Nice time to resign, 5 weeks before the season. There has to be more to this story.
Life still happens...

"Basically, I have a career opportunity that was presented to me,” Peltoma said, “and I can’t turn it down. It’s just a nice fit, but in taking this career opportunity I’m not going to have the time after school to be at practice, which is probably the most important part, the practices and working with the girls."

This is a tough position to be in. Big real-job career opportunity and the consideration of having to walk-away just prior to the season starting.

Coaches are dedicated people. They need to be realistic though. I handled the same situation by bringing in a co-head coach when I changed jobs just as a season started and realized that I couldn't dedicate the time.

I think many don't realize the time commitment.

Carrie Holldorf named head coach for girls' hockey

St. Paul Academy and Summit School and the Visitation School have hired Carrie Holldorf to coach the two schools' cooperative girls' hockey team. Holldorf comes to the SPA/Visitation United team from Augsburg College, where she served as an assistant coach for the women’s hockey team.

Holldorf was a standout hockey player at St. Cloud State, where she compiled 26 goals and 46 assists for 72 points in 101 games, the 10th-best assist total in school history and the 13th-best point total. Holldorf later played for the Minnesota Whitecaps professional team for three seasons (2005-08 ), serving as a team captain for two years. After earning her bachelor’s degree in marketing from St. Cloud State in 2006, Holldorf served as an assistant coach for the U-16 team at Shattuck-St. Mary’s High School in Faribault, Minn., for three seasons (2007-10), with her teams going 123-21-16 in her three years. The team earned the USA Hockey national tournament title in 2009-10, while finishing as a semifinalist and quarterfinalist the two prior seasons.

“ I am thrilled Carrie has accepted our offer to lead the SPA/Vis United Girls hockey program,” says SPA Director of Athletics Peter Sawkins. “Her playing and coaching experience provide her with tremendous hockey knowledge that will be invaluable and will help elevate the program, and our girls, to new heights.”

“There is tremendous hockey potential within the SPA and Visitation student ranks,” says Mike Brill, Visitation’s Director of Athletics, “and Carrie is the right person to bring out that potential. I am confident the tradition of success that exists around St. Paul United hockey will grow under Carrie’s leadership.”

It isn't clear exactly what led to Mr. Vannelli's resignation, but MSHSL Rules, Bylaw 208 (NON-SCHOOL COMPETITION AND TRAINING) reads in part:

2. During the School Year, Prior To and Following the High School Sports Season:

C. A student may not receive coaching or training from a salaried or non-salaried member of the student’s sophomore, B-squad, junior varsity or varsity high school coaching staff in that sport. Power skating and indoor soccer are included in this limitation.

In fairness, he isn't listed as the coach for the team this year. Two of his CADP employees/former players are.

Gravel or Morris

Awesome! The girls are in good hands. Both excellent coaches.

So sad that they could not find a woman to take over.

I wonder who they will hire to be their recruiting coordinator? Has anybody heard?
