What are select 15's?

Post by HockeyDad41 »

I guess if little HD (6'3" 215) is going to play in the show someday, he's going to have to do well in the select 15's. Problem is I don't know what that is. Since I plan in having him play in the select 15's when he is 10, I need to find out sooner rather than later, so if someone can tell me what it's all about, I'd appreciate it.

Google is your friend. You can nominate little HD by going here:

Better yet, have his coach nominate him, or one of your buddies - someone with a different last name than him.

Advanced 15s (now called Reebok High Performance 15s) is done by youth associations and the Districts. Youth Association coaches nominate players to a District tryout. From there a District team is named and plays in a tournament against the other Districts. The top 105 15s are then selected for a week long camp in St. Cloud. This last spring it was the 1996s so next spring it will involve the 1997s. There is information on the MN Hockey website.

Is it based on full calendar birth year or Minnesota hockey age breakouts?

Does it take the place of summer AAA hockey for kids in that age group? Can little HD get to the next level of hockey if he doesn't get selected for this camp.

No shortage of information if you look under "Youth" and "Player Development Camps" on the USA Hockey website.
Be kind. Rewind.

To review. "Select 15's" was changed to "Advanced 15's". Now called "Super-Duper Really Good 15's brought to you by Reebok"?

Time for "Quadruple A 15's"

Good question because the 97s will have to make different plans next spring. It's very difficult to be involved with spring AAA because the district teams practice a lot through the tournament at the end of April. May is open and then St. Cloud is the week school ends in June. 97 AAA coaches and managers will want to review the schedule before making any spring plans. It's just 15s that have the heavy schedule of maybe 15 practices. The schedule for the 96s and 97s, through their high school section as opposed to youth district, is light in comparison.

The tryout process is grueling.

Not as bad as you'd think. Well... you guys with short little sticks and no curve might think it's grueling I guess.
