This cheer is always corrrect during the playoffs, because whoever loses, their season is over. And if I recall correctly, they were facing the WBL bench when chanting the cheer.Tornadoes 2003StateChamps wrote:Johnson, way to put your heart and soul into a game and come back and beat the Bears. 10 years from now, you'll look back on this game and recall "remember when....." Tough loss to the Bears but your fans may want to stop cheering "seasons over" - Talk about carma!

It was hardly one sided. Keep in mind, WBL scored one on a blown offside call after Johnson cleared the zone, and they scored another one from behind the net when the kid between the pipes made a mistake scrambling around. Give those two goals back and it's 3-1. Shots (although not a clear indicator of controlling a game), were pretty close to even, and most of the game was actually played along the boards, and Johnson did a good job of keeping the Bears out there.
I'd probably agree that WBL controlled the puck for a better part of the game, but if the thought is that they did great things with it when they had it, that's false. It was not a "dominant" performance by any means.

Come on. Johnson had a flurry of shots in the first couple of minutes to start the game, and a bunch of shots at the end to tie it up. In between, they managed about 7 shots. This second period was so one sided, that Johnson had a couple of power plays, and the Bears were setting up their offense in the Johnson zone with only 4 skaters.PaynePhalenGuy wrote:It was hardly one sided. It was a great comeback and win by Johnson, but it was not a very exciting game to watch, until the last 4 minutes and overtime.

Fair enough. It certainly wasn't 51 minutes of the greatest hockey ever played, but I think to a lot of people (primarily Johnson and Hill-Murray fans
), seeing a massive underdog storm back to stage a furious rally like they did is pretty exciting.
You're rarely going to find a game where every minute you're saying "that's incredible" to the play on the ice. You usually walk away talking about those handful of great plays, a few arguments about this call or that call, and a whole lot of "if we had done this differently, then..."
This game had all of that.

Moose will do whatever he can to keep the program a float. The Govies have a shot, but falling behind by multiple goals again may not be the best plan of action...."and stop calling me Shirley".Govie wrote:Moose is on record saying the program is going to continue for the foreseeable future.
As far as me, I left the game early and really am kicking my ass for doing so. At least I get to watch them tomorrow at the Coliseum. Surely they could win that game also.

If you don't think a furious four goal comeback in six minutes after a one sided 45 minutes followed by an outstanding game winning goal isn't one of the most exciting games one could attend YOU live a sheltered life.BodyShots wrote:Chris, you live a sheltered life? How can you call a one sided game for 45 minutes the best hockey game you've ever been at?ChrisK wrote:And I have to say it was one of the best hockey games I've ever been at, given the situation with Johnson and the amazing comeback.
And the context is important, this was Johnson making the comeback. Seeing Edina do this against Eden Prairie wouldn't be quite as exciting because we all know most Edina teams could do it whereas this was Johnson, a team that rarely even wins a playoff game. And it was against White Bear Lake, who may be having a down year but is still one of the premier programs in the state.
There's also the situation with the Johnson program itself with the questions of whether this would be their last game ever.
A game like this is the reason I go to these high school games, to walk away saying 'I don't believe what I just saw' and feel the need to call and text friends about it from the parking lot.
It's hard to win when you always lose.
