Tonight's second game was also a blowout, with Red Wing winning 10-1. No correct scores, but everyone did predict Red Wing would win and adds a point to their totals:

1. ayhfan - 7 (correct scores in both the Warroad/TRF's and Chisago Lakes/BSM games)
2. hockeyfan87 - 6 (no correct scores, but has picked 'em all right except for the Roseville/Edina tie)
Knight7 - 6 (correct score in the Hutchinson/M-W game)
4. hckynut12 - 5
MNHockeyFan - 5
sinbin - 5
D16Dad - 5
capitalpride - 5
9. Five tied with 4 (includes KRACH)
15. Two tied with 3

Two of our three Friday night games are in:

Grand Rapids/Greenway 2, Mound-Westonka 0
North Wright County 6, Roseau 5 (OT)

Only four of this week's sixteen prognosticators predicted the winners of both of these games. And there were five (including me! and KRACH!! ) who didn't get either of them right.

Knight7 and ayhfan are tied for the lead with 8 points. A more detailed listing of our leaders and point totals will be posted once the score for the Hutchinson/Rogers game is posted.

Edit: Just looking at the NWC/Roseau box score. Has to the first time in hockey history that both teams scored in the same second of the last minute to send a game into OT!

Final score from Friday evening:

Rogers 6, Hutchinson 2

A bit of an upset according the LPH rankings but not according to KRACH. Only six (including KRACH) of sixteen predicted Rogers would win this one.

There were no correct scores in last night's games. Here are this week's point leaders heading into our final six games today:

1. ayhfan - 9
2. Knight7 - 8
hockeyfan87 - 8
4. MNHockeyFan - 6
Silent But Deadly - 6
woogieboogiewoogie - 6
mnhockey3535 - 6
capitalpride - 6
Nordic - 6
10. Seven tied with 5

It's a good thing that KRACH got that Hutch/Rogers game right yesterday - else it would be alone in last place!

Hopefully KRACH & QRF will continue to become more accurate with predictions as the season progresses. When HUB originally asked "how soon is KRACH ready;" I replied with "not until around the 1st of the year." Seeing how this pick-em (series) has played-out, I probably should have stuck to that initial guidance!

One thing that will continue to assist KRACH, QRF, or any ranking algorithm is the weak(er) SOS teams getting in some games against strong(er) opponents. We have a number of teams currently ranked in the top 25 overall with weak SOS that makes them very prone to getting knocked down the rankings easily by playing a strong(er) team and losing. I discussed this phenomenon earlier in the post linked below - and the general concern still holds true - although some of the teams mentioned earlier may no longer be in this position due to playing some strong(er) teams since this was initially written:

From today so far, both shutouts:

Lakeville North 5, Apple Valley 0 (from Channel 4 sports segment at 6:00PM)
Thief River Falls 2, North Wright County 0 (Hub)

No correct scores in either of these.

There are still four games to be played and/or posted - check back later for another update or two.

Knight7 and ayhfan are currently tied for the lead, each with 10 points, and hockeyfan87 is just a point back, with 9.

Scores are S- L - O - W - L - Y rolling in tonight...we now have two more including one shocker:

Wayzata 1, Eden Prairie 2
Edina 2, Hopkins 2

Nobody saw the Edina/Hopkins tie coming and therefore no points were awarded in that one. And only 3 of 16 thought EP would upend the Trojans. One of the three - FlyingWarrior - got the score right and picked up the bonus point.

Neither of these games affected the top of the leaderboard as Knight7, ayhfan and hockeyfan87 were all shut out in these two games. So it will come down to the Orono/Hutchinson and WBL/Mounds View games to determine who wins this week.

All scores APPEAR to be in and final, but I hesitate to say "final final" because of previous errors made on the minnesota-scores.net site. It is showing Edina beating Hopkins 2-1 but the MSHSL site is showing a 2-2 tie, and it does show Hopkins' Maliya Rodgers scoring two goals. So I'm assuming that the tie is correct, along with all the other results being reported late Saturday night, which includes another shocker:

Saturday, December 17
#5AA Edina 2, #18AA Hopkins 2 (OT Tie)
#12AA Lakeville North 5, #17AA Apple Valley 0
#16AA Wayzata 1, #20AA Eden Prairie 2
#5A Thief River Falls 2, (NR) North Wright County 0
#7A Orono 8, #11A Hutchinson 0
#10AA White Bear Lake 1, (NR) Mounds View 4  (only 2 of 16 predicted a MV win!)

So here is our "tentative" standings which will be confirmed once all the box scores are posted either on the Hub or the Minneapolis paper.

Congrats (I think!) to this week's winner, ayhfan!

1. ayhfan - 11

2. Knight7 - 10
hockeyfan87 - 10

4. FlyingWarrior - 9
hckynut12 - 9
MNHockeyFan - 9
capitalpride - 9
Otter - 9

9. sinbin - 8
D16Dad - 8
KRACH - 8

12. Five tied with 7

Look for a Week 6 thread to be posted tomorrow.

All of the scores in the post above are now confirmed. All but the Orono/Hutchinson score are shown in the Strib paper this morning, and the box score for the Orono/Hutchinson game is shown on the Hub.

So again, congrats to ayhfan for finishing No. 1 in this week's contest.
