very fun game to watch, Edina goalie played great. he made it look better for the hornets in a game that could have been much closer

I think They have a good thing with Waggoner on the mike and better video. Is it me or are they cleaner and better video?

Not really concerned about that last game for the Eagles. Rau & Co. never even won the Edina game at the holiday classic, I believe the last time EP pulled that one out was when Nate Hanson was around. No real reason for great concern because of that loss.
EP two out of three.

I am pretty sure EP won the Edina game last year at the holiday classic. I may be wrong but I seem to remember them scoring a late goal to win the game.

It was actually Edina who scored a late goal to win last year. Nanne scored in overtime to give them the win.

The same place the Lee Smith bashers went after his teams won two state championships. :)

You may be thinking of the last Conference game vs the Hornets (in February) where Gerdes scored late to win it for the Eagles. The holiday tourney has not been kind to the Eagles the last few years.

If I dare respond, we run the risk of getting this thread closed. I am an avowed Giles basher, eh.

Any one of you guys could coach the talent he gets thrown into his lap. Good for him. Good for the team. Some of the young guys are really stepping up. Hurley, hands down, is the hot shot right now. And Brauer has a big presence.

My criticism is not with Giles' x's and o's of a hockey game. If you read the MSHSL handbook, winning is not to be placed ahead of fairness and honesty. Edina would be just as good, if not better, if Giles kept Peterson, Bakke, Blanek, Dietzler and Dalbec, seniors who earned their opportunity to play for their school. But he didn't. And that is tragic for those players and for the concept of loyalty. Just like the NHL is going through real evolution on a few fronts, perhaps MN high school hockey needs to re-evaluate some of the sacred cow beliefs, like a coach can play team owner, general manager, and coach without any accountability to anyone.

Regardless, this year turns out to be a great opportunity for a group of young Edina guys who should be really tough over the next two years. Good for them and their families and the school. It is too bad some of you believe winning a few games provides any level of justification for Giles' boorish ways.

Blah blah!! Giles has the one position I would never want to have. Can you imagine the difficult decisions to make year and year out. I think he has done a pretty decent job in a tough world these days.

Coulda shoulda woulda. I could have won the lottery last week if I would have picked all the right numbers. Admit it, you want Giles and the Hornets to fail this year. So far, thats not quite going as planned.

All I have ever heard is how nice of a guy he is too.

I have heard rumors that Langevin had a lot to do with the decision to go young and cut the seniors too. I don't recall much of that sort of thing happening in the past before he joined the staff. Don't know if there is any truth to it, or just a rumor.
