Lets just say there is a group in the pipeline who are likely to have there voices heard. It will be either another mass exodus or a coaching change. The last group three years ago just bailed. It should make for an interesting next few years.

Feel better about playing well when the other team is up by four, but still failing to do more than score a single goal with possibly the state's best player. Those kinds of moral victories are what makes teams fall flat year after year in the state's weakest section. If the team shares your attitude ( I truly hope they don't because I have no problem with Lakeville South) they'll be a two and out team if they do reach state. Hopefully they 'll ignore your advice and actually expect more out of themselves than tying a rebuilding team over the course of 30 minutes or so. As for dumb, I'll put my academic and professional success over the past 51 years against your's sight unseen. You seem like the type of person who can't argue his point effectively so he has to resort to name calling from within the anonymous safety of the internet. Disagree with me and others with reasoned argument, and avoid the hysteria.

I agree 100%, a winning team need not "justify" a win.. but that is exactly what you did. When I simply argued the undeniable fact that the game was much closer after the 1st period (LS outshot Edina the last 2 periods) and after they got their shakey goalie, that gave up 5 goals on 24 shots, out of the nets it actually was a pretty even game. The reason I say dumb is because I question and highly doubt your logic that the only reason the game was much more even after the 1st period was because Edina "stopped skating" and was "coasting" as if they stopped trying after the 1st period which is just ridiculous. You even went as far as comparing it to being up 10-1 on Kennedy in the 3rd period.. Really? As I have stated before, Edina deserved to win the game, no doubt about it.. They played 3 periods while LS played 2 and they took advantage of their oppurtunities and shaky goaltending. All I was arguing is you can't write off a team because they had a bad 1st period of their 1st game of the year (and yes, having 4 games of experience is an advantage). I apologize for the dumb comment, that was out of line, I just thought your explanation is far fetched. At any rate, I think its time to drop this whole thing and see how the season plays out.. Maybe if we are lucky we can see a rematch at state and see how it plays out then
Fair enough. I would be thrilled to see both Edina and Lakeville South meet at state, Loved what the Cougars did against Eagan (by the way, I live in Eagan, not Edina). I love Kloos and would love to see him at state, and think that if they can get things together they may compete for the conference. Edina will need to put everything together to get past Burnsville in regions, but if they do it would be an honor for them to face Lakeville again--no doubt in the semifinals. My comment about coasting is based on watching Edina since 1977--they tend to sit back and play defense with a lead, and save their energy for if and when the game gets close. Annoying for their fans but who can argue with the results? They don't win every game but rarely lose when they lead by two or three goals. As for Lakeville, if their goaltending solidifies they may just be a state finalist.

Rich,
Just curious. What did you 'Love' about the Cougars 4-3 loss to Eagan? They were outshot 38-13! Moral victory to keep it close?

Lakeville, sheesh!! How did they ever get so many experts in one place??? It isn't the coaches people! Look in the mirror.

Keep, good point. With the number of players that have left the last few years, you would only think what will happen if South does not win a game at State, let alone make it. Looking at this year's PW South team, there should be some good players coming up.

Rich,

Was at the LS Eagan game. LS was outplayed in EVERY facet of the game. If it wasn't for their goaltending, the score would have been a lot worse. Eagan has 3 lines that can all play and 4 solid d-men. Very impressed with the Zajac line. If it wasn't for Kloos, I think LS would have a hard time beating anyone. They are very poorly coached and make absolutely ZERO adjustments during the course of a game. At the end of the 2nd with the faceoff to the right of the Eagan goalie Zajac (who won nearly every faceoff vs Kloos) won it back to Eagan D and LS weak side d-man had been sagging down low on every faceoff allowed Eagan forward to get behind him and if it there would have been 3 more secs on the clock would have had an easy breakaway. LS coaches just stand there. I feel bad for Kloos, you can see the kid clearly wants to win more than anything, but by the time the 3rd period rolls around, he is so gassed from going every other shift all game he can barely move his feet. I predict a long season for LS, and no way will they compete for the South Suburban. Eagan and Burnsville are much more COMPLETE teams.

I was at that game too, and agree with most of above except goaltending - South's goaltending was much better. Frosh goalie for Eagan was pretty out of his element - he will be fine, as he is a Lindgren and it was his first varsity start - but South goalie did much better. Kloos was out there most of the game, and he was gassed at the end. Don't think South should be written off quite yet... Could have been more of a blow out with Eagan's senior goalie...

Pretty accurate Sats, don't feel bad for Kloos though, he chose to stay and now must learn to deal with cards he's been dealt.

Right on cooper, people in Lakeville have been blaming the coaches for far too long and not looking at the mediocre players (for the most part). South has only been a school since '05 and their 1st year they were 2-25(no seniors).. their 3rd year they made it to state and the last 2 years they have a combined record 35-19-2 and would of made state both years if not for Lindgren from North. Kids from Lakeville leave because they think they are bigger and better than HS hockey but few have made it D1 and none to the NHL

 It would serve no purpose to respond to that sort of statement in any depth. "Wow." will have to suffice.

Agree...I have watched the coaching staff over use (work) the top players for some time. By the end of each year, these players have nothing left. The last two years are good examples. At section finals, these kids could not even move at the end of the game. I know North had a very good goalie, but a player only can skate so long. A lack of recovery time equals a lack of performance.

I'm obviously not Cooper and am guessing here, but I'm willing to bet that by "wow" he meant something like "wow, why in God's name are you writing something that makes it sound like you think Kloos did something wrong?" Saying he must learn to deal with the "cards he's been dealt" makes it sound like you think he somehow deserves to struggle because he had the gall to think staying home and playing with his lifelong friends in an attempt to reach the state tournament sounded better than spending his senior year in Waterloo.

I was afraid it might be taken that way, sometimes the written word misses the authors intent. I applaud Justin for staying, the easier choice would likely have been to leave! My point was that he will need to stay positive and not let the teams success of failure change the way he plays or the effort he puts forth. Hey I'm old school, I wish more of our kids would stick around but thats just not a reality anymore. In the bigger picture I'll bet he'll always be glad he stayed with his friends.

Fair enough - nothing to argue with when you state it that way (which I thought might have been what you meant initially).

I think everybody would agree Kloos would be playing with and against better players if he were in Waterloo. What has gone unspoken in most of the threads I've seen about staying vs. leaving HS hockey are the hockey benefits of staying in HS. For example, in Waterloo he probably wouldn't have been looked to for a huge leadership role. Obviously, he will be in HS. He will have the opportunity to lead, motivate and help build a "team". In Waterloo, with the depth in the league I don't think he would be learning how to create chances and contribute offensively while there were 2 or 3 guys shadowing him all game. He would certainly have been faced with other challenges moving up a level if he'd left, but I think to assume he's gaining nothing by staying in HS is just flat inaccurate. In any event, no matter how LS fares this year, I think Kloos will do just fine.

Given what Edina has done the last couple weeks, maybe south isn't as big a mess as we thought.

Yeah. Kloos is literally a 1 man wrecking machine. LS will go as far as he can take them.

I disagree, based on what I saw last night, the whole LS team was a wrecking machine. They flat out dominated WBL in every aspect of the game.

You are correct. Kloos is a phenom, not a doubt, but there is plenty of talent spread around that team. Their defense held WBL to 7 shots from the outside last night. (but somehow they don't even make "Happy's" "teams to watch list")?!

There is a faction on this board intent upon blaming everything bad that happens in Lakeville on the hockey coaches. If LS experiences some success this year it doesn't serve their agenda to say it's anything other than Justin who is responsible. In the meantime they work on tearing down his teammates and the efforts of the coaches they're lucky to have.

Justin = a joy to watch and, from what I hear, a good kid and captain. I'm glad he made the decision to stay in High School. It will be fun to watch the Gophers in a couple of years! The rest of Lakeville South includes a lot of solid talent that also chose to stay with their HS team and play with their friends (and, yes, several others had options). Justin and his team are lucky to have each other.

They may not have Edina's goaltending or Eagan's depth, but South will be in the mix at the end of the season and able to ruin most anyone's party. I think we should just enjoy the season watching ALL these kids leaving their best efforts on the ice.

LS will clearly go as far as Kloos takes them. You can't even begin to disagree with that. If he gets hurt, they are done. In the Edina and Eagan games, by the time the 3rd period rolled around he was ineffective as a result of being shadowed nearly the entire game and going every other shift the majority of the first 2 periods. Cooper-who do they have other than Alex Harvey (who is really just a beneficiary of being Kloos' linemate since Squirts)?

Harvey puts up numbers but wouldn't put up half of what he does without Kloos. I agree they played a solid game last night, but I just don't see this team doing damage against Top 5 teams like DE, Tonka, BSM, Eagan, etc. Maybe I will eat my words come March, but this is a group who historically hasn't even closed out their section to get to the X anyway...

Are they a really deap team, no. They do have more than just Kloos though. If you've watched the games since Edina you could make an arguement that #6, Joe Freemark, has been every bit as good. He has been the best defensemen in every game.

As far as a history of failing, that is not real accurate either. This years seniors have had there fair share of winning big games growing up. Anything could happen and they may notmake it out of sections but as I've stated earlier, this is the most skilled team they have ever put on the ice.
