The experts had me convinced they would go undefeated this season, but they didn't get it done.

Well, yeah, but do you really consider a part-time, anonymous poster on a message board an "expert"?BodyShots wrote:Mnmouth....karl(east) wrote:Which experts said East would go undefeated? Howie Hanson?MNHockeyFan wrote:Duluth East.

Agree with you Made the trip to see 2 section 7AA teams last night. Left after the first period. all I can say is Wow, something was not going right. I was at the Section game that went to Dbl OT a few years back, I was thinking some of that same fire would be present at this game. Hopefully just an off night.

I am not sure who hyped Grand Rapids before the season. I see that Follow The Puck had predicted them at less than 21 wins for the 2011-2012 season. Currently they are sitting at 14-5 won/loss record. Maybe it was the Hub pre-season ranking that got them "hyped" a bit for some hockey fans around the state. Early season rankings are often times carry over from the past season success when ranking early season top 20. Looks to me like Grand Rapids is right about where they were analyzed and predicted to be unless I am missing some sources that had them going higher than 21 wins.

With Bischoff I think Rapids beats Edina and Elk River at the Edina Classic, those were one goal games and I know he would have helped prevent a goal in each game and contributed in 1-2 goals in both. That would have put them likely at 22-3 or 21-4 at the end of the year. Seems to me even at 20-5 they lived up to some so-called hype.
As for Rapids, I think many people (myself included) thought they would be firmly entrenched in the top 10 all season. But the Bischoff injury came during a particularly tough three game stretch which caused them to drop in the rankings quite a bit, and since then they have lost the two games (East and Hermantown) that would have most helped them to rise in the rankings.
The matchup with Moorhead is by far their toughest test remaining, so if they win out, then I think they would no longer be on the disappointing team list.

Hermantown pretty much dismantled GR and Bischoff was on the ice. All over it actually.rapidsrapids wrote:With Bischoff I think Rapids beats Edina and Elk River at the Edina Classic, those were one goal games and I know he would have helped prevent a goal in each game and contributed in 1-2 goals in both. They come in at a 13.8 on SOS (Mitch Hawker) matched with Elk River. Sure would have been nice to get 2 wins at Edina Classic but it just did not happen. Still a work in progress that is why teams play the 25 games to work at getting better. Take it one game at a time and see what the playoffs bring.slyer wrote:half gr games are against class a teams you better have a good record
Scheduling nonconferenxe games against the likes of "A" schools like H-town, Marshall, Mahtomedi, and Warroad makes their schedule look weak, huh? Guess they need to dump whatever is left of the traditionof the IRC before some will respect them?slyer wrote:next 4 out of 5 are class a though, so i guess i'll say almost half is that better
It is what it is!
Slyer obviously has something against the good ol' halloween machine. Facts don't lie, whether AA or A teams they play, look at the strength of schedule. Currently 16th out of every team in the state, both AA and A. 4 of the 5 losses were to two top 5 AA teams (DE was #1 at the time), #1 ranked A team, and another top 7 AA team. Facts never lie Slyer.

It is tough to get non conference teams to travel 3 hours north to play and you also take a hit on the gate with less fans traveling that distance. The games with International Falls, Hibbing and Virginia will continue as they are good crowds, willing to play and part of conference schedule. East will not play a home and home which really would be great to book. I think we would all agree to that. Hermantown should be home and home too. Ah hell just get Denfeld, Duluth Marshall, Hermantown, Brainerd and Hibbing into section 7AA then it is back to an all north section the way it should be.

Glad you asked. Hermantown, Duluth Marshall, Denfeld, Cloquet, East, Brainerd, Rapids and Hibbing would make it an 8 team section.defense wrote:Would it make a difference if. Htown and mars were in 7aa?
Lets get some common sense, ok?
That 5A section is pretty weak for a solid program like Hermantown.
Cloquet, Grand Rapids, Roseau and Bemidji all opt up to play AA so I do not understand your reasoning for the 2 very successful programs mentioned not to consider it an option that would energize north land hockey. A legitimate hockey conference could be created too!
You must work for MSHSL where "common sense" is to have the section 7 and 8 spread out over 3 and 4 hour bus rides.
On Topic: Is Lakeville South considered a bit of a disappointment at this stage of the season?

Hermantown and Marshall moving to 2A would leave STA and Breck playing with each other for the Class A crown every single year to infinity. We can't let that happen can we?northwoods oldtimer wrote:Well Cloquet, Grand Rapids, Roseau and Bemidji all opt up to play AA so I do not understand your reasoning for the 2 very successful programs mentioned not to consider it an option that would energize north land hockey. SCC and Rogers are not exactly weak.northwoods oldtimer wrote:Glad you asked. Hermantown, Duluth Marshall, Denfeld, Cloquet, East, Brainerd, Rapids and Hibbing would make it an 8 team section.defense wrote:Would it make a difference if. Htown and mars were in 7aa?
