2011 Schwan Cup

Post by MNHockeyFan »

The brackets are now set for the Schwan Cup which runs December 28-30.

In the Blue Division, Benilde-St. Margaret's and Breck could again do battle, as they did in the Edina Thanksgiving Tournament, for the Championship trophy.

Why in the world would they have conference foes match up in an opening round game (Breck & St. Paul United)? Are the tourney officials just not paying attention?

When I would see this type of thing occasionally in youth/girls tournaments, that was usually the case. It used to drive me nuts...and I guess it still does.

Some teams will arrange this sort of thing ahead of time and count it as one of their conf games. I'm guessing this was NOT the case here.

No, not the case here. They will still play each other 2 other times for a total of 3 games this season. (Thankfully they're not in the same section or that could've been another potential game!)

Unfortunate... Maybe they could count this as one of their conf games and pick up another in place of one of their regularly scheduled conf games...

That's what I would do - or complain to the SR - as the coach, I mean.

There have to be some teams looking for games at this point with Richfield dropping late, etc.
