class on its many accomplishments (going back to the 2010 title drive). They put together some impressive showings this year, from the rout over East to some key game-winners in Lake Conference play. I'm sure the Skippers will be a force again next year.
On to game number two!

Long-time Minnetonka fans must really be frustrated by this point - it's a testament to what a strong section they've always been in that a program that's been as consistently good as they have been has that few state tournament appearances as they do over the past 30 years. (Cue the complaining about Section 1, I guess . . . ).
Just go back to my post when they played Tonka the 1st time. Those of you that didn't think Benilde would win the section need to do their homework. Like I said early in the year they were getting their systems set and they were going to be up and down until late in the year. KP out coached Urick and Benilde with a grteat system and top end players made Tonka look really bad.
Great season by Tonka but they just lost to a better team.

The Red Knights capture section 6AA
February 29, 2012 — Benilde St. Margaret's became the first team in the state to earn a bid to the State tournament next weekend. They did so by beating the Minnetonka Skippers 5-1.
The Red Knights got off to a fast start scoring 2:24 into the game. Zack Hale got the go ahead goal. Than 4:07 later Jake O'Borsky got what eventually would be the game winning goal. The Skippers didn't get on the board until the 8:35 mark of the 1st and that eventually would be their lone goal. That goal was scored by Sam Rothstein.
Jake O'Borsky led the Knights in scoring with 2 goals. Christian Horn had a goal and an assist in the game.
The Knights will be in St. Paul next week for the Class AA tournament. This marks their first appearance since 2008 when they captured 3rd place that year. This also marks the third time Benilde will be going to state. They have made it twice while in Class AA and they made state once as a member of Class A back in 1999.
Jack Jablonski was on the ice at the end for the team hand shake and received a standing ovation.
Minnetonka ended their season with a 24-4 record.
Benilde goes into state with a 23-5 record.

Tonka vs. B-SM
Didn't see that one coming
Bad night for bb's 2nd favorite team. B-SM won the races to the pucks, exposed the Tonka D all night long and had the better quality chances.
This may be the end of a good Tonka run with only 5 sophomores in the entire HS program and a below average bantam team right behind them.
Congrats RedKnights go rep Section 6 at State...
