Edina will be fine this year. They will get Masty back and he can fly on the ice. If they lose Jungles to BSM that might be a wash. The other injury is a first year player who is very talented and will help, he won't be back for a while and then has to get up to speed with the rest of the team. They have plenty of talent on the team though, even without Walker and Malquist, however losing that high end talent hurts. Those 2 would have been the best players on the ice in just about any situation. All these kids have been winning hockey games their whole lives and will win plenty of games this year as well. They will be there down the stretch but D6 is always a tough one to get out of. I have coached most of the kids on that team and hope nothing but success for them, except when they play 1 other team in the state.

They have a target on their back from all the success they have had as a group and also because the name on the front of the jersey is Edina.

It's interesting that varsity positions are guaranteed to 9th graders before a tryout. Would Giles admit to guaranteeing spots without a tryout? My guess is he wouldn't admit that but I can't imagine the players skipping bantam tryouts unless they had been offered that guarantee. Maybe the parents can tell us? Seniors trying to earn a spot like to try and squish 9th graders during tryouts.

Does anyone know of top teams that could possibly lose their top player or two to high school? Tryouts are starting very soon, and that could definitely shake things up a bit.

Most likely a one sided negotiation. Parents let HS coach know they are considering options (bsm, ssm, breck) and want to know the coaches thoughts. Coach can say come here and play or take a chance and lose the kid to another program.

Sometimes it is obvious the player will make varsity so the high school coach may decide on numerous factors: Dont disrupt the bantam team by playing top line for 1 month then leaving. Let them begin the season with the guys they will go to battle with down the stretch. Another maybe get out and get with the high school team right away, ala captains practice.

Prior Lake 8
Lakeville North 3

Lakers now with just 1 loss through 8 games this season, undefeated in last 7 outings and rattled off 3 dominant wins including 7-1 win over Tonka, 7-5 over Rosemount and now 8-3 over Lakeville. All this is after losing their top scorer from this age group to Shattuck ... Lakers lookin good!

Blaze now with just 2 wins through 8 outings, but the thing is ... they seem to really play to the level of their opponent. At the high end of the spectrum they beat Edina and tied Wayzata. At the lowe end they tie Hopkins, Duluth, Centennial and lose to Woodbury. In the middle they tie Sibley. Doesn't seem to matter who the opponent is, Burnsville is delivering a compeitive game regardless. Are they over-achieving vs the top end teams or are they under-achieving vs teams not considered so much top end?

Edina 7
Chaska 0

Hornets finally stopped the bleeding after going winless in 3 games dating all back to their 4-1 win over East at the Centennial Preview. Since that game they lost to Stillwater (5-2), Burnsville (4-3) and left things unsettled with a 2-2 OT score against Duluth. Granted, Chaska is probably not a top 25 team, but any win for the Hornets is welcome right now and a big 7-0 shutout is always good for the boys confidence.

Minnetonka 6
Orono 1

This win gets the Skippers back to .500. Now let's see if they can do something they haven't done all year ... win 2 games in a row ...

Armstrong Cooper 2
Crow River 2

This is a league game for both teams. The Falcons are quietly putting together a nice season, undefeated now through 5 games. However, they haven't been truly tested yet, with wins over Kennedy, Shakopee, Champlin & St. Louis Park. It'll be interesting to see how they hold up on Monday against OMG.

Splitting hairs but Stillwater loss was 3-1.

Blaze record is 4 wins 1 lost 4 ties. 8 1st years, top scorer out for all but last 2 games, and top defensemen out till next week is why you see such inconsistency. They will be battling Edina, EP, and Prior Lake for top spot in d6.

Rosemount - 8
Champlin Park - 2

Rosemount is extremely fast, skilled, and decent size. They look to be a very good team.
