That comment is absurd, even from a non Machine guys perspective. Bernie has to do whats in the best interest of the team, not just a few individuals on the team. If parents sign up for their kids to play on the Machine knowing full well that the program runs right until August with tournaments through the month of June how could they expect their little Johnny to abandon the Machine team to play for the Brick team for a month? What about the other Machine kids on the team? Do they just sit back and take a month off while some of their teammates play for the Blades in June? C'mon man!fanofthegame11 wrote:A little history for the non psychotic folks on the board. One of the reasons this year's Brick team is going as Team Minnesota is to make it easier for Machine kids to try out and potentially make the squad. In the past, Mr. McBain has told his Machine families he will cut them if they try out for The Brick team and god forbid make the team. Frankly this is ridiculous. The Brick tourney is the best 10 year old tournament in North America and it isn't close. If Mr. McBain truly cares about the development of his players, he would not threaten to cut them because they want to participate in the tryout process and possibly make the team. It is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and if your son is one of the best 2002's in the state of Minnesota then he should have the opportunity to play at The Brick regardless of AAA affiliation. Mr. McBain runs a business and I get that but he should release his top 2002's if they are truly the best in the state.
The Brick roster is totally separate from The Blades roster. The Blades' organization has the exclusive right to participate in the tourney but to make it easier for Machine kids to participate, the team is going as Team Minnesota this year. Hope to see some Machine kids there. It would be a great thing for Minnesota hockey.

I thought Bernie had a couple of teams @ each level. So if a couple kids make the Brick team, Then you just fill in. Right??? We are talking about little kids here right? Give me and them a break!!!! You act like these kids have signed contracts, Think about what your saying. They ARE NOT PRO. Not even highschool. Just little kids playing summer hockey.
I agree there needs to be time off. Don't think though that summer hockey is actually some of these kids choices and not their parents. I do know that in a lot of cases its parents pushing kids to continue playing but thats not always the case.old goalie85 wrote:I thought Bernie had a couple of teams @ each level. My point was regarding the shot on Bernie. People make a choice who they play with. Their decisions should from there on in should always put that team first.

Hats off to the Blades for going as Team Minnesota and setting a schedule that makes it possible for kids from other AAA programs to participate. IMO just exemplifies what a classy organization the Blades are.
Time will tell if Bernie allows Machine skaters to participate or not. His decision will either confirm his critics in that nothing is bigger then Bernie, or show that he can see the tree's thru the forest. kids missing a 1 - 1 1/2 monthwindow out of what a 6-8 year carrer of AAA summer hockey is a very small window.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for 10 year old kids to represent the state of Minnesota. IMO missing a month of team play is very small in comparison.
It appears there may be hope in that the adults of Minnesota Hockey can see thier way to send our best to compete against the best in north america!

The Machine players will not be skating with the Blades. It does matter if they change their name to Team Minnesota does not matter it still the Blades. The only chance that they would had Bernie coach. If it really is a Minnesota team why wouldn't you ask him to coach? He has the strongest program in the state.
Why would Bernie will do anything to help strengthen or help the Blades, the very people that slice and dice him on this forum. They are one of his biggest rivals.

Once in a lifetime is right. How many times can you spend $8000 on a trip to Canada to come in last place. Last year it was all about the coaches kids. Talk about sitting players. Just ask Blades families that went last year.
-Tons of money
-Crappy ice, never freezes because it is under a glass dome. Scrapping water
-nothing but poor finishes since the 97 team.
-financing the coaches trip
-get to sit on the bench and watch the coaches kids play
Once in a life time is right. One would ever do it again.

You Blades people don't get it, the 02 Machine families love the guy. They are not going anywhere. They love their team. Some of these post are crazy, and you must think that they are all stupid, calling it team Minnesota is some how a change? It is still the Blades.
Oh Terry Moore is such a great guy because now he opened up to all of Minnesota out of the good of his heart. What a guy! You are the greatest!
Here is an idea why don't the Blade go with their owe team? Just an idea.

Most of you made it sounds like the Minnesota team has to be represented by those wearing orange or "Blades" uniform. Are they the best players that the land of hockey can offer?
Some of those players are not that good ... no match to some plays on the so called 2nd tier teams. Just an observation, perhaps!
Yeah ... it is an open try-out ... bet the rink would be flooded with orange and blades logo all over.

I have to think that w/the entire state of Mn. [without machine kids] We can put together a VERY nice team. Is the Brick team picked already?? I know one family that has a house rented for the week.[sounds like a smart idea to me] Yet I know two other kids fgrom forest Lake going down to tryout.[25.00] What happens if 20 kids show up that are better than the coaches kids ??? Anyone?? Terry???

Oh! and the machine teams are all about community? People with big egos.... on both sides of the isles. I love how this debate heats up every year...chew them up wrote:People remember the Blades are all about the Blades! Every time Terry Moore can pat himself on the back he does.
Let them sink or swim with their own players. Good luck Blades

Agreed, the blades and machine do have good programs, as they get and HELP develop good hockey players, cuz the players are pretty good to begin with. That being said, I know a few kids on the blades and machine 02 teams, and I know for a fact a my sons AAA team has a few kids that are equal or better then those kids. And it's fair to say other teams top kids could also make those teams.Mnhockeys wrote:Most of you made it sounds like the Minnesota team has to be represented by those wearing orange or "Blades" uniform. Point being there are a lot of great hockey players in this state that don't play on those teams for many reasons.
It's too bad the blades can't hire a non parent coach for a month to put a true brick team together with the 17 of the best kids they can find that are willing to make that sacrafice to play.
Remember northern MN has some great hockey players, some of which can out play any kid on both the machine and blades. But proximity keeps them from playing on the brick team.
Hopefully the blades don't bring bring 3/4 of their team to the brick and fill in the third line with a few other kids, because the result will be like years past.

Thats good to here. Its hard to find coaches that dont have kids playing that have that kind of time to coach a team. Everyone wants non parent coaches, but fact of the matter is without parent coaches there would be no coaches at all.JoltDelivered wrote:The head coach of the 02 Brick team is a non-parent coach.

Team Minnesota? New Name and same old story. Blades team with a few new guns from who knows where. Two kids from Wisconsin Flyers already on Brick Team. Team has been picked since end of last AAA season. Tryouts just for show and money maker.
Classic Blades development from last season. 02' team goes 0-5 in Winnipeg. By the time Caribou rolls around. Line up modified and they skate 13 skaters. Few 9 year olds sitting at home wondering what happened. Same kids and families that were recruited and told they would be able to play in the Brick, now off team. Lost to the Orange in Championship in close game.
I do find it strange, that the Blades constantly pull this crap, and still don't win. Even if they did win by bringing in these "tournament players", is it worth it to hurt reputation on program? I guess the Blades are above it.
