Appropriate age to leave your child with a billet host

We definitely don't want to hold kids back. At what age do you think it is appropriate to have your son (or daughter) leave home to live several states away in order to purse the dream of making it to higher-level hockey?

16 at the earliest IMHO. But I guess it's up to everyone to decide what is right for them. Glad we live in a state that is good enough at hockey that we don't have to worry about doing that. I know that is not the case for you down south

I just heard of three 1st year Bantams (12 or 13) that are off to Detroit. Sounds awfully young to me.

Just talked to the Parent of a MN Outstate skater who's sent his 10 year old to Mpls. (to live with a Host Family) for the Summer in order to make all of the practices leading up to a very prestigious Squirt Tourney.
