Within the metro, there are certainly some talented kids that stay and play for their local high schools, but there are also a load of them that choose the educational experience of a private school, or the educational experience of a public school with a tradition of winning. Of those kids that choose that experience, the best almost always choose the AA schools over the A schools - if they intend to prove they are the best, they have to play with and against the best. I agree with Bo; I don't think (for the best youth players) it'll be any different.
If he really is from Coon Rapids, he should be getting out of there soon just like the others who went to Blaine. We are have a great time. I'll send you a postcard from the State Tournament
It's that type of attitude that creates this problem--instead of trying to be part of the solution--you are part of the problem. I will be interested to see how many go onto the next level of hockey.. probably 1. I guess the end justify the means--at least in your mind.
Problem??

It will only compound more now.....

This whole A/AA split is a joke. D10 took it on to make the little guys feel good about playing at the A level even tho teams like Mora/Coon Rapids/Camb-Isanti wouldn't even make a good B team. How good do you feel now with a fist full of wins between all three teams?

Just wait till next year when the whole state goes this way and everyone gets a trophy for playing. "Great job little Johnny - you played like crap - the team lost by 12 goals, but you are playing A hockey".

From the outside looking in - is that what we get from you loveitorleaveit?

How about someone in D10 where this has taken place this year.
What would you change about it before it gets put in place next year in MN?

Changes for A/AA for district 10 next year

A teams play each other twice

AA play each other twice

Then open schedule for rest of teams all year. No need for Elk River, Andover, Blaine, Centennial, Anoka, CP and Rogers to play "A" teams.

If a District 10 or any "A" team for that matter wants to play a "AA" team then call them up and schedule a game. No need for district to force 8-rip 10-rip games on either team.

I don't like the idea of tying youth team placement to high school size as they have nothing to do with one another. Youth Association strength is entirely based on solid recruiting and nothing more. This is more of this we’re better than you which is really stupid. You're not better than anyone. I also see, as an example, that you list Blaine as AA but Blaine is at the bottom of the D10 PeeWee standings behind Irondale. Maybe they should be forced to play single A next year until they get their stuff together.

Call the teams whatever you want - A, AA, AAA, XXX if you like; it boils down to a few dozen associations forcing everyone else to play B hockey.

Forest Lake will more than likely be playing in the new "A"(B-1) level. Might get lucky and be able to schedule a game, or two, against an AA club.

A little reminder to all, the A/AA will not go into effect until District,Region and State. All Peewee and Bantam teams to qualify for either tournament must first be registered as "A" Bantam or "A" Peewee. If a smaller association or an association from an AA High school wants to register as an A Bantam or an A Peewee team they have the ability to participate in District league play same as an association that is a weak B1 team participating at the B1 level.

The mandating of Associations to field an A level team first differs from District to District. I wold believe that A registered teams will play in the respective District's A level league whether a split round or a home and home.

Forest Lake school district has the third most kids in d2. Why would they be A ???? Past records??? That seems like an odd way to do it.

Just going by Chuck Norris Fan's post of a slated 48. Where do you see the line drawn in District 2?

OK guys... HS "rating" for lack of a better term, dictates association "rating". The following txt is from the actual proposal MNHockey passed around to associations to review and.... Comment.. although, not sure what we as an association are supposed to be able to offer up....

48 teams are a joke. Limit it to 16 or 24. Anything below that is no better than a top B1 team. Minnesota hockey has become Western suburbs vs. everyone else at the youth level. Some northern teams can compete in a given year, but it is dominated by the metro. That is reality and we need to deal with it.

With a 48 team set-up, the bantam A champ next year will be Wayzata, with a 50/50 chance it is Wayzata/Edina in AA. Farmington will have players in HS, which will dilute that team.

Wayzata's 2nd tier next year are better than most associations 1st tier. Even Edina's 2nd tier will not be able to compete with them. Look at this year's B1 rankings- both Blue and Gold(a lower B1 team) are mostly 1st years with about a third of the A team being 1st years.

Go with 16 in AA and give the rest of the state a chance to compete.

Hey 0G,

Currently in D10

Cambridge-Isanti, AA HS, Playing A Bantam
Coon Rapids, AA HS, Playing A Bantam
Rogers, A HS, Playing "AA" Bantam

It all depended on the way the boards wanted to go. Probably nothing to worry about if your board feels the same way as you.

IF I was on the board, AA would be a 16 team tourney. So relax Mr. Dangle.

I think w/48 we should play AA. With 16 then A. I'm thinking towns like FL,NB,and CL would be better off combining to try to break into the 16.[If that was the case] Don't get me wrong, we have a great sports relationship with both in football/soccer/ whatever. I like being separate BUT??????????????????????

Elliot?
The criteria for playing down has not been developed.
The DD will have input to the committee.
#'s and history at that level will be factors.

Scheduling will be dependent on the local schedulers and the district.

D16 will require all A(AA) teams to play each other.

In d2 NSP,Tarten,Maht, are the only single A schools. The other six are AA Not sure about Wis. D2 may have to combine with 8 or 10.

The problem with the thought process was maintaining the integrity of the district league.

Sounds like you're saying that associations are out of the decision making process to me...... Is this true?

Could you give an example of how District 2 would be divided after taking a look at the standings? Some of the associations seem to have a great PeeWee A team and then a cellar dwellar Bantam A team - or vise versa. How will all this be worked out?

Thanks!

NO.
Local assn will make the decision where they play for play-offs AA, A or B.

They will be required to play the other A teams if they elect to play AA (in D16).

Well, not knowing D2 that well it is difficult to answer.
I will go look at the district stuff and give you my idea.

Thanks!

Pee Wee A standings
STILLWATER AA
HIGHLAND A
WHITE BEAR L AKE AA
TARTAN AA
MOUNDS VIEW AA
ROSEVILLE AA
FOREST LAKE AA
MATHTOMIDA A
NORTH ST PAUL AA

Not sure if this is correct.

If it were just me, Stillwater and White Bear Lake would be AA next year in bantams.
The balance of the AA teams could opt down if they wanted.
Perhaps Rosevill stays AA.
Opting up, I would say HIghland 'yes'.
Maht - no.

That in a two minute review.

Of ocurse, I am not very strict, giving the locals more credit than others may give them.
