I'm dating myself and my brother here, but I can tell you for sure the periods went from 12 to 15 minutes sometime between 1967 and 1974. The other crazy rule that was still in effect back then was you were only allowed to check in your defensive zone (behind your own blue line).
I wasn't aware people from the south cared much about hockey.

Hey now, our former Pres resembles....ummm, I mean....resents that remark!
How about Moorhead 2007? Handled Ness and Roseau easily twice during the regular season, then some guy named Lee shuts them out in the section finals. With all of the other upsets that took place before and at the state tourney that year, it surely would have been Moorhead's year to break whatever curse is on that program and finally get that title.

I see there is some holy angels teams posted already but the 03 team had a disapointing finish. After winning in 02. the team had about 8 guys go division 1. 2 of them are playing in the NHL right now some in semi pro hockey. we finished 3rd at state so maybe not a huge disapointment but had a championship as a goal. ranked #1 from the start of the season and held it all year long until losing to eventual state champs anoka.
oh well now it is just a story from the glory years of high school hockey. Watching a team fall that had high expectations is part of the fun, right.

Wasn't EGF rated up there that year? Like 2nd or 4th?
I thought it was the year that EGF would finally win the big one.
They had it all including a great goallie.
But in the first round game they had the lead, in the 3rd period, by 2 goals over Jefferson.
The Jaguars got a freak goal that trickled in from the corner and that was it. They lost the game and then lost the next game and that was it.
Much fun here. I just scrolled through this thing and there was no mention of a Columbia Heights team in the mid to late 80s. Tom Palkowski, Tom and Billy Peterson, DJ Haller, his older brother, (Lou Nanne loved him), Dave Olsen and a goalie named Reggie. I think they won the state title in Peewees, bantams and then fell apart in high school. I think Palkowski broke his leg. The older Haller broke his arm or had a shoulder issue and they still won consolation. Maybe wrong there. But surely a good team that fell short.
Bill, the Reggie Miracle team is often mentioned in the threads about the biggest upsets in the state tournament. It was early 80s, 1983. South St. Paul upset Edina West in 1981 and the Hornets were champs in 1982 and 1984 as well as being one of the favorites (with Hill-Murray probably) in 1983.

No doubt HM was a favorite.
In 1983, they went undefeated in the regular season before becoming state champs.
I could have sworn it was a tighter game than that.
