Mr Campion I dont have much for you right now.....
Been enjoying the Holidays as we head into a new year here is what it looks like to most.
This section is a 4 team race like always.
The favorite: Marshall- They should go undefeated in the SW Conference this year. The only thing holding them back from a #1 seed is a rematch with New Ulm in Feb however it will be in Marshall. The Tigers look for their 1st ever state appearance.
On the Rise: New Ulm Area- The eagles have been getting better and will be tough to beat come playoff time they are the two time defending champions and they will not give up this crown easily.
Falling of the Pace: LDC- a loss to St Peter does not look good as they are about to start thier Wright County Conference play. Huge Match-ups with New Ulm and Hutch to battle out for the #2,#3 and #4 seeds
Most Disappointing- Hutch- my preseason favorite has been not good. They lack scoring and they dont have the goaltending like in the past to fall back on. Already lost Marshall and New Ulm will need to at least spilt with LDC or will be stuck with a 4 seed.
THE REST OF SECTION 3A: Sorry folks but the rest of these teams are not very good and will not have an impact on this section. Good to see Worthington improving and Windom get the coaching that all of these other programs lack. But none of #5-#9 will have an impact on this section race.
This Section is wayyyyyyy DOWN...
My pick as we head to 2012: Marshall- Would be fun to see a new team make it to state and would help their youth program grow. That is my pick and I am out for now!

slow down hockey scout - marshall is on the road playing in Hutch next week - could really shake things up in this section if Hutch pulls out the win. From what I see, Marshall is up and down in every game - inconsistent...still has problems putting the puck away - no one to rely on there - young goalies too. I don't see a scoring threat for Marshall, and Hutch will bring everything they have to this game. I see a big win for Hutch next week

Marshall has been up and down, very true. But against all section teams Marshall has brought their game. They so far have been very consistent vs all section teams. Their only bad games have been against non-section opponents. So I'm gonna have to go with Marshall on Thursday.

My fault guys... This Hutch Marshall game in hutch was not on the original schedule and the last 3 or 4 years they have only played once. This must have been added just recently.
This does change alot Marshall will have to go on the road to a very tough environment. That could spell trouble. Hutch honestly should of beat them in Marshall....
Marshall has two huge games left one vs Hutch and one vs New Ulm Area.
Like I said these are just my predictions.
Huge game thursday!! What does everyoen else think....
I will take the Tigers to win!!!

Re: OH Boy! Can't wait to hear it now.
P.S., JUST because an Official has been officiating for MANY years should NOT mean that he has a free pass to just continue on. It's painfully obvious that one of them tonight should consider calling it a career (at least at HS) as the level of play has passed him by. Tarnished an otherwise competitive, enjoyable, game.fastncrash wrote:After tonights game, LET THE GREASING BEGIN!

I dont know if I would claim any team as a favorite in this section... Any time you claim a team as a favorite the go down about as fast as a bucket of KFC at Celo Green's.Iranger33 wrote:Well the favorite has fallen again. Thursday game between Hutch and Marshall now becomes a huge game for Marshall. Looks like Marshall is heading in the wrong direction.
Many people will talk about the officiating in the Marshall Luverne game. It was bad in mine as well as many other's opinions. BUT. I am not one to blame outcomes of games on officiating. Did it change the game, possibly, however it doesnt change the fact that Marshall was outhustled in the game. Is luverne better, no. Just another wacky game in section 3A. Does this game solidify luverne as a contender, I say no. Ill give it to them they hustle. THEY WILL SURPRISE YOU if you come in like marshall did expecting a cakewalk win... They forecheck pretty hard, but they arent on the same level as NU per say. Im not sure they could compete with NU hutch or even litch. When marshall did play hard and solid hockey luverne had no answer, unfortunately for marshall these spurts of good play were few and far between and often interrupted by questionable penalties.
I expected to be impressed with the luverne goaltending. I really wasnt. Ken-doll, You have a glove on your hand for a reason bro, stop pucks with it.
Marshall was on their heels most of the night. Luverne wanted it more and came out harder no question. Compounded with questionable officiating.. makes a good outcome for luverne. Luverne played with more heart and thats ultimately what it came down to.
shots were 40 -23 or something. Luverne had alot of powerplay time. Marshall had alot of shots from beyond the blueline due to #7.

Game
Section 3A Scores
Luverne knocks off Marshall 5 to 2
Fairmont takes care of Mankato East 5 to 1
Morris Benson beats Redwood Valley 7 to 4
New Ulm routs Dodge County 9 to 2
Hutch Upsets Orono 5 to 4
LDC get embarrassed by Mound Westonka 13 to 3...... Ouch
Well another weird night of scores. This Section is crazy right now anyone can win on a given night it seems based on the effort given.
One night wont define a season but there are turning points in every season. How Marshall responds against Hutchinson will be big!

Nice to see Hutch come away with a huge win!! Orono is in the top 20 in a lot of polls for single A. Playing and beating teams like this is only going to help Hutch make another run at state. I think this will be some nice momentum for thursdays rematch against Marshall. But I was just looking at Hutchs stats and seen the leading scorer has 10 points? I understand they play a tough schedule but I figured their key guys to put up some bigger points this year.
Now onto Marshall. Well it shows not to talk yourself up on here. It hasnt worked out to well for the prior teams that have(luverne, redwood). But im here to back you up. Luverne has always played you tough. Eventually your going to lose one. Your last 5 meetings your record against them is 4-1. Its hard to beat a team 5 times in a row when there goal for the season is just to beat you once. I agree bettman that luverne is not a top 4 team but they can catch you off gaurd if your not ready to play.
About the Litch/Mound game tonight.. 13-3? May I ask what happend? Need to bounce back against new ulm on thursday.
New Ulm trounces Dodge County 9-2. Have a big game against Litch on thursday. I think if they win big and Marshall loses to hutch, the eagles become the number one team for the time being.
Predictions for Thursday:
Hutch 3 Marshall 2
New Ulm 5 Litch/DC 2

Litch needs to figure things out fast our they could be in for a long 2nd half of the year in the Wright County Conference.... The game vs. Hutch is Huge for the DragonsBettman's Bender wrote:Litch seems to be heading in the wrong direction. Destined for the 4 seed it seems.
Marshall - 3
Hutch - 4
Good game. Little bit of everything.
Faceoffs may have been the difference in the game for Hutch, it came down to small things. Hutch probably won 75%... or likely more.....
Section 3A Scores
Hutch tops Marshall 4 to 3
New Ulm cruises past LDC 7 to 2
Windom pounds Redwood Valley 8 to 3
Luverne eases past Worthington 9 to 2
Things are starting to get more interesting Will see some big shakeups in the weeks Section 3A Power Rankings once the dust finally settles on Sunday Evening!
Good game yes. It wasn't as close as the score showed. The Hutch goalie had a big issue of trying to stop the puck in the first period. Marshall put some nice pressure on at the end of game but wasn't able to get a shot.Bettman's Bender wrote:Litch seems to be heading in the wrong direction. Destined for the 4 seed it seems.

Marshall - Hutch
I agree both teams competed hard.
In your opinion who controlled the play the majority of the game?

Re: Marshall - Hutch
Great hockey game for fans to watch! Play was back and forth - some nice plays on the ice, good puck movement. Hutch goalie had a tough time; if Marshall could have put up some quality shots, the game would have been different. Goalie settled down after the first.rbmuskiefishin wrote:I agree both teams competed hard.

Hutch had some nice play from the older Cowger (solid skater - quick and smart), but also bright spot in young Cowger and young Adams. Hutch skated hard - passed well.
I would have to admit that both teams were pretty evenly matched. I thought Hutch came out a little more eager and really needed the win. Marshall surprised me - I thought Hutch would actually dominate a little more. Nice play by defense number 7 and 19; have always been impressed with the skater Campion

This was a quality hockey game to watch and could be a great match up at sections. Hutch has the advantage as they play the stronger schedule during the regular season. A rematch would be another great game at Gustavus

Mr Bender I believe that is your name. I played at a high level and not at Marshall. The chicken reference is from last year. A kid from LDC let a live chicken loose atBettman's Bender wrote:Iranger is a BenderIranger33 wrote:Hutch vs LDC today. Will we see the Chicken make an appearance.
the game.

Don't feel bad that your tigers are going in the tank and your little bro is riding pine.
Is tbat greasy enough for you. Sorry your from Marshall and that town is not a hotbed for hockey. I have relatives from that place and they know nothing aboug the game. I will say it is great that southern minnesota has recognized that hockey is a sport but there are a long way from an elite team.Bettman's Bender wrote:This thread has not been sufficiently greasy as of late.
