Well that sure got an enthusiastic reaction.

Say what you will about Jeter (I have my criticisms--no way do I think he should be batting leadoff this year), but he has a great sense of theater. He's not having a very good year, but I sure wasn't shocked to see him go 5-for-5 with a homer for hit #3,000 and a go-ahead hit in the 8th inning in that game.

Halfway through baseball season, which means we're about halfway to hockey season...

Although by no means am I a Jeter fan nor a Yankee fan; 3000 hits is a great accomplishment. Congrats.

Savor it, Karl. That's the only compliment you'll get out of me about the Yanks.

But in other news that interests me, A Hole, oops, I meant A Rod has an injured knee and is debating getting surgery or taking things easy for the next few weeks. Looks like those steroid side effects are setting in.

And in Tiger news, Tiger Woods is holding a press conference Monday morning to make an undisclosed announcement. I suspect he will be announcing he will be opting out of the remainder of the season to rehab his knee. Tiger has had 4 surgeries on the same knee in the past; the most recent was after his DNF in the first round of the PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP. Many others are also speculating the press conference.relates to the indictment of his doctor from Canada (forgot his name). Tiger's physician is suspected of trafficking illegal steroids and performance enhancing supplements across the boarder to other sports athletes and providing those substances as well. Some also have an idea that he is announcing his retirement... doubtful. And if he did "retire," I would guarantee he would make several comebacks. Should be interesting to see what happens...

I'm about to disappear into the Boundary Waters for a few days.

Kinda curious to see what sorts of crises occur on the board while I'm gone...

It's even hot along Lake Superior today. Of course, it's still nothing compared to what you Metro people are experiencing.

92.9 at the house in Proctor right now.

I think my bike ride is off for tonight. See, I'd have to tell my cardio therapist about it, and she'd hit the roof. :) Tomorrow looks much better.

 Yeah, last night was a great night for sitting around and watching old hockey games, but not much else.

While the rest of the country boils, we're back to normal Duluth summer days here. This city does get a few things right.

What do you clowns think of the new Jets logo?

In my opinion, they shouldn't have changed it.

I don't know if the Jets were allowed to keep the old logo, as the National Hockey League owns that image for marketing purposes. I do like the new logo though. Obviously, nothing will compare to the classic, but it's refreshing and IMHO very well done.

The jet superimposed on the maple leaf is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure how much I like it. I do kinda like the one with the maple leaf and the wings.

If you had bought $1000 of shares in Delta one year ago, you would have $49 today!
If you had bought $1000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you would have $33 today.
If you had bought $1000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you would have $0 today.
But, if you had bought $1000 worth of beer one year ago, drank it all, then turned in your cans for a recycling refund, you would have $214!
Based on the above, the best plan is to drink heavily and recycle!
It is called the 401-Keg!
