I respect teams that play classy...whether they win or lose.

Sad to see that Hutch didn't make it to the big game on Friday. I think they played a good game, but Litch was too much in the end. We had some good scoring chances, and came up big a couple times. Hutch goalie had a solid night in the crease; I don't believe Litch goalie can handle New Ulm, even though I am cheering for Litch. New Ulm has talent, but is the team everyone loves to hate due to their lack of sportsmanship and class.
I saw the last period and a half of the marshall game, and #3 was not a class act one bit. He did make rude gestures to both Marshall and Hutch. Not the kind of person I would want to call my friend. There is a difference between friendly competition and being a complete loser. Why does his name keep coming up...don't see the other trash talkers names.
New Ulm did not bring their best game against Marshall, and had some help from a bad ref.
Hutch returns key players next year and hopefully will make a run. Had some great improvement and good coaching this year
wish Hutch would have had the chance to stone #3 and the entire NU team. I am hoping Litch can find a way to pull off the upset, but Burgau (an actual class act of a player) will be the factor. Not sure Litch has the legs to take it the whole game.

Okay lets get a few things straight! Don't bash NU on sportsmanship alone here people! Did you NOT see what happened with 6 seconds left? Marshall's #7 Campion(who isn't even close to the talent the goal tender was)grabbed/sucker punched a NU player when he was on the bench after the NU player was checked in front of the bench....is that good sportsmanship? NU is not a classy team, I will agree with that. It is too bad that a couple players give the whole team a bad wrap! As for Hutchtostate...Litchfield should have beat your team by 8 goals! Good Coaching? Seriously? At times the tigers looked like Fairmont with all 5 skaters below the bottom of the cirlces! #9 from Litch has to be sore from shooting 20 shots from the blueline! NU won't have the points open like that. NU has to stop a couple players and get shots on a Litch goalie that is very subpar! Burgau is the difference in this one! NU wins 7-2!
Too much offense for Litch! The Eagles have scoring balence on all 3 lines that they skate! Look for an unexpected player to score a big goal in this game! FYI---I predicted these 2 teams in the final! Question--How in the heck did Hutch beat Litch twice during the regular season? Had to be Goaltending! Hutch's goalie left it all out on the ice on Sat., great game kid!
NU still has a bad taste from the officiating in Litch and the goal that was waved off! Any Comments? Oh...I also believe NU #3 lacks class, can be a very good player when he wants to be...Randy Moss type huh?!?!

Who are the key returners?Hutch returns key players next year and hopefully will make a run. Had some great improvement and good coaching this year
You keep talking about the great coaching and improvement. What team are you watching? Coaching is nonexistent at best and flat out horrible most days.
I've been quiet this year for the most part, but I have to agree with gr8. NU has some disrespect from #3 but so do other teams. Grabbing a player from the bench well enough said. I dont like those things happening but they do, hockey has alot of emotion and things happen. I dont think Marshall is a cheap team because of # 7 and I also think that for the most part NU has good players that respect other teams. I guess my point is dont blame the team for one players actions. Now to the game on Fri, Litch played until the end on Sun, Hutch played not to lose or like in Football a prevent defence and we all know how that works!! NU started out real slow and Marshall was flying around the ice, I don't know if they ran out of gas or if NU got better but the game slowly changed in and in ths 2nd NU took over. 3rd per was even. I'm a NU fan but if they dont play hard from the drop of the puck Litch will win.
NU 4 Litch 2
NU 4 Litch 2

Section 3A Next Year
Greetings Section 3A Followers,
Well we have begun the offseason portion of the year.
First of congratulations to New Ulm for repeating as Section 3A Champions. Even though the state tournament did not go as hoped again for the Eagles still had a fabulous year. They will have a big target on their backs next year.
If you have not heard the new section realignments came out and Section 3A will stay the same. Now you will hear a lot of grumblings about this however, there are two reasons why the MSHSL did the right thing:
a.) It’s a state Tournament people not a metro classic. Sections are based on geography people... Look Below it splits up nicely....
Sections Since 2008
Section 1A represents Southeast MN.
State Teams (Mankato West, Rochester Lourdes x3)
Section 2A represents West Metro MN
State Teams (Blake, Breck x3)
Section 3A represents Southwest MN.
State Teams (LDC, Hutchinson, New Ulm x2)
Section 4A represents East Metro MN
State Teams (Mahtomedi x2, STA x2)
Section 5A represents Central East MN
State Teams (SCC x2, Hermantown x2)
Section 6A represents Central West MN
State Teams (Little Falls x2, Alexandria x2)
Section 7A represents North East MN
State Teams (Duluth Marshall, Virginia x2, Hibbing)
Section 8A represents North West MN
State Teams (Warroad x3, TRF)
b.) Class “A” hockey was intended to grow small community hockey like the New Ulm’s of the world. It’s too bad we have East and West Metro All-Star teams. For small communities like everyone in Section 3A it’s tough to compete with that.
Now having said that we know the teams in contention for the next 2 years and here is my best guess as we move into the off-season looking at next year.
Section 3A 2011-2012 Rankings
1. Hutchinson
2. New Ulm
3. LDC
4. Luverne
5. Marshall
6. Windom
7. Redwood Valley
8. Fairmont
9. Sleepy Eye
10. Worhtington
Hutchinson
2010-2011 Record: 10-15-1
Key Returners: Trace Adams 24pts, Tyler Ellefson 22 pts., Cody Nielsen 17pts., Max Crowder 11 pts.
Hutchinson was a young hockey club this year. They return a lot of key pieces they should be the favorite as we head into the next season. They return the majority of their scoring. They will need to score a lot. They return 5 of their 6 top forwards. Look for hutch to be very dangerous next year.
Key Losses: Jordan Johnson & Logan Hahn
Hutchinson’s biggest weakness will be replacing a goaltender. They will have to find someone new next year. Also, they will have to replace the physical side of Logan Hahn. If they Tigers can find solid goaltending they should be solid.
Youth Prospects: A Bantam 16-24-0. They had a decent A Bantam losing their star player Adams to the High School team didn’t help. Should have some nice players coming up.
New Ulm
2010-2011 Record: 21-6-2
Key Returners: Brody Peterson 46 pts., Jeff Banal 20pts., Dylan Schreckenberg 25 pts.
The Eagles will lose a lot of firepower. They lose 4 of their 5 members of their power play. They lose 2/3 of their top line both their top defenseman. However, they return their best player in Peterson he will be the top player in this Section next year. Don’t count the eagles out yet. This group has been to two straight state tournaments that experience will be key come playoff time.
Key Losses: Blake Burgau, Kaleb Juntenen, Adam Loose, Zach Hoffman, Aaron Pfaff, The Traulich Twins.
New Ulm losses a ton 3 key defenseman. 2/3 of their top line. A key member of their 2nd and 3rd lines. But no loss is bigger then Burgau how do you replace a kid who has played every minute the last 3 years. New Ulm will have lots of new faces to try and fill voids for next season.
Youth Prospects: A Bantam 12-25-0. Their A Bantam team finished in the bottom of District 9. Lost to Luverne 3 times, Split with Hutchinson and beat LDC in their only meeting. Saw this group play a few times not a ton of talent coming up but playing A hockey will make them better. If I were a betting man I would saw their A Bantam tender will step in to play goal next year for the Eagles.
LDC
2010-2011 Record: 16-11-1
Key Returners: Max Hyberger 22 pts., John Raisanen 21 pts., Aaron Haataja 20pts.
The Dragons will return plenty of fire power up front. They have some good hardworking kids that can bury pucks. No matter what The Dragons will be tough to beat come playoff time.
Key Losses: Quinn Impola, Andy Haatja, Logan Benda, Eric Kivisto
The Dragons lose 2/3 of their top line. They also lose the majority of their D-core and they will have to break in a new net minder. However, losing Impola is a huge blow to this team he was the team at times. It will be interesting too see what the Dragons will look like next year especially in the D-zone where they had been so strong in the past.
Youth Prospects: A Bantam 2-20-4. Not a ton of talent coming up were swept by Hutchinson and lost to New Ulm. Still playing A hockey will make them better in the long run. Not a ton of talent coming up however.
Luverne
2010-2011 Record: 17-8-0
Key Returners: Skyler Wenninger 36pts, Jonny Solma 33 pts., Cody Christensen 30 pts. Austin Maxwell 23 pts. Kendall Meyer (7-7-0)
The Cardinals will look to build on last seasons success. They return 2 of their 3 lines including two sophomores who put up more then 30pts. They also return arguably their best player in sophomore defenseman Austin Maxwell who had 23 pts as a sophomore blue liner is impressive. Most importantly they return Kendall Meyer he is one of only 2 goaltenders returning in this Section that is huge and the biggest plus if your cards fan he is just a Sophomore. These Guys are still young.
Key Losses: Connor Fitzer, Skyler Swier, Zach Dingmann
The Cardinals lose a lot of scoring from their first line. Fitzer was an All-state honorable mention player. Replacing 64 pts is not going to be easy. Swier and Dingmann also put up plus 30 pt season’s. these 3 will not be replaced easily.
Youth Prospects: A Bantam team 17-21-0. Played without Meyer and Frankenhoff and still put up a decent year. They finished right in the Middle of District 9 they were the Only A Bantam team in Section 3A to qualify for Regions. There is some talent coming up.
Marshall
2010-2011 Record: 16-6-3
Key Returners: Bryce Peterson 21 pts., Beau Mikel 18 pts. Mitch Campion 13 pts.
The Tigers will return Peterson and Mikel both very capabale of putting the puck in the net. They also return Campion and Buysse on the blueline I like both of these players a lot. The Tigers need to find depth but they still will have a good amount of front line players.
Key Losses: 13 seniors
Anytime a team loses more then 10 seniors its big hit. The Tigers will miss this class of seniors next year they wont have nearly the depth they have had in the past. Also they have to replace Noble who was huge for these guys this year. They need to find some 2nd line and 3rd line forwards a few d and Goaltender not counting the Tigers out at all just lot of pieces to have to replace.
Youth Prospects: B Bantam Won the District 4 “B” League and took second in playoffs losing 7 to 2 to Windom…. Played Luverne A’s once lost 9-0 so Marshall is really in a win now mood. The youth coming up just isn’t what it has been. They will have a few pieces but nothing that outstanding.
Windom
2010-2011 Record: 4-18-0
Key Returners: Adam Eisenmenger 43 pts. Mitchell Baumhoefner 31 pts.
Windom only loses 2 seniors they will returnt he majority of their team. They will alsp have the threat of their top end players. If they can play tough in their D end they will be tough too beat.
Key Losses: Justin Cook and Cal Pell
They lose their third leading scorer and their goaltender both will not be easily replaced but are not difficult to do.
Youth Prospects: B Bantam took 2nd in the District “B” League but beat Marshall in the playoffs…. Played Luverne “A” team twice lost 13-2 and 13-3… What I am saying is they have a few kids coming up who can play but overall not a ton of talent.
Redwood Valley
2010-2011 Record: 10-14-2
Key Returners: Colin Bailey 24 pts. Austin Kretch 22 pts. Jordan Skeie 19 pts, Mike Welch 17 pts
Return a lot of scoring depth. This Senior to be group of players at redwood should be decent. They just don’t have any depth after that. But they do return their tender in Parker Revier which is big for them.
Key Losses: Eric Hanson and Daniel Svensson
Both of their big time scorers in Hanson and Svensson graduate. Hanson will be sorley missed the kid did a lot for this team and Program. Took them too new heights just could never get over that hump come playoff time.
Youth Prospects: No Bantam team and their JV was Brutal not much coming up some rough years ahead for Redwood.
Farimont
2010-2011 Record: 6-16-0
Key Returners: Jacob Lemon 14 pts & Ross Wilken 13 pts
These guys will have to do a lot for this team next year. Not a whole lot coming back.
Key Losses: 8 Seniors
They lose 8 seniors most importantly Kolton Dilly who was a key factor for the cards. They will also lose 4 valuable defenseman, which will hurt Fairmont as well.
Youth Prospects: B Bantam team finished in the middle of the pack in District 4. Have some ok players but nothing too special coming up.
Sleepy Eye
2010-2011 Record: 12-15-0
Key Returners: Mitch Neid 11 pts Tanner Weiss 10 pts
Sleepy eye has a ton of things they need to replace. Great season this year but next year looks like it could be a challenging one.
Key Losses: 12 Seniors
They lose a lot and none more important then Robert Regan. Big pads to fill for that kid.
Youth Prospects: B Bantam team finished in the middle of the pack. Nothing to special but some decent players.
Worthington
2010-2011Record: 0-19
Will be another tough year for the Trojans……
Youth Prospects: B Bantam team placed last in District 4 MN things continue to look bleak in Trojan country…..
Well there are my thoughts any other 3A guys wanna take a crack at it before we head into the summer??

Section 3A HockeyScout...thanks for all the insight this season. Really enjoyed your posts. Looked forward to it each Monday.
Also..great job New Ulm.
One correction on Hutch. Jake McLain will be graduating this year. Hutch will loose 3 of 4 defensmen. Top two forward lines will have 5 of 6 returning. They may score more, but they will have too, to win games.
Can't wait till next year.

surprised to see that new ulm doesnt have anyone on the great 8 team.
looked in on the xposure tournement last weekend burgau, peterson, and banal from new ulm, eisenmenger and baumhoefner from windom all played on the same team. the last team they played would have had noble from marshall in the net but he didn't make it.
This is a good opportunity for outstate players to mix it up with the rest of Minnesota, also makes a good tuneup for advanced tryouts or the great 8 profile. it is a little spendy

It is summer everyone knows this doesn't tell you much. Kids are so busy doing other things you cant get a true read on things.
From what I heard Mankato West, Luverne and Marshall were above the others. If that tells you anything???
Should be an interesting year as always in 3A. You have your top 3 as always (New Ulm, LDC, Hutch). Then Marshall & Luverne trying to crash the party. Maybe Windom with there top line returning and a New Coach will be a dark horse. Never know.
Cant wait for Hockey season again! Luverne had Summer Ice this year for the first time ever and it has made my hunger for hockey season even stronger!
November cant come soon enough!!

the paper said
"During its meeting Thursday, the District 88 Board of Education approved a boys hockey cooperative agreement for 2011-12.The action in effect added Sleepy Eye Public, Sleepy Eye St. Mary's and Springfield Public Schools to a group of already cooperating schools - New Ulm Public, Cathedral and Minnesota Valley Lutheran High Schools."
its for a year after which they said it would be revisited. It'll probably work out well for both groups
