must've just been a slow start by Lourdes they ended up beating Providence Academy 7-3 with 7 unanswered goals, Jason Samuelson tallies up 4 goals for the Eagles tonight
How many times does a player need to have a concussion before the parents say your done playing and enough is enough. This kid has had 4. There should never have been a 3rd one. I'm just glad the kid is alive to talk about it. WOW. See article below for details.
I view this as a HUGE win for the Scarlets. To go up north and beat a quality nortern school 5-2 speaks volumes as to how this young team is beginning to mature. I am hoping for another strong effort tonight against Duluth Marshall. This will be hands down the best team the Scarlets have faced all season. If they can come out and skate with the Hilltoppers tonight, they should walk away a better hockey team and help prepare them for Lourdes when they come to Mankato in about 2 weeks.

I'm going to call this one about.....10-1. West will get thrashed. They are nowhere near the level of Marshall.
I agree with you Gretzy that MW is not on the same level as DM. I do think that MW can skate with them to a respectable result and take away some good experience from this game. I think your prediction of 10-1 is ridiculous. I am expecting a solid effort from the Scarlet’s and I am confident they will keep it closer than that.

I don't know if I would call them a "pretty weak team". They are young and inexperienced. They have been playing up and down and are very inconsistant, which is part of the growing process. They do have some holes just like most teams do. One of the biggest problems they have is playing teams with equal abilites. The skill level of their competition varies so much. They play their cross town rival who can only muster something like 9 shots on west(just one example), now they play a top team in class "A". I don't think anyone on here is saying that they are going to win the state tour., they are a young team with a lot of potential. But to call them "pretty weak" isn't the appropiate label to put on them.
You could not have said it any better. I think I am realistic with my assessment and comments about MW. I do not claim they are an elite team and a state title contender. Like you stated, I do think they have some young talent and have some nice potential. I also think in section 1A they are a contender. Calling them "pretty weak" is ignorant. The appropriate label for the Scarlet’s is:
They are an inexperienced hockey team with some nice young talent. These kids are learning on the job this year and have showed some potential. I predict by the section tourney, they will be a legitimate contender in section 1A.

Duluth Marshall 3
West 0
Superior 3
West 2 in ot
Superior is ranked #2 in Wisconsin, yes I know it is wisconsin. Give them some credit. And this from a "pretty weak" team.
Scarlet Ice, the story of the 1994-95 Mankato West Scarlets hockey team today became the No. 1 selling hockey book released in the past 30 days, according to Amazon.com. The book is No. 13 on hockey books released in the last 90 days. Yesterday, it appeared at No. 74 on the list of all hockey books sold on Amazon.com.
The initial print run was 1,000 copies. A second printing is scheduled for early January by publisher Two Harbors Press of Minneapolis.
Yesterday, a reliable source informed me that head coach Elsa Westmark of Appleton (Wis.) read her team a paragraph of Scarlet Ice before their game with St. Francis (Minn.) in the Schwan Cup tournament in the Twin Cities on Thursday. Appleton beat St. Francis 6-1. When hockey players wearing the same jersey completely buy into each other, hockey teams become a beautiful experience.

In case anyone is interested, Roger Dier the author of the book will be coming to the River Hills Mall in Scheels on January 21 for a signing of the book
Will Lourdes be able to work their way back into the top 10 1A rankings? Not sure if they have their goalies figured out but Neumann played well his last 2 starts, and the guys put up some points in the Kiwanis. I know some of you guys are not big fans of the Kiwanis. But maybe it was a way to get back some confidence.

i think they could crack top 10 again. i watched two games of earlier this season, and goaltending is a bit shaky at times. this team is good, not amazing. i was really impressed with the coaching staff and how all the kids buy into the system, they play really well with each other.

other than the defense and goaltender, most of the squad is the same from the past state tournament trips. Some games that would help their ranking would be their Saturday game v. Duluth Marshall. Also matchups further along their schedule against other good teams like Breck, Blake and Totino Grace could help their ranking pending on their performance of course. I expect Lourdes to make the top 10 again by the end of the season, maybe end the season somewhere in the top 10 as well
The final score was Duluth Marshall 3-0 Mankato West with an EN goal at the buzzer. Maybe it's time to start giving this Scarlet team some credit?

I do NOT see Lourdes cracking the top 10 this year. I have them ranked right about 15. Losing to a weak team like Mankato West will really hurt their ranking.
As I see it, Lourdes will lose to Mankato West on January 10th in Mankato.
